Sergio Garcia Secures LIV Golf Open Championship Exemption
Although Garcia did not earn any points in Dallas, finishing tied for 25th at 3 over, he was the highest-placed LIV Golf player inside the top five through the season's first nine events without an exemption.
Garcia is fifth in the season-long Individual Championship points race behind Joaquin Niemann, Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm and Dallas winner Patrick Reed, each of whom already have an exemption into the Open.
Garcia will make his 26th Open appearance and 102nd major championship start at Royal Portrush next month.
"It's going to be my second time playing at Royal Portrush, and it's obviously nice," Garcia said. "It's one of the goals that you have at the beginning of the year, to try to play as many majors as you can with the limitations that we have.
"I didn't help myself very much the last three months, but I'm glad that I got enough work done in the first third of the year, I guess, in the first part of the season. I'm excited about it, and hopefully I'll play well."

Herbie Farnworth blow rocks fans as fresh details come to light ahead of Ashes
English and Dolphins fans were left rocked on Friday night when star centre Herbie Farnworth went down clutching at his hamstring against the Warriors, but coach Kristian Woolf claimed he may be back before the end of the season. Farnworth has arguably been the best centre in the competition across the last two years and has been a huge part of the Dolphins success in 2025. Farnworth was also eyeing the Ashes series at the end of the year where he was looking to inspire his English side at home against the Kangaroos. Although that is all in doubt right now after going down clutching at his hamstring in the Dolphins' thrilling 20-18 win over the Warriors in New Zealand. Farnworth had already opened the scoring against the Warriors and had burst through for his second linebreak of the night in the first 20 minutes when he collapsed without any contact. And it immediately had fans concerned. 'This is potentially devastating for not just this game but the Dolphins' season. He's gone. The old sniper got him in fresh air. He ran past Healey like he wasn't there and there was only Tuaupiki to beat. It was two on one," Fox Sports commentator Warren Smith said. 'He was in about fourth gear and looked towards the fullback and then boom, it just goes as quickly as that.' Although Woolf has moved to offer some good news with initial reports suggesting Farnworth is looking at four to six weeks on the sidelines. The centre has scans booked back in Brisbane. "To lose Herbie early like we that's a big hit for us. To win the way we did, just that second-half, I thought were were brave," Woolf said. "It's obviously a bad it is we don't quite no yet. I would have thought at least four or six weeks." And 'NRL Physio' Brien Seeney also suggested it isn't as bad as it may have appeared, but Farnworth could be facing anywhere between four to eight weeks on the sideline. While the latter would mean he wouldn't return unless the Dolphins made a late finals push, he could be back before the end of the regular season. Although English fans were left concerned having watched arguably their biggest attacking weapon go down months out from the historic Ashes series against Australia. Farnworth was a guaranteed selection having torn Samoa apart in last year's two-match series. But there main attacking weapon should be lining up at Wembley in the first Ashes tour in 22 years. This is worrying - hoping this isn't as serious as it looks and Herbie Farnworth is fit and firing for the Ashes 🙏 — The Tryline 🏉 (@TrylineUK) August 1, 2025 Farnworth might be a doubt for The Ashes now mate — DeanC_2024 (@DeanC_2024) August 1, 2025 He's obviously the other centre. It will be him and Farnworth if he's not injured too badly. But if he is, then there's no one really to replace him. — Old Man Winter (@OldManWinter999) August 1, 2025 RELATED: Fans fume over Reece Walsh act as Wayne Bennett rocked over 18th man drama Wayne Bennett and Rabbitohs set for fresh NRL blow as player seeks exit Warriors coach stoic after thrilling defeat Jamayne Isaako scored in the final minute of the contest to give the Dolphins a much needed win to move into the top eight. Although the Warriors, who are also dealing with a brutal injury toll, now see their position in the top four under threat. The Broncos moved to 28 points after thrashing the Rabbitohs and the Panthers play the Titans on Saturday with the opportunity to move one point behind the Warriors. The Panthers are on a roll with a fully-fit side, while the Warriors were missing a host of stars such as James Fisher-Harris and Wayde Egan. And while Warriors coach Andrew Webster may have felt deflated after the thrilling defeat, he wasn't going to dwell on the loss. "There's so many good signs but it's hard to take obviously because it's such a dramatic finish," he said. "No-one is going to lie, you get your hopes up ... and then it gets taken away from you and that's hard, but we've got to move on."

