Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurates 3-day 'Krishi Udyog Samagam 2025' in MP's Narsinghpur
Vice President Dhankar also performed the bhoomi pujan of and inauguration of various development works worth around Rs 116 crore at the event. Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and various state cabinet ministers also graced the occasion.
Vice President Dhankhar along with Governor Mangubhai Patel and CM Yadav also planted a sapling under the 'Ek Ped Maa ke Naam' campaign at the Sammelan program.
Addressing the occasion, CM Yadav remembered former PM late Atal Bihari Vajpayee's dream about Ken-Betwa river and said that with the blessings of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ken-Betwa river linking project was inaugurated and was receiving funds from the central government for the project.
'Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee's 100th birth centenary is going on. He had dreamed of the Ken Betwa river. I am delighted that with the blessings of the Prime Minister, we are getting a sum of Rs 1 lakh crore for our entire Bundelkhand and Ken Betwa River Link Project... Similarly, another river link project, the Parvati-Kalisindh-Chambal link project, is also going on with the Rajasthan government... There is also a third river link project. We signed an MoU with the Maharashtra government to link Tapti River... With this, we will become the citizens of the state of the world's three big rivers linking projects...,' CM Yadav said.
According to an official release, Krishi Udyog Samagam 2025 aims to link Madhya Pradesh's agriculture-based economy with processing and value addition, thereby opening new avenues for investment, innovation, and job creation. Madhya Pradesh is increasingly becoming a national hub for agriculture--from wheat, pulses, and oilseeds to dairy and agri-tech. Narsinghpur's Tur (Pigeon Pea) Dal has been recognized as the state's identity under the 'One District, One Product' scheme, marking a strong step toward linking local products with global markets.
The event will serve as a powerful example of transforming policy announcements into grassroots implementation and socio-economic change. It will conclude on May 28.
Additionally, an Agri-Horti Expo will showcase modern agricultural tools, drones, AI-based equipment, polyhouses, organic and nano fertilizers, dairy and cow-shed products, and water-based farming models at the samagam venue. Live demonstrations of natural and organic farming techniques will also be held. Lectures on farming, food processing, and export will be organized.
Furthermore, networking sessions and seminars will be held for farmers, FPOs, and exporters, where experts will provide technical knowledge and consultation. Over 90 stalls based on agricultural innovations will be set up by eight different departments, offering farmers information on modern technologies and government schemes. (ANI)

PM Modi to dedicate railway projects worth Rs 1,030 crore in Tamil Nadu
CHENNAI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a series of development projects in Tamil Nadu during his visit to Thoothukudi on Saturday, including key railway electrification and doubling works valued at Rs 1,030 crore. The PM will dedicate three critical railway infrastructure projects: Electrification of the 90 km Madurai-Bodinayakkanur line, doubling of the 21 km Nagercoil Town-Kanniyakumari section under the Thiruvananthapuram-Kanniyakumari corridor, and doubling of the Aralvaymozhi-Nagercoil Junction (12.87 km and Tirunelveli-Melappalaiyam (3.6 km) stretches. The Madurai-Bodinayakkanur section, previously a meter gauge route, was converted to broad gauge at a cost of Rs 99 crore. This is expected to promote environmentally sustainable transport, enhance tourism, and benefit farmers, students, and small traders in the Madurai and Theni districts. Similarly, the doubling of tracks in Tirunelveli and Kanniyakumari will significantly boost rail connectivity across southern Tamil Nadu. The project facilitates the introduction of more passenger and freight services while enhancing overall operational efficiency, according to an official release. For the Nagercoil Town-Kanniyakumari doubling project alone, the railways incurred an expenditure of Rs 650 crore, forming a vital part of the larger Thiruvanan–thapuram-Kanniyakumari corridor. The remaining two sections – Aralvaymozhi-Nagercoil and Tirunelveli-Melappalaiyam - were completed at a cost of Rs 283 crore, the release said.

Aadi cracks up egg price by Rs 1 in a month, Namakkal poultry sector faces heat
NAMAKKAL: The Namakkal poulty sector is feeling the chill wind of a drop in egg price as the rate per unit has dropped by nearly Rs 1, thanks to disruptions in demand and supply caused by the ongoing Sawan festival (also called Shravan) in North India. The sector is bracing itself for more loss as the 'price is expected to fall a little more' in the foreseeable future. According to the National Egg Coordination Committee, the price per egg in Namakkal on July 1 stood at Rs 5.75. As of July 24, it has come down to Rs 4.80 – a fall of nearly Rs 1 within a few weeks. The fall in consumption during this religious period (Sawan) has triggered a chain reaction across egg-producing states, forcing Namakkal's poultry industry to reduce prices. The Sawan month, which lasts from mid-July to August, is a time of religious observance across many northern states, during which people avoid consuming meat and eggs. The situation continues with festivals such as Nag Panchami and Janmashtami, which also fall within this period and contribute to less consumption of non-veg food. Andhra Pradesh (AP), the country's top egg producer, is the primary supplier to northern states. With demand falling during Sawan, AP producers have slashed prices drastically, even below production cost, to avoid piling up of stock. When prices drop in AP, their eggs begin entering southern markets like Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kerala – all key buyers of Namakkal's eggs. As buyers shift to AP eggs for cost reasons, Namakkal traders too are forced to reduce their prices to stay competitive. 'From mid-July to August, every year the price of eggs sees a significant drop,' Vangili Subramanian, president of the Tamil Nadu Egg Poultry Marketing Society, said, adding that 'when AP reduces prices due to fall in demand in the North, southern markets start buying from them instead of us, and that hits Namakkal hard'. The current production cost per egg ranges between Rs 4.50 to Rs 4.75, leaving very little margin for producers. 'The price is expected to fall a little more,' Vangili said. 'If the price per egg drops to Rs 4.50 or lower, it will go below our production cost, and we will incur severe losses,' said C Sasikumar, a local poultry owner in Namakkal.

Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar project stalled due to DMK's political vendetta: Edappadi K Palaniswami
PUDUKKOTTAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami has accused the DMK government of shelving 'the highly beneficial' Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar link canal project due to political vendetta. Addressing a gathering during his statewide tour titled 'Makkalai Kappom; Thamizhagathai Meetpom' in Gandarvakottai in Pudukkottai district, Palaniswami said the project that was launched by him during his tenure as chief minister with an initial allocation of Rs 700 crore would have led to the prosperity of Gandarvakottai constituency, which is rich in agriculture and has a high concentration of farmers and agricultural labourers. 'However, after the DMK assumed power, the project was put on hold,' he said. The AIADMK chief said had the project been completed, waterbodies would have been filled, and the groundwater level would have risen. 'An excellent project has been stalled due to political vendetta. Once the AIADMK returns to power, the project initiated at an estimated cost of Rs 14,000 crore will be implemented,' he said. Palaniswami further took a dig at the DMK's public outreach programme, saying the ruling party has now been reduced to a situation where it has to go door to door pleading with people to join the party. 'In contrast, the AIADMK is a party with strong influence and stature like steel, with the ISI stamp on it,' he said. Criticising the DMK government's performance, the opposition leader said despite the DMK promising to extend the 100-day employment scheme to 150 days before coming to power, the government has failed to fulfil it. 'They have not waived off education loans either. These are the people who captured power by spreading lies,' he added.
