'The Southeast Asian nations are special for their incredible diversity, each with its unique language, unique culture, unique traditions with different ethnic backgrounds and religions,' she noted. Representing the current ASEAN Chair, Dr Duc Thang Nguyen, Ambassador of Vietnam to Kuwait, highlighted Southeast Asia's strong post-pandemic recovery in the tourism sector: 'In 2024, the region welcomed almost 122 million international visitors. Thailand remained the top destination with 35.5 million visitors. Malaysia followed with 25 million. And Vietnam continued its growth trajectory, welcoming more than 18 million international tourists'.
He also stressed that Southeast Asia's tourist attraction has come from its cultural diversity, wide range of traveling experiences, the people's hospitality, amazing delicious cuisines, safe and clean environment with breathtaking natural landscapes, a large number of world recognized heritages, so many beautiful beaches and bustling cities.
The evening featured cultural performances by the Indonesian, Myanmar, Filipino and Vietnamese communities, showcasing the unique artistic traditions of the region. Guests also enjoyed different video clips demonstrating the diverse cultures of ASEAN member states, plenty of natural beauty spots and rich culinary arts before indulging in a curated buffet of signature dishes from across the region.
Adding a touch of excitement to the night, the event concluded with a lucky draw, offering valuable prizes contributed by ASEAN embassies in Kuwait. The IWG Executive board was delighted to present each ASEAN member state with a commemorative plaque in appreciation of their outstanding efforts in organizing an exceptional and informative event. This cultural and tourism evening served as not only a celebration of ASEAN to promote the unity and obvious image of the ASEAN community in Kuwait, but also a meaningful platform to strengthen cultural exchange and friendship with the Kuwaiti people.

KUWAIT CITY, Aug 3: According to a report released by AlShall, domestic workers made up 25.2 percent of Kuwait's total expatriate workforce by the end of Q1 2025, totaling about 745,000 workers, which is a 5.6 percent decrease compared to the end of Q1 2024. This workforce includes approximately 415,000 women and 330,000 men, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The report explained that the Philippines led the female domestic workforce with around 131,000 workers, down from about 175,000 at the end of Q1 2024. Male domestic workers from India led the male workforce with approximately 213,000 workers, down from 248,000 at the end of Q1 2024. India leads in the total number of domestic workers of both genders, representing 42.2 percent of the workforce, followed by Sri Lanka and the Philippines, each accounting for about 17.9 percent. Four nationalities - India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, and Bangladesh - account for approximately 89.6 percent of the total domestic workforce, out of a total of ten nationalities. Regarding expatriate labor in general, AlShall reported that the total number of Indian workers is approximately 884,000, representing 29.9 percent of the total labor force, including Kuwaiti workers, and about 35.3 percent of the total expatriate labor force, leading in both categories. Egyptian workers rank second, with around 472,000 workers, accounting for 16 percent of the total labor force and approximately 18.8 percent of the expatriate workforce. They are followed by Kuwaiti workers, numbering about 450,000 compared to 458,000 at the end of Q1 2024, representing 15.2 percent of the total labor force. This percentage may increase if military personnel figures are included in the data. The AlShall report revealed that the total Kuwaiti workforce at the end of the first half of the year amounted to approximately 491,000, a figure that differs from the data provided by the Central Statistical Bureau. It stated, 'We have no explanation for the discrepancy between the two figures unless the higher number includes military personnel and the unemployed'. In addition, Bangladesh ranked fourth with a total workforce of approximately 278,000, representing 9.4 percent of the total labor force. The Philippines ranked fifth with around 194,000 workers, accounting for 6.6 percent of the total workforce and approximately 7.7 percent of the total expatriate workforce.

Kuwait Aviation Authority Chief: New aviation law 'historic juncture'
Sheikh Humoud Mubarak Al-Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah KUWAIT: The new civil aviation law is a historic juncture that will help transform and align the sector with international standards and procedures, said head of Kuwait Public Civil Aviation Authority, Sheikh Humoud Mubarak Al-Humoud Al-Jaber Al-Sabah on Sunday. Speaking to KUNA on issuance of Decree No.85/2025, which renamed the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) as the 'Public Authority for Civil Aviation', Sheikh Humoud said that the step was in line with requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and affiliated regional organizations. The law comes 65 years after the enactment of Laws No. 20/1960 and 27/1960, regulating civil aviation and aircraft accidents in Kuwait, he revealed. He added that the new law would help reinforce the independence of the aviation sectors to accommodate the best international civil aviation practices, organization and administration. He affirmed that the authority would continue to seek global standards in accordance with the vision of the Kuwaiti leadership. This a new achievement for the leadership and government of Kuwait, said Sheikh Humoud, noting that it is part of the sustainable development path to develop legislative infrastructure and ambitious plans to elevate services and civil aviation systems in line with the international obligations of the State of Kuwait. Sheikh Humoud said that the authority would be able to promote transparency and self-auditing to serve the national interests of Kuwait in international arenas and provide services to travelers, aviation companies, and all entities working at Kuwait International Airport. — KUNA
