Itanagar:
Indian Air Force Corporal Tage Hailyang, who was vacationing in Pahalgam with his wife, risked his life and guided tourists to safety, helping them escape before he fell to the bullets of the terrorists, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu said on Thursday.
Pema Khandu, who went to Hailyang home at Tajang village in Lower Subansiri district shortly after his mortal remains reached there, said his name will forever be etched in the history of Arunachal Pradesh as a symbol of valour and his sacrifice will inspire the generations to come.
The CM announced that his government would provide Hailyang's family with financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh, in addition to a job for a member.
Hailyang, one of the 26 people killed in the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22, will be laid to rest in his village on Friday.
Pema Khandu met the IAF Corporal's wife, parents and family members and offered his condolences.
"The loss is beyond measure, and the people of Arunachal Pradesh stand in solidarity with the family during this time of profound sorrow," he said.
Describing the airman's final moment as an act of 'exceptional courage' in the face of grave danger, Pema Khandu said he had the chance to flee but chose instead to protect those around him.
"Risking his own life, he guided civilians to safety, helping them escape the line of fire. His selflessness in that critical moment stands as a rare and inspiring act of bravery," the chief minister said.
He said that the state government will construct a permanent memorial in Hailyang's native village, showcasing his early education in Ziro and Haryana's Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram, to his graduation from Don Bosco, Itanagar and his dedicated service in the Indian Air Forces since 2017.
"His life is a shining testament to the strength, discipline, and patriotism of our youth," Khandu said.
The chief minister said Pakistan's continued sheltering of terrorist elements is a grave threat to global peace and must be met with resolute action.
Praising the firm stand taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he expressed confidence that the nation will respond with the strength and resolve that such a grave sacrifice demands.
Earlier in the day, Hailyang's mortal remains reached his home in Tajang village around 7.30 am by road from neighbouring Assam.
Assam minister Jayanta Malla Baruah received the body at the Air Force base in Guwahati around 1 am.
"Receiving the mortal remains of someone who travelled from afar only to return lifeless is an immensely painful experience," he said in a post on X.
"May terrorism end once and for all! I firmly believe that the Government of India will respond to this heinous act without delay," Baruah said.
Senior officials of the Assam government and the Indian Air Force were also present and paid their tributes to the deceased officer.
Ziro-Hapoli MLA Hage Appa, Lower Subansiri deputy commissioner Vivek HP, SP Keni Bagra and heads of government departments, and community-based organisations received the remains of Hailyang at Hapoli check gate at the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
Khandu, along with minister Gabriel D Wangsu, MLA Nakap Nalo, Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, state BJP president Kaling Moyong, and IGP (Law and Order) Chukhu Apa joined thousands of people to pay their last respects.

PM Modi to visit Bihar on Friday, projects worth over Rs 7,000 crore to be launched

