AI-powered routes to expand DEVI services
Officials said that over two dozen new routes and nearly 600 new bus stops have been identified in the Trans-Yamuna region as part of the revamp, with implementation set to begin next month. The new stops, marked by pillars instead of full-fledged shelters, will cater to neighbourhoods previously left out of the network.
'We were receiving repeated complaints about a lack of dedicated stops and clarity in routes. In many areas, buses passed through without any designated halts. This new plan will change that,' said a DTC official. Currently, 246 mini electric buses operate under the DEVI scheme, including 50 metro feeder services already integrated into the DTC fleet. These are managed from Ghazipur, East Vinod Nagar and Shastri Park. Under new plan, all buses will run on freshly mapped routes, with 18 out of 21 routes in Trans-Yamuna redesigned.

Over 50% tiger deaths since 2021 occurred outside tiger reserves: Govt data
More than half of the tiger deaths in India between 2021 and so far in 2025 have occurred outside protected reserves, with Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh accounting for the highest numbers, government data shows. According to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), 667 tigers died during this period and 341, or 51%, of the deaths occurred outside tiger reserves . In 2024, Madhya Pradesh logged 24 such deaths, while Maharashtra reported 16. This year, 20 tigers have so far died outside reserves in Maharashtra, 13 in Madhya Pradesh, eight in Kerala and seven in Karnataka. The NTCA data also shows that 1,519 tigers died between 2012 and 2024, and 634, or 42 per cent, of the deaths occurred outside reserves. Currently, about 30 per cent of India's estimated 3,682 tigers live outside notified tiger reserves. To address the growing human-tiger conflict in these areas, the government plans to soon launch the Tigers Outside Tiger Reserves (TOTR) project, which will cover 80 forest divisions across 17 states. According to the latest tiger-population estimation conducted in 2022, there were around 785 tigers in Madhya Pradesh, 563 in Karnataka, 560 in Uttarakhand, 444 in Maharashtra, 306 in Tamil Nadu, 229 in Assam, 213 in Kerala and 205 in Uttar Pradesh.

DTC says no waterbody exists where Najafgarh bus terminal land is, seeks vacation of stay on fresh construction
New Delhi: After National Green Tribunal directed Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) not to carry out any fresh construction in southwest Delhi's Najafgarh, the latter claimed that no waterbody exists on the land on which the terminal is built. It requested NGT to vacate the stay. NGT is hearing a plea filed by two residents who have alleged that the land on which the Najafgarh Bus Terminal is operating is a wetland and has been encroached upon by Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). They have also alleged that DTC is now constructing a new terminal on the wetland, which is a violation of the Wetlands (Conservation and Management) Rules, 2010. "The subject land is recorded as 'johar' in the revenue records under the ownership of the gram sabha. The land was urbanised in 1963 and later allotted by DDA to DTC. The construction on the said land appears to be carried out without obtaining the necessary environmental clearances, such as change of land use and forest NOC, in violation of Wetlands Rules, 2017," the SDM said in his report. The NGT, in an order dated July 4, asked \DTC not to carry out any fresh construction. However, DTC, in a separate report dated July 22, claimed that the terminal was constructed over 20 years ago and the terminal's revamp was announced in 2019. "The nearest wetland to the Najafgarh Bus Terminal is behind the terminal and is under the ownership of the SDMC (now MCD). It is prayed that the stay order dated July 2, 2025, be vacated," DTC said.
