The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday launched a massive greening campaign to mark World Environment Day, aiming to increase the state's green cover from 29 to 50 percent.As part of the initiative, the government rolled out 'Vana Mahotsav (forest festival)' and 'End Plastic Pollution' drive, with plans to plant one crore saplings statewide today."Currently, Andhra Pradesh's green cover is over 30.05 percent, combining 22.96 percent recorded forest area and 7.09 percent trees outside forests. Officials aim to add over 32,000 sq km to reach 50 percent cover," said a press release.Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan launched the programme at the state level. District and grassroots events also began simultaneously across constituencies and institutions.A total of 5.58 crore saplings will be planted during 2025 on 1.8 lakh hectares aiming to achieve 37 percent green cover by 2029, increasing 1.5 percent annually.Between 2025 and 2030, the government departments will plant over 9.87 lakh hectares, the Forest and Horticulture departments will play a central role, backed by line departments and local agencies, said the release.Each District's Collector will coordinate efforts, supported by a senior IAS/IFS officer while the Nodal officers will monitor implementation under the 'Mission Haritha Andhra Pradesh' banner.Advanced monitoring will include geo-tagging, drone checks, satellite mapping, and audit-based scoring systems. Real-time dashboards will ensure transparency and public participation in afforestation efforts.

The Cabinet Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, who met on Thursday congratulated Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for the successful release of his film 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu'-Part 1: Sword Vs Spirit. The film explores the origins of the Kohinoor diamond in AP. The film is currently being played across theatres in the Telugu speaking States and internationally. Before the commencement of the e-Cabinet, the Ministers along with Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu appreciated Mr. Pawan Kalyan, who plays the lead role in the film. A Minister said that though the film was not formally discussed in the Cabinet meeting, almost all Ministers personally appreciated Mr. Pawan Kalyan's performance and extended warm greetings on the succesfull release of the movie. The Minister further added that, due to the shortage of the time, the Cabinet postponed some agenda issues for the next Cabinet meeting. There was no political discussions during the entire meeting.

‘Hari Hara Veera Mallu' opens to fan frenzy

Fans erupted in celebration as 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu', starring Deputy Chief Minister and Jana Sena Party (JSP) President K. Pawan Kalyan, hit theatres on Thursday. The movie marks his return to the big screen after more than two years, the movie premiere drew overwhelming crowds, despite increased ticket prices. Enthusiastic fans flocked to cinema theatres across Visakhapatnam city to witness the premier shows, which began screening from late on Wednesday night. Celebrations broke out at multiple venues, with fans bursting firecrackers and performing 'abhishekam' on posters and large cut-outs of their beloved star. At Jagadamba Theatre, a giant cut-out of Pawan Kalyan was unveiled. Social media platforms were flooded with selfies and videos, especially from women fans, capturing their excitement. As Pawan Kalyan appeared on screen, theatres turned into festive grounds, with fans throwing 'pieces of coloured papers', dancing and even climbing onto the podiums in sheer euphoria. Many fans shared their status on social media with pictures of PK, and captioned it 'long time no see,' marking the actor's cinematic comeback. On Friday, screenings will begin as early as 7 a.m. Single-screen theatres are running up to five shows a day, while multiplexes have scheduled upto 10 to 15 screenings daily through the weekend. In Visakhapatnam alone, over 180 shows are scheduled for Friday, all of which have sold out in advance, with similar demand expected to continue on Saturday and Sunday. Adding to the celebratory mood, JSP leaders and supporters organised bike rallies and prayer ceremonies at temples, for the film's success. Local MLAs, including Panchakarla Ramesh Babu, Sundarapu Vijay Kumar, and Ch Vamsikrishna Srinivas, actively participated in these events. So far, the film has received mixed reactions. While many fans praised Pawan Kalyan's presence and energy in the first half, they felt the second half could have been tighter. They background score was widely appriciated. 'Our Power Star's powerful entry, high-octane fight sequences and the first half have been spectacular. VFX and the second half of the movie could have been better,' said K. Krishna, who works in the city police department and is a hardcore fan of PK.
