Real Madrid sign Benfica's Carreras to continue summer rebuild - World
Real Madrid signed defender Alvaro Carreras from Benfica on a six-year deal, the Spanish giants said on Monday. The 22-year-old Spanish left-back, who played for Madrid's youth academy before joining Manchester United in 2020, is reported to have cost close to 50 million euros ($58 million). "Real Madrid and Benfica have reached an agreement for the transfer of Alvaro Carreras, who will be under contract with our club for the next six seasons, until 30 June 2031," said Los Blancos in a statement. The defender played 62 times for Benfica, scoring five goals for the club, including an initial loan spell before they signed him for six million euros from United in 2024. Carreras becomes Madrid's fourth signing of a significant summer rebuild after Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Franco Mastantuono, at an estimated cost of around 170 million euros in transfer fees. After finishing last season without a major trophy coach Carlo Ancelotti departed and was replaced by Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard steered Madrid to the Club World Cup semi-finals but they were hammered 4-0 by runners-up Paris Saint-Germain. Barcelona sign young Swedish winger Roony Bardghji from Copenhagen - Egyptian Football
The Catalan club said Monday it reached an agreement with the Danish club for the transfer of Bardghji. It called him 'one of the most in-demand young players in Europe.' The contract will run until 2029. Bardghji joined Copenhagen's youth academy from Malmö in 2020 and moved up to the first team in 2022, going on to play 84 games and score 15 goals. Barcelona said Bardghji's rise was temporarily held back by a knee injury that sidelined him for almost a year. The club said the Kuwait-born player is 'known for his skill, speed, and goal-scoring ability, qualities that make him a great prospect for the future.' It said Bardghji has great 'one-on-one skills' and the 'ability to dribble past opponents.' 'His presence on the right wing can, therefore, make the difference and provide more dynamism,' Barcelona said. Bardghji won three Danish league titles and two Danish Cups with Copenhagen. Barcelona said he made 'decisive contributions' for the team's success. (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at @AO_Sports and on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports.) Zamalek sign Pharco FC striker Amr Nasser on five-year deal - Egyptian Football
Zamalek have signed Pharco FC striker Amr Nasser on a five-year contract, the Egyptian Premier League club announced on Monday. The 26-year-old becomes Zamalek's third signing of the summer transfer window following the arrivals of goalkeeper El-Mahdi Soliman and Angolan winger Chico Banza on Sunday. Nasser was Pharco's top scorer last season, netting nine goals in 26 league appearances after joining the Alexandria-based club in January 2024. He previously played for Arab Contractors, Aswan, ENPPI, and second-division sides Masry of Saloum and El-Nassr. Zamalek are also reportedly close to signing Nasser's teammate Ahmed Sherif, as the club seeks to reshuffle its squad following a disappointing campaign last season which saw them finish third in the league and exit the CAF Confederation Cup in the quarter-finals. The new Egyptian Premier League season is scheduled to begin in August. (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at @AO_Sports and on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports.)
