Bottom-six Premiership games live on TV from next season
Two bottom-six matches after the Scottish Premiership split will be broadcast live from next season following changes agreed with the Scottish Professional Football League.Sky Sports has the rights to show 60 live top-flight games per season in Scotland, with Premier Sports securing a deal to show 20 live matches for five years from last term. That deal precluded Premier from showing any matches after game 33, when the league splits in half. But the SPFL and both broadcasters have agreed to change the agreement to allow Premier to screen two live matches in the bottom half of the table.Fans and some pundits have criticised the fact no games in the bottom six have been shown live for several seasons despite drama at the foot of the table.SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said the change was "great news" for fans."We know supporters have been keen to tune into the most exciting games in the bottom six as clubs battle to avoid relegation and we've been discussing that situation with our broadcast partners over recent months," he said."We'd like to thank Sky Sports and Premier Sports for their support in agreeing this change to their broadcast contracts - and for their continued excellent coverage of our national game."

Bairns given 'a kick up the backside'
Falkirk were given "a wake-up call" in their defeat to League 2 side Edinburgh City, says assistant coach Paul Bairns were three goals down at home to Michael McIndoe's City, and despite a late rally, the Premiership new boys couldn't force a draw."A wee wake-up call for us," he told club media post-match."Defensively, we defend as a team so, when they're picking on the back four or whatever, we defend from the front, but we gave away three very, very poor goals the first half, which, gets the players a wee bit restless."Even in the first half, we had a lot of chances as well. I think were very poor in both boxes."It's a wee kick up the backside that we know we'll have to go and do things better. "We can't let our standards drop and our standards certainly dropped in the first half."

Sheridan questions 'excitement' around Hearts deal
Cillian Sheridan has questioned the "excitement" around Tony Bloom's £9.86m investment in Hearts and the Brighton owner's intent to challenge for whose Jamestown Analytics already had an ongoing relationship with Hearts, hopes the Tynecastle club can "disrupt the pattern of domination which has been in place for far too long" after completing a deal to buy a 29% stake."Celtic and Rangers will be doing something similar themselves," former Celtic, Kilmarnock and Dundee forward Sheridan told BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound."I think there's maybe too much excitement about how much of a difference it's going to make." No team outside Celtic or Rangers has won the Scottish top flight in 40 years, with Sir Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen champions in Sheridan added: "£9m or £10m. I don't think that's going to challenge Celtic or Rangers. Celtic could go and buy, and I would imagine they probably will, one player in a transfer in the region of that."It might elevate Hearts above the rest of the pack but I don't think it's enough to challenge the [top] two, really."Last season, Brighton finished eighth in the Premier League, just missing out on Europe. Hearts were seventh in the Scottish Premiership."Brighton's model was, probably similar to Brentford's, getting players at bargain prices," said ex-Republic of Ireland international Sheridan, who is now with Brechin City."They get players who are unheard of. At what stage in the pecking order do Hearts come into it?"Do Hearts get the players that Brighton don't want? Which ones are Hearts getting?"

Emulating Dons would be amazing - Dundee's Murray
Simon Murray hopes Dundee can emulate Aberdeen's Scottish Cup win and do something "amazing".The 33-year-old has been made Dens Park captain under new boss Steven Pressley and was jointly second-top scorer in the Scottish Premiership last season with 16 goals, 22 across all May, the Dons ended an 11-year wait for a trophy by winning the Scottish Cup penalties against holders Celtic. Dundee last won a major trophy in 1973."We all know how hard it is in this country to win something," Murray said."Seeing Aberdeen winning the Scottish Cup at the end of the year, that's what you want to be a part of. If we could do something like that or bring European football to Dens, it would be amazing." Former Brentford head of individual development Pressley has replaced Tony Docherty, the manager who brought Murray back to Dundee last thinks highly of both and said of his new head coach on BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound: "It's been really exciting, the ideas that he's got and how he wants us to play."He's been down south at Brentford for the last four or five years. He's maybe going to try and implement some of the things that they do with us."It's just exciting to maybe learn something new and see where it takes us."Dundee open their 2025-26 campaign with League Cup games against Airdrieonians, Alloa Athletic, Bonnyrigg Rose and Montrose before a Scottish Premiership opener at home to Hibernian on 3 on being captain, Murray said: "I'm just going to keep being me and hopefully that personality is good for maybe some of the younger players and trying to help them on as well as leading on a match day."I'm just looking forward to having an even better season. Make sure you get off to a good start and take it from there." 'Dundee is his club' In Saturday's Sportsound interview, former manager Docherty revealed Murray had turned down a more lucrative offer to sign for his boyhood team last summer."Dundee is his club and he's such a driven individual," said Docherty."You see the way he celebrates, he's the most passionate and enthusiastic footballer on a daily basis - and that's why I wanted him in the building. "To work with a player like that is so refreshing."