PGA Tour money leaders: Open champion Scottie Scheffler opens big lead over No. 2 Rory McIlroy
There's no catching Scottie Scheffler on the PGA Tour money list for the rest of the regular season, even with a two-week break he's planning before the FedEx Cup Playoffs begin with the St. Jude Classic Aug. 7-10. Scheffler's victory in the British Open and its $3.1 million first-place check pushed his title to more than $19 million this season, more than $3 million over second-place Rory McIlroy. Since the combined first-place checks for this week's 3M Championship ($1,512,000) and next week's Wyndham Championship ($1,476,000) are less than $3 million, Scheffler can't be caught until the playoffs. The first two playoff events offer $3.6 million to the winner and the Tour Championship in Atlanta Aug. 21-24 has an $18 million payout. Little movement on the PGA Tour money list Chris Gotterup had another good week on the British Isles, following his victory in the Scottish Open with solo third at Royal Portrush and $1,128. That pushes him from 51st to 30th with $3,714,337. He's earned more than $2.7 million in the last two weeks. Another big jump was by Harris English, who earned $1,759,000 for his solo second and moved from 15th to eighth. He now has $7,734,152. Ryan Gerard's victory in the Barracuda Championship earned $720,000, moving him from 44th on the money list to 31st with a bit more than $3.6 million. Other than that, movement was relatively minor among the money leaders. PGA Tour money leaders Through the British Open, Barracuda Championship 1. Scottie Scheffler $19,202,883 2. What McLaren CEO Zak Brown Thinks Of FOX Acquiring A Third Of IndyCar
McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown has offered many opinions on what IndyCar owner Roger Penske and Penske Entertainment need to do to increase the footprint of the NTT IndyCar Series. In the past, he has talked about massive investment in promotion and marketing, even the possibility of bringing on an ownership partner to make that happen. On August 31, IndyCar announced that partner as FOX purchased a one-third stake in Penske Entertainment including IndyCar, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, INDY NXT by Firestone and IMS Productions. In addition, FOX Sports media rights partnership with IndyCar and the Indianapolis 500 has been extended. The deal is worth between $125 million to $135 million and gives Penske Entertainment the opportunity to grow and expand IndyCar awareness through additional marketing and promotion. FOX Sports is in its first season as the broadcast partner for the NTT IndyCar Series. Zak Brown Incredibly Impressed In addition to owning the McLaren Racing Formula One team, Brown and McLaren also own the Arrow McLaren IndyCar team featuring drivers Pato O'Ward of Monterrey, Mexico, Christian Lundgaard of Hedensted, Denmark, and Nolan Siegel of Palo Alto, California. Brown has been incredibly impressed with FOX Sports' promotional and marketing efforts regarding IndyCar, especially the enthusiasm of FOX Sports CEO Eric Shanks. 'The news today on FOX's acquisition and investment into the NTT IndyCar Series is very positive for everyone involved,' Brown said after the announcement. 'They believe in the series and its potential, and they've already shown the marketing power they can bring to grow the sport and its exposure to new fans. 'Eric (Shanks) and I have had many conversations on his ideas to broadcast and promote IndyCar, and there will be a lot of exciting things to look forward to. With this new enhanced commitment with FOX, I'm more confident than ever in where the series is heading into 2026 and beyond.' This deal may seem unique because Penske gives up an ownership stake in the company that owns IndyCar, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the Indianapolis 500, but he does not give up control. When Liberty Media purchased Formula One in 2017, it acquired ownership control of the international racing series. FOX has a large stake in IndyCar and will be actively involved in helping to grow the series, but the ultimately control remains with Penske. In other sports, Disney's ESPN is involved in discussions with the National Football League involving a 10 percent stake in ESPN, in return for the NFL Network and RedZone Channels, according to numerous media reports. FOX Sports owns the United Football League (UFL) and is involved with the Big Ten, including ownership of the Big Ten Network. Warner Brothers, Discovery has an ownership stake in professional three-on-three women's basketball league, Unrivaled. Although Penske said he wasn't looking for additional capital, FOX's one-year improvement in viewership, including 7.1 million viewers for this year's Indianapolis 500, created interest when he was approached by FOX. With Shanks and FOX providing bold vision, it gives IndyCar an opportunity to work on new events, sponsorship opportunities and increasing on site attendance at race tracks on the schedule. That is exactly what McLaren's Zak Brown has wanted.
