BBC presenter announces death of beloved dad in heartbreaking tribute

Daily Record2 days ago
Nina Warhurst, who presents the BBC News at One each day, has announced the death of her dad in an emotional tribute, highlighting his battle with dementia.
BBC presenter Nina Warhurst has opened up about the heartbreaking loss of her dad, revealing his struggle with dementia. The 44-year-old journalist, who presents BBC's News at One live, took to Instagram on Sunday, July 6, to share the sad news.
In an emotional tribute, she shared their final moments together with her 46.7k followers. She posted a touching black and white photo of her holding her dad's hand, reports the Mirror.

"My Dad died on Wednesday night," she penned. "From Sunday me, my Mum and sisters spent precious time with him around the clock....singing, crying, laughing, sharing memories.

"On his last day we had nursing home afternoon tea, chippy chips and wine together. He drifted away gently with me and Amy holding him and telling him to "go head. We'll see you there soon. And he did. I had my hand on his heart as the ripples softened and stopped.
"A gentle end to a gentle life. So much love and laughter and sunshine across days I'll never forget."
Nina continued: "He is in my mind all the time now as we adjust to a world without him in it. I can't quite accept that's real yet. But we think it's really important for anyone going through this to know that the end can be peaceful and beautiful.
"Kim, Daniel, Anna, Moody, Charlotte, Clara, Eddie, Obi, Sarah, Kat, Michael, Colin, Dorothy, Helen, Gracie and all the care home staff and residents who welcomed us in to their world and made it our home for those days and nights we can't thank you enough."
Nina's heartfelt post sparked an overwhelming outpouring of love and support from her fans, friends, and family in the comments. Her sister Amy replied: "It was beautiful. Aren't we lucky? Love you Nines x."

One follower shared their own experience, saying: "Nina, I'm so sorry. My mum had Alzheimer's and died in similar circumstances with us all around her. He will always be with you. I will never forget the kindness of the care home staff to the whole family, looking after all of us throughout my mum's illness. They really do not get enough credit for what they do. Take care of yourself and your family."
Another offered condolences: "Oh Nina I'm so sorry for your loss. You gave him a beautiful send off and were with him as he passed and that means so much. Thinking of you and all the family so much xxx."

In a candid chat last year, Nina alongside sisters Amy and Mel admitted they were still coming to terms with the toll it had taken on their dad in such a short window of time.
Taking to Instagram last year, Nina admitted she was devastated after her dad failed to recognise her. Sharing a photo of herself and Chris, she wrote: "My Dad. I missed him so much this week. Dementia means he's here, but not here. Today was the first time he couldn't quite place me.

"Then he got out a new glasses case. He was clearly chuffed with it but knew it was funny to be chuffed with a new glasses case. In some ways, he taught me to laugh. Properly from the tummy. And to laugh at myself."
She added: "We're all holding on to those deep-rooted connections for as long as we can. Dementia isn't the end. It's the start of a new chapter.
"So much respect for his key worker today who told me that it's all about cherishing those connections, instead of missing the ones we've lost. The staff are superstars and it means the world."