PATNA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in Bihar on Friday when he is scheduled to address a public rally in East Champaran district, besides launching development projects worth over Rs 7,000 crore. Tight security measures are in place at Gandhi Maidan in Motihari town, the district headquarters, where Modi is expected to reach in the forenoon and share the stage with Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and a number of Union ministers. Corner Modi Over Trump's Claim, Pahalgam and Bihar Voter List Row: Cong's Monsoon Session Strategy "All arrangements have been made for the public at the venue of the rally, which is expected to attract around five lakh people," East Champaran District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal said. "People are likely to come from far-off places. As such, parking arrangements have been made for as many as 10,000 buses. The public will be allowed entry into the gigantic canopy through 12 gates, two of which are specially for women," the DM added. Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat said that more than 10,000 police personnel have been deployed in the town. They will ensure proper law and order and traffic, under the supervision of 10 IPS officers and 50 officials of the Deputy SP rank, he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo "The entry into the canopy will be allowed from 6 am, and all entry points will be sealed after 9 am, over an hour in advance of the PM's scheduled time of arrival," he said. State BJP president Dilip Jaiswal said this will be the PM's 53rd visit to the state, "which shows that Bihar is high on Modi's list of priorities". The development projects launched by him will give a boost to NDA ahead of assembly polls due in just a few months, he said. Of the development projects to be launched, those relating to Railways would be worth Rs 5,385 crore. According to a statement issued by the Railways, these include doubling of the 256-km Darbhanga-Narkatiaganj at Rs 4,079 crore, and Darbhanga-Thalwara and Samastipur-Rambhadrapur lines at Rs 585 crore. Four Amrit Bharat Express trains, all passing through the state and two connecting Bihar with Delhi, will also be flagged by the Prime Minister on the occasion. In addition, road and highways projects worth Rs 1,173 crore will be launched by Modi, who will also give away Rs 162 crore to 40,000 beneficiaries of the PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) and extend "Rs 400 crore community funding" for 61,500 self-help groups. Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly Tejashwi Yadav, said, "Tomorrow, when the PM will be in Bihar, we hope he will have a few words for soaring crime rate in the state." "In every rally on Bihar's soil, Modi makes it a point to cry hoarse about return of 'jungle raj' if the RJD-led coalition comes to power. He should acknowledge that 'jungle raj' has already arrived. In fact, it has been there during the 20 years the state has been under NDA rule," Yadav alleged. Congress spokesperson Ragini Nayak said that the people of Bihar have been fed up with the "antics of the Prime Minister" during his innumerable visits. "They still remember the rhetorical flourish with which he had pledged Rs 1.25 lakh crore assistance to the state way back in 2015. Nothing came of it," he added. "We would also like to remind the PM of his promise to the people of Motihari, in 2014, that upon assuming power, he would get the area's sick sugar mills revived and enjoy tea sweetened with local produce. The people of Motihari will serve him tea tomorrow, but it will be bland, like his own unfulfilled promises," the Congress leader said. Nayak also alleged that "booth capturing" has given way to "voters' list capturing" as the special intensive revision was being undertaken in the state by the Election Commission "to steal the assembly polls in favour of the BJP".

1.67cr homes to get 125 units of free power: CM

1 2 Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced that the state govt will provide 125 units of free electricity to 1.67 crore domestic consumers from Aug 1. He added that financial assistance will be extended to poor and eligible households opting to install solar panels under the Centre's PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The announcement was made through the CM's official social media handle. "We have decided that all domestic power consumers will get 125 units of free electricity from Aug 1 this year. That is, they will not have to pay for 125 units of electricity from the bill of July. It will benefit 1.67 crore families in the state," Nitish said. The initiative is expected to increase the state's subsidy burden, which already stands at Rs 15,995 crore for the current financial year. The provision of free power will add several thousand crores to the state's expenditure. To mitigate the financial impact, the govt plans to promote solar energy use under both the Bihar Kutir Jyoti Yojana and the PM Surya Ghar scheme, which provides a 50% central subsidy for the installation of rooftop solar panels and associated equipment. Explaining the plan further, Nitish said, "We have also decided that the consent of these domestic power consumers will be taken for installing solar panels on the rooftops of their houses, or on nearby public land, to give them the benefit of solar energy." He added, "Under the Kutir Jyoti Yojana, the govt will bear the cost of installing solar energy equipment for extremely poor families and the govt will also provide proper financial assistance to the remaining ones." Highlighting the long-term energy goals, the CM said, "As a result of this, the domestic consumers will not have to bear the cost of 125 units of electricity and in tune with the same as much as 10,000MW of solar energy will be available in the next three years." Currently, the state provides a power subsidy to all domestic and several other categories of consumers. The new policy will build on that support, while gradually shifting towards sustainable and decentralised energy sources. While political comparisons have been made in the past regarding free electricity promises, the CM, in his statement, refrained from responding to any such proposals made by opposition leaders. He reiterated that Bihar has historically aimed to provide affordable electricity rather than making it entirely free. "Right from the beginning, we have been making electricity available to all at cheaper rates," Nitish said, maintaining that the current decision aims to balance affordability with sustainability.
