Primary school teacher claims trial to Yaba pill possession
SHAH ALAM: A primary school teacher claimed trial at the magistrate's court here today to a charge of possessing 5.1 grammes of Yaba pills, commonly known as 'pil kuda', last Friday. Mohd Amirul Amin Ismail, 34, a physical education teacher, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him before Magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman. Amirul, a father of one, was charged with possessing the drugs without authorisation under the Dangerous Drugs Act, an offence under Section 12(2) punishable under Section 39A. He allegedly committed the offence at about 12.30am at the teachers' quarters in Subang Jaya on July 25. He faces a jail term of not less than two years and up to five years, as well as three to nine strokes of the rotan, if found guilty. Deputy public prosecutor Muaz Khawarizmi Azfar offered RM6,000 bail with one surety. Lawyer Anasuha Atiqah Mat Saidi, who represented Amirul, asked the court to set bail at RM3,000, citing that it was all her client's wife, who would post bail, could afford. "The accused earns RM3,500 monthly and is the sole breadwinner for his family. He supports his unemployed wife, their three-year-old child and an aged mother. "This is his first charge linked to drug possession. He is a civil servant, has cooperated fully with the police during remand and is not a flight risk. "As bail is to guarantee his attendance in court, I ask that it be set at RM3,000. "His wife is here and ready to be his bailor," she said.

Teen brothers charged with abduction, assault of lorry driver
SHAH ALAM: Two brothers were jointly charged at the magistrate's court today with two charges of abducting and voluntarily causing hurt to a lorry driver, allegedly over a monetary dispute last week. V. Kirtik Ram, 19, and V. Theshvinram, 18, pleaded not guilty after the two joint charges were read out to them before magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali. Kirtik, a lorry attendant, and Theshvinram, a p-hailing rider, both wearing face masks, stood side by side near the dock during proceedings and nodded to show they understood the charges. They claimed trial to the charges of kidnapping with the intent to secretly and wrongfully confine someone and causing injuries on Muhamad Azwar Danish Rosmadi, 21. The alleged incident occurred at 6.38pm in Jalan Persiaran Puchong Permai, Puchong, on July 22. The charges under Section 365 and Section 323 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code carry a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, as well as a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction. Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Akhilah Rosmi urged the court to set bail of RM8,000 for each charge. Defence lawyer Noor Farazidah asked the court to set a minimal bail. She said the brothers are taking care of their 64-year-old grandmother and are supporting their younger siblings. "The accused are young offenders and voluntarily surrendered to the police. "Kirtik earns RM1,500 a month as a lorry attendant while Theshvinram, who suffers from shoulder injuries, has unstable income as a p-hailing rider. "They are innocent until proven guilty, and I ask for them to be given the lowest possible bail," she said. Redza set bail at RM7,000 with one surety for each accused and set Sept 8 for mention. Last Friday, their alleged accomplice, lorry driver, P. Nandakumaar, 32, was charged under Section 365 in connection with the same case before Shah Alam court magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman. He, however, was denied bail. Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat had said three suspects were arrested in Puchong and Hulu Selangor for their involvement in the abduction. Police seized clothes and mobile phones to facilitate further investigations. Wan Azlan said based on preliminary investigations, the motive of the abduction is unpaid debt. A 40-second video clip of the victim being forcibly shoved into the back of a lorry recorded by a road user has gone viral. The men were seen assaulting the victim as they pushed him into the lorry. Acting on a tip-off, a man was arrested and he was found with the victim.
