CF Montreal acquires goalkeeper Thomas Gillier on loan from Bologna
CF Montreal acquired Chilean goalkeeper Thomas Gillier on loan from Bologna FC until the end of the season on Tuesday.
The deal includes an option to extend the loan through the 2026 season. Gillier will be eligible to play starting July 24, when the secondary transfer window opens.
Gillier did not play a match for Bologna after joining the club on July 2.
The 21-year-old made his professional debut with Chilean top-flight side Club Deportivo Universidad Católica on Feb. 23, 2024, recording six clean sheets in 20 games that year.
Internationally, Gillier has three caps with Chile's under-20 team.
Gillier joins 'keepers Jonathan Sirois, Sebastian Breza and Emil Gazdov on Montreal's roster.
CF Montreal owner Joey Saputo also owns Bologna FC.

Sask. bull rider achieves top score for second straight day at Calgary Stampede
A bull rider from Leader, Sask. has been dominating the competition as the Calgary Stampede passes its halfway point. Grady Young, 19, achieved the top score of 87 on Tuesday riding a bull named 'Shake It Off,' which qualified him for Sunday's final. On Monday, he scored a career high of 91 riding a bull named 'Splash Tide,' which was also the top score of the day. Over two days of competition, Young has won a total of $14,400. The deal runs through the end of the 2025 season and includes an option to extend the loan through 2026. Gillier, 21, recently joined Bologna after making 26 appearances for Universidad Catolica in his native Chile. 'We are delighted to welcome Thomas to the club,' Montreal managing director Luca Saputo said. 'He is a young goalkeeper with a lot of potential who will add quality to the squad. We are convinced that he will integrate quickly into the group and bring healthy competition between our goalkeepers.' Montreal and Bologna are both owned by Joey Saputo, facilitating player movement between the two clubs. Gillier will be eligible to play when the MLS Secondary Transfer Window opens on July 24.
