MACC Completes Ismail Sabri Probe, Plans RM170 Mln Forfeiture
PUTRAJAYA, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that the investigation into former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has been completed, and a forfeiture application for cash amounting to RM170 million is expected to be filed within the next two weeks.
MACC Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki said the investigation papers have been submitted to the Attorney General's Chambers, and the Deputy Public Prosecutor has agreed to proceed with the application for forfeiture of the cash.
'The affidavit application and related documents are being prepared. It is up to Ismail Sabri to challenge our application,' he said at a press conference at the MACC headquarters here today.
However, Azam clarified that no decision has been made yet regarding criminal charges against the country's ninth prime minister.
Ismail Sabri had previously appeared at the MACC headquarters several times to assist in investigations into alleged corruption and money laundering involving the use and procurement of funds for promotion and publicity of the Keluarga Malaysia programme during his administration from August 2021 to November 2022.
Azam said the MACC had also recorded a statement from Ismail Sabri's former son-in-law, Datuk Jovian Mandagie, in relation to the investigation into the former prime minister's asset ownership.
The investigation followed a directive for Ismail Sabri to declare his assets under Section 36(1) of the MACC Act 2009. The declaration was made on Feb 10, and the MACC is now analysing the sources of the declared assets.
Following that, the MACC seized RM170 million in cash in various foreign currencies — including Baht, Riyal, Pound Sterling, Won, Euro, Swiss Franc and Yuan — and confiscated 16 kilogrammes of pure gold bars estimated to be worth RM7 million, as part of the corruption and money laundering probe against the former prime minister.
The seizures were made during raids at a residence and office believed to have been used as a 'safehouse', based on investigations into four of Ismail Sabri's former senior officers who were detained in February.

He said the recently launched Desa Kirana initiative was being hailed as a game changer in the lead-up to Visit Malaysia 2026. According to him, the initiative aims to boost rural tourism and strengthen the local economy by empowering cultural heritage, natural attractions, traditional cuisine, handicrafts and a variety of rural-based activities. "I hope to one day see our rural gems - from Arau to Kudat, from Sabah's interior to the coast of Sarawak - emerge as world-class tourist destinations. Just like Lauterbrunnen in Switzerland, Hobbiton in New Zealand, Shirakawa-go in Japan, or Ubud in Bali - places that were once quiet but now stand proudly on the global tourism map," he said. Ahmad Zahid also said that his ministry would organise a three-dimensional Mega Carnival, which will bring together three major events simultaneously: the Rural Entrepreneur Carnival, Felda Settlers' Day, and the One District One Industry initiative. "This marks another major shift - a strategic effort to elevate rural entrepreneurs and strengthen the rural entrepreneurship ecosystem at both the national and international levels," he said. Meanwhile, he also called on the ministry's secretary-general, Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar, to review the existing training system. PM chooses key people in govt, not the royals

PM pushes back against lobby to extend CJ's term, calls it politicisation GP20257: Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, if you haven't figured it out yet, let me spell it out. The issue isn't that every retiring civil servant should have his/her tenure extended, but the excellent ones should, especially when there's a vacuum in key positions. There was no lack of candidates for the MACC chief or IGP posts, but they were duly filled, not according to normal promotion procedures. In Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat's case, it's very clear that a very good CJ is being bypassed, even according to normal procedures. It's not just ordinary people who are asking for her extension, but the Malaysian Bar, respected leaders, and other professionals. To us, it means; 1) Your judgment is flawed and unreliable; 2) You don't understand your role, or you don't have the courage to advise the king on your choice. It's the prime minister who chooses the key people in his or her government, not the royals, as the royals in this country, according to the Federal Constitution, do not govern. Top appointments to the government are the PM's choices. As long as the choices are made according to the constitution, the king makes the PM's choices official. That's the meaning of the king acting on the advice of the PM. It takes a PM with a backbone, not a glib mouth, to advise the king on his role. Apparently, Anwar can't do the job. Just resign and spare us this misgovernance. BobbyO: What a lame excuse. Anwar, do you think the people are fools, or do you think that power is in your hands and you will decide according to your own selfish agenda, just as you did in extending MACC Azam Baki's tenure not once but thrice? In fact, he has even forgotten or refused to recognise who his supporters are for the past 20 over years. The fault lies in his supporters (especially the urban citizens). If we look at what he did when he was in Umno, he was a very racist leader, hence his meteoric rise to be the deputy president of Umno. He was almost on the verge of becoming the president (prime minister). Most of his reforms at the time were very much at the expense of a certain group of people. We have been badly mistaken, or maybe we have fooled ourselves. Has DAP also taken advantage of the people's foolishness to gain power and enjoys that power now? Where you should have retained talent, you let them go, and where you should have dispensed with them, you gleefully retained. We will keep this in mind when voting in the 16th general election. JS-SEZ, RTS link to boost Johor property market
JOHOR BARU: Johor's property market is expected to enter a new phase of growth following the signing of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) agreement and the ongoing development of the Johor Baru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link. Real estate services company Nawawie Tie said in a statement that residential property demand is expected to grow gradually particularly in the rental market. 'Residential property demand in Johor is led by locals, Malaysians working in Singapore, and Singaporeans with the JS-SEZ poised to attract greater foreign interest 'While residential property demand is expected to grow progressively, owner occupiers are likely to remain cautious until there is greater clarity on supporting policies and infrastructure rollouts. 'Landed properties continue to be the preferred choice for buyers, representing 65% of total transactions in Johor and the Johor Baru district accounted for 60% of these transactions,' according to the statement. Meanwhile, the industrial property market in the Johor Baru district is projected to thrive, driven by the expansion of the manufacturing sector and rising foreign direct investment. Johor is also emerging as a key regional hub for data centres, further boosting demand for industrial properties. In the first quarter of this year, a total of 353 housing units were transacted in Johor, with terraced units and semi-detached units being the most prominent.
