Woman uncovers 30-year-old 'family secret' after taking DNA test 'for fun'
A millennial woman who opted to take a DNA test just for a laugh has issued a warning to others not to do it if they can't "handle" the potential outcomes. Kate, who shares her experiences on TikTok under the handle @juust_kate, revealed that the DNA test "changed her life forever," explaining she was "born in France to Portuguese parents, but she always had an obsession with Ancient Egypt.
As an adult, she eventually visited Egypt and "fell even more in love with the country, the culture, the food, the people, everything". After the trip, she was "curious" to take a DNA test because she was puzzled why when she told people she was Portuguese, nobody would believe her. People would even suggest to her that they thought she was "more Middle Eastern, Lebanese, Moroccan, Tunisian, Greek," rather than Portuguese.
She said it was "always on her mind" and was making her "frustrated" because, aside from all these comments, she's also the "only brunette" in her family. All her siblings are "blonde and have blue eyes," and burn in the sun compared to her, who tans, so she was baffled. Her mum even used to call her "little Cleopatra" when she was growing up.
So in 2019, "out of curiosity," she took the test and waited "about six weeks for the results". But when she got the results back, her life was turned upside down forever. The DNA results revealed that she was 58.4 per cent Egyptian, 22.9 per cent Portuguese, 14.1 per cent South Italian, and 4.6 per cent Algerian."
This was not what I expected," Kate admitted, having anticipated an 85 per cent Portuguese heritage with the remainder being North African. Upon discussing the DNA test results with her mother, she received a somewhat vague response, with her mum stating they are "all children of the world," and are "all connected".
When asked if there was any additional information, Kate replied in the negative, leading to her mum falling silent and the topic not being broached again. However, in 2022, while Kate was doing her nails, she received a mysterious message from a woman claiming to know her father, leading to some unexpected revelations from her mother. In a separate TikTok post, Kate revealed: "Suddenly, I found out that I had been lied to about my paternity for my entire existence, and that life was about to change forever."
"My biological father was someone from Egypt who had already passed away before everything came to light. "Suddenly, she found herself mourning a man she would never meet, a situation she described as the hardest pill to swallow, leaving her lost in heartbreak and confusion. Despite the pain, she shared that she'd gained "a beautiful new family" and "three amazing siblings in Egypt," whom Kate expressed deep affection for. She expressed that they're "not strangers anymore" and are "making up for lost time" when she has the opportunity to visit.

'I want to say goodbye properly to each and every player, technical staff and working person at our base camp.' Estevao's emotional departure was also a huge signal to Maresca and the Chelsea dressing room that they are getting a gem - and one close, potentially ready, to adorn the team. Enzo told the 19-year-old: 'We'll make history together' while fellow Brazilian new boy Joao Pedro hugged him and said: "This is your new home, little brother.' Delap offered a warm and enthusiastic handshake, Christopher Nkunku, Essugo and Caicedo pushed him gently and messed with his hair, before Brazilian Andrey Santos greeted him in their native tongue and spent a minute locked in an embrace of friendship. There was a final, parting, conversation with Palmeiras coach Abel Ferreira in a quiet hallway. Ferreira said: 'You're leaving through the big door. 'But now it's time to close cycles and believe in your future.'
