SAI officer awarded UK Chevening scholarship amid India's push for Global Sporting Stage
Currently serving as Deputy Director at SAI's Bengaluru Regional Centre under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Sathishkumar's selection holds significance as India looks to host future editions of the Commonwealth and Olympic Games. The next Commonwealth Games are also scheduled to take place in the UK, which aligns perfectly with his academic focus.
Hailing from Mela Ammanur, a small village near Thiruthuraipoondi in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvarur district, Sathishkumar is the son of retired headmaster Shanmugam and retired nurse Pakkiriyammal. His journey from rural roots to international recognition is a story of determination and public service.
He joined SAI in 2017 and has since played critical roles in over 10 editions of the Khelo India Games. He was deputed as an official observer for India at major international sporting events, including the Paris Olympics and the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. He currently oversees training, logistics, and support for several Indian national teams based in Bangalore.
Sathishkumar's Chevening selection is expected to further enhance India's sporting diplomacy and governance, especially as the country expands its ambitions on the global sporting map. (ANI)

On their batting approach for the chase, Greaves hoped that the West Indies batters could follow a methodology similar to Australia's middle-order batters. 'As a batting group we need to be positive when we go out to bat. Probably take some notes from Travis Head, Beau Webster or Alex Carey on just having that positive mindset,' he added. Half-centuries from Alex Carey and Beau Webster helped Australia reach 286 in their first innings. Jayden Seales, Shamar Joseph and Justin Greaves took two wickets apiece. West Indies was bowled out for 253 and conceded a lead of 33 runs. Brendon King scored 75 runs. For Australia, Nathan Lyon was the pick of the bowlers and took three wickets. New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Indian Women's Hockey Team forward Deepika has been nominated for the Poligras Magic Skill Award for her incredible solo field goal against World No.1, the Netherlands during the 2024-25 FIH Hockey Pro League season, as per a press release from Hockey India. The nominations for the Poligras Magic Skill Award for the 2024/25 FIH Hockey Pro League season were released on Friday, and the deadline to vote is 14th July at 3:29 a.m. IST. The winner will be announced once the voting ends. The winner of the Poligras Magic Skill Award is decided by hockey fans across the world based on who they think had the best moment and goal during the season. Deepika's iconic moment took place in February 2025 during the Bhubaneswar leg of the FIH Hockey Pro League when the Indian Team defeated the Netherlands in the shootout after a 2-2 draw at the Kalinga Stadium. In the 35th minute, Deepika scored an amazing field goal as India were trailing by two goals. Teams had already locked in eight players as part of their pre-signings. In the draft, they were allowed to choose between seven to 10 more players.
