Teen brothers charged with abduction, assault of lorry driver
V. Kirtik Ram, 19, and V. Theshvinram, 18, pleaded not guilty after the two joint charges were read out to them before magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali.
Kirtik, a lorry attendant, and Theshvinram, a p-hailing rider, both wearing face masks, stood side by side near the dock during proceedings and nodded to show they understood the charges.
They claimed trial to the charges of kidnapping with the intent to secretly and wrongfully confine someone and causing injuries on Muhamad Azwar Danish Rosmadi, 21.
The alleged incident occurred at 6.38pm in Jalan Persiaran Puchong Permai, Puchong, on July 22.
The charges under Section 365 and Section 323 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code carry a maximum jail term of seven years and a fine, as well as a jail term of up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Akhilah Rosmi urged the court to set bail of RM8,000 for each charge.
Defence lawyer Noor Farazidah asked the court to set a minimal bail.
She said the brothers are taking care of their 64-year-old grandmother and are supporting their younger siblings.
"The accused are young offenders and voluntarily surrendered to the police.
"Kirtik earns RM1,500 a month as a lorry attendant while Theshvinram, who suffers from shoulder injuries, has unstable income as a p-hailing rider.
"They are innocent until proven guilty, and I ask for them to be given the lowest possible bail," she said.
Redza set bail at RM7,000 with one surety for each accused and set Sept 8 for mention.
Last Friday, their alleged accomplice, lorry driver, P. Nandakumaar, 32, was charged under Section 365 in connection with the same case before Shah Alam court magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman.
He, however, was denied bail.
Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat had said three suspects were arrested in Puchong and Hulu Selangor for their involvement in the abduction.
Police seized clothes and mobile phones to facilitate further investigations.
Wan Azlan said based on preliminary investigations, the motive of the abduction is unpaid debt.
A 40-second video clip of the victim being forcibly shoved into the back of a lorry recorded by a road user has gone viral.
The men were seen assaulting the victim as they pushed him into the lorry.
Acting on a tip-off, a man was arrested and he was found with the victim.

Court orders Caprice to remove defamatory Instagram posts about businessman
KUALA LUMPUR: The High Court here today ordered rapper Caprice to immediately remove all defamatory posts about a businessman from his Instagram account, which were uploaded last month. Judge Datuk Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh made the ruling after allowing an ad-interim injunction sought by Datuk Seri Jeyenderan Ramasamy, 50, against Caprice, whose real name is Ariz Ramli, 39, as the sole defendant. The court also restrained Caprice from making further defamatory statements about the plaintiff pending the hearing of the inter partes injunction. The order was confirmed by Jeyenderan's lawyers, Muniandy Vestanathan, Fiona Aurelia Culas and Muhammad Afiq Yahawa, as well as Caprice's counsel, Megat Syazlee Mokhtarom, when contacted by Bernama. Jeyenderan, the chief executive officer of a shipping company, filed the suit on July 21, claiming that on July 10, the defendant had uploaded several posts, including photographs and videos of him, on Instagram, allegedly linking him to criminal activities, gangsterism and armed threats, without any credible evidence. Based on his statement of claim, the plaintiff asserted that the defamatory posts were intended to create suspicion, public hatred and social pressure against him, and that the defendant had never contacted him or his representatives to seek verification or clarification before publishing such serious allegations. He contended that the defendant's actions clearly demonstrated no intent to provide fair and accurate information, but rather to tarnish his name and reputation, noting that the defendant commands significant influence on Instagram with over 1.5 million followers. As a result of the publications, Jeyenderan alleged that his reputation as a global shipping and maritime expert had been damaged, and claimed he suffered special damages amounting to RM1 million after losing several keynote speaking contracts in Dubai, Turkey and India, offered by a Dubai-based company. On July 15, his solicitors issued a letter of demand to the defendant outlining several demands, which the defendant subsequently rejected through Messrs Megat Iqbal & Co. The plaintiff is seeking RM3 million in damages for reputational harm, special damages, general damages and exemplary damages, along with costs and any other relief deemed appropriate by the court. He is also applying for an injunction to prevent the defendant from making further defamatory statements, to compel the removal of all defamatory content, and to require a public apology across all social media accounts owned or controlled by the defendant.

Two brothers arrested after 90km high-speed chase in Shah Alam
SHAH ALAM: Two brothers, aged 24 and 18, were arrested after leading police on a high-speed chase spanning 90 kilometres in Shah Alam. The pursuit lasted nearly an hour before authorities intercepted the suspects' vehicle. Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident began around 1.30 am when a Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) spotted a suspicious blue Proton Wira in Section 7 Commercial Centre. Police attempted to stop the car using sirens and loudspeakers, but the driver accelerated instead. 'This led to a 90km chase around Shah Alam before six additional patrol vehicles were called in to help intercept the suspects' vehicle. After nearly an hour, police managed to stop the car in Section 9, in front of the Selangor Police Headquarters, and arrested both suspects,' Mohd Iqbal said in a statement. Upon inspection, officers found a bottle containing a green liquid suspected to be ketum juice under the front passenger seat. Checks revealed the older brother had five prior drug-related offences, while the younger suspect had no criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant and Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952. The Shah Alam Magistrate's Court granted a three-day remand for both suspects. A 17-second video of the chase at Section 7 Commercial Centre had earlier gone viral on social media.