Gregg Wallace: Timeline of misconduct review amid reports of MasterChef sacking

TV presenter Gregg Wallace has been sacked from his presenting role on MasterChef ahead of a review into allegations about historical misconduct, BBC News has said. The 60-year-old, who stepped away from hosting the BBC show last year amid the allegations, has been hit by a new wave of claims published by the news site on Tuesday. In an Instagram post he claimed that the investigation, the outcome of which is yet to be published, 'exonerates me of all the serious allegations which made headlines last year'. Here we take a look at the allegations made against the TV star: – November 28 2024 Wallace faces allegations of inappropriate sexual comments from 13 people across a range of shows over a 17-year period, as reported by BBC News. The TV star steps away from presenting MasterChef while Banijay, the show's production company, announces it is conducting an external review to 'fully and impartially investigate' the claims against him. BBC News says allegations include the presenter 'talking openly about his sex life, taking his top off in front of a female worker saying he wanted to 'give her a fashion show', and telling a junior female colleague he was not wearing any boxer shorts under his jeans'. Broadcaster Kirsty Wark, who was a Celebrity MasterChef contestant in 2011, says he told 'sexualised' jokes during filming. Model Ulrika Jonsson tells The Telegraph that when she competed on Celebrity MasterChef in 2017, Wallace allegedly had to apologise after making a 'rape joke', which caused another female contestant to become 'really distressed'. Sir Rod Stewart takes to Instagram following the accusations, accusing Wallace of 'humiliating' his wife Penny Lancaster on Celebrity MasterChef in 2021. The TV star's lawyers say 'it is entirely false that he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature', BBC News reports. Wallace thanks his Instagram followers for 'showing their support'. – November 29 2024 Wallace faces a string of new allegations with one woman, who worked on a travel show with him, accusing him of making 'lesbian jokes constantly', as reported by BBC News. The charity Ambitious About Autism says it had dropped Wallace as an ambassador, citing the 'recent allegations'. – November 30 2024 Producer and director Dawn Elrick posts a letter on Instagram which includes a number of anonymous accounts from people who allege they 'have experienced sexism and sexual harassment within the TV industry'. She claims the letter, which accuses Wallace of making lewd comments, was sent to the BBC in 2022. The Sunday Telegraph reports producer Georgia Harding, who worked on MasterChef between 2014 and 2015 and later Eat Well For Less, claimed she raised concerns about 'inappropriate' behaviour from him while working on the show. Banijay UK confirms it has appointed law firm Lewis Silkin to lead the investigation into Wallace's alleged behaviour. – December 1 2024 Wallace says in a video posted to Instagram that accusations about him making sexual comments towards staff and guests have come from 'middle-class women of a certain age'. TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp tells BBC Radio 4's The World This Weekend that she was 'so embarrassed' she thought she 'might cry' after Wallace allegedly made a comment to her about his sex life. Celebrity MasterChef 2012 champion Emma Kennedy tells Times Radio the former greengrocer 'just doesn't understand that some behaviour is completely inappropriate'. – December 2 2024 Downing Street says Wallace's response to the accusations being made against him was 'inappropriate and misogynistic'. A spokesperson also says that Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has held talks with BBC bosses in the wake of the Wallace row. Following the backlash, Wallace apologises for any 'offence' or 'upset' he caused with his remarks and said he will now 'take some time out' while the investigation is under way. – December 3 2024 Two MasterChef celebrity Christmas specials are pulled from the BBC's schedule. Wallace faces fresh allegations with one woman claiming he touched her bottom after an event and another alleging he pressed his crotch against her while filming on a different show, according to BBC News. – December 4 2024 Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer says politicians should be ready to put in place 'mechanisms' that would instil 'confidence' that women will be taken seriously in reports of inappropriate behaviour after a Labour MP asked him about 'women of a certain age', reflecting comments Wallace apologised for. MasterChef presenter John Torode says he 'loves being part of' the programme and 'will continue to be a part of it' after Wallace stepped back from the show. A ghostwriter claims Wallace sexually harassed her while she was working on his 2012 autobiography. – December 10 2024 Ms Nandy says she is 'prepared to take further action' if the creative industries cannot address 'cultures of silence and issues being swept under the rug' in relation to claims of misconduct while appearing before the Culture, Media and Sport (CMS) Committee. – April 25 2025 Wallace tells the Daily Mail he 'thought about suicide all the time' after allegations of misconduct were made against him. – July 8 2025 Wallace is sacked as MasterChef presenter following the inquiry into his alleged misconduct by production company Banijay, BBC News reports. Fresh claims about the TV presenter are made from 50 more people to the corporation including allegations he groped one MasterChef worker and pulled his trousers down in front of another, BBC News says. BBC News says it has not seen the final review from Banijay, but it is understood the presenter has been sacked. In an Instagram post the former greengrocer claims he had been cleared of the 'most serious and sensational accusations' against him, ahead of the published review.

Gregg Wallace sacked as MasterChef presenter, says BBC News

The 60-year-old had stepped away from hosting the BBC cooking competition last year after a number of historical complaints came to light. There have been fresh claims about the TV presenter from 50 more people to the corporation including allegations he groped one MasterChef worker and pulled his trousers down in front of another, BBC News said. A university student has claimed he reached under her skirt and pinched her bottom in a nightclub, and a junior worker alleged he dropped his trousers in front of her while he was not wearing any underwear. Gregg Wallace co-presented MasterChef until last year (Ian West/PA) Production firm Banijay previously said Wallace is 'committed to fully co-operating' with the external review while his lawyers have previously strongly denied 'he engages in behaviour of a sexually harassing nature', according to BBC News. Some of the more recent claims include a MasterChef worker who said she tried to complain about comments she alleged he made about her body in 2022, and a former policeman who said he tried to raise concerns after he allegedly witnessed Wallace making inappropriate sexual comments at a charity event in 2023. BBC News reported the majority of the 50 people had said he made inappropriate sexual comments, with 11 women accusing him of inappropriate sexual behaviour, such as groping and touching. BBC News also said it has not seen the final Banijay report but it is understood the presenter has been sacked. Earlier on Tuesday, the former greengrocer claimed he had been cleared of the 'most serious and sensational accusations' against him ahead of the report examining his alleged misconduct. In a statement posted on his Instagram account, he said: 'I will not go quietly. I will not be cancelled for convenience. I was tried by media and hung out to dry well before the facts were established. 'The full story of this incredible injustice must be told and it is very much a matter of public interest.' He also said he recognises that some of his humour and language was inappropriate 'at times' and apologised for this. Wallace started out as a greengrocer before he shot to fame fronting BBC shows including Inside The Factory, Supermarket Secrets, as well as MasterChef, Celebrity MasterChef and MasterChef: The Professionals. The most recent series of MasterChef: The Professionals continued to air last year amid allegations against Wallace, but two MasterChef celebrity Christmas specials were pulled from the BBC's schedule in December 2024. At the time, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy said she would look to impose new standards in the creative industry amid the allegations. A BBC spokesperson said: 'Banijay UK instructed the law firm Lewis Silkin to run an investigation into allegations against Gregg Wallace. 'We are not going to comment until the investigation is complete and the findings are published.' Banijay UK declined to comment on Wallace's comments.
