Dubai: 300 labourers get free umbrellas, tips on preventing sunstroke
Called the 'shade and reward' initiative, it was held at Al Eyas Police Point, by the Dubai Police Positive Spirit Council. Workers received tips on preventing sunstroke, the importance of staying hydrated and following essential safety guidelines.
Authorities also briefed labourers about their legal rights and the services available through Dubai Police.
As temperatures continue to soar, the public in UAE can also volunteer to hand out free ice creams and juices to workers, through the Al Freej Fridge initiative.
The country also implemented a midday ban in effect from June 15 to September 15, which prohibits outdoor work under direct sunlight from 12.30pm to 3pm daily.

As the weekend kicks off in the UAE, residents can expect fair to partly cloudy skies on Saturday, August 2, as per the daily weather forecast issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM). However, there will be a chance of some convective cloud formation eastward and southward, associated with rainfall in some parts of the country. Temperatures will reach a high of 45°C and 47°C in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, respectively. On Friday, the mercury rose to a sweltering record of 51.8°C in Al Ain's Sweihan as peak summer heat intensified. Residents are urged to avoid direct sunlight and drink a lot of water as the hottest phase of summer is expected to end on August 10. Conditions will turn humid by night and Sunday morning over some western coastal and internal areas, with a probability of fog or mist formation. Light to moderate southeasterly to northeasterly winds are expected, freshening at times during daytime, causing blowing dust, with a speed of 10 to 25kmph, reaching 40kmph. Watch: Hail, rain lash some parts of UAE while others endure sweltering heat
While temperatures have hit a high of 51.8 in the UAE today, residents in some parts of the country have been enjoying the respite of sudden showers, and even hail. The NCM sent out an alert on Friday afternoon, and rain chasers have been sharing videos of heavy showers, wet roads in Al Ain. UAE's National Centre of Meterology sent out orange and yellow alerts for Al Ain and surrounding areas, warning residents of heavy showers and hazardous weather conditions if they choose to step outdoors. #Rain#NCM — اÙÙرÙز اÙÙØ·ÙÙ ÙÙأرصاد (@ncmuae) August 1, 2025 Abu Dhabi too sent out a warning, urging residents to take note of bad weather and be prepared accordingly. "Abu Dhabi Civil Defence urges caution due to fluctuating rainy weather conditions, and calls on everyone to take precautions during rainfall and avoid areas with flowing wadis and water accumulation," they said in a post on X. Rain chasers in the country have shared videos of hail in parts of Al Ain. Some videos showed heavy showers on Al Hair Nahel road, north of Al Ain. UAE temperatures rose to its highest level so far this year on Friday, August 1, with the mercury soaring to a sweltering 51.8°C, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said. The mercury rose to this record threshold in Al Ain's Sweihan at 3pm, it added. Long before summer peaked in the UAE, temperatures soared to a scorching 51.6°C on May 24 also in the desert region of Sweihan, which is known for its hot, hyper‑arid climate.

UAE weather: Temperatures hit 51.8°C after dust alert issued
A yellow alert was issued due to high levels of dust as temperatures approached 52°C in parts of the UAE on Friday. The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) issued the dust warning for large areas of the north-east until 7pm. The weather centre said temperatures peaked at 51.8°C in town of Sweihan in Al Ain at 3pm. The mercury surpassed 50°C in four other areas of the country on a scorching afternoon, NCM figures revealed. The sizzling conditions are nothing new for Sweihan, which once claimed the mantle of the hottest place on Earth after temperatures reached the same 51.8°C on June 6, 2021. Al Ain and Gasyoura were among locations experiencing 49°C heat earlier in the day. Abu Dhabi was expected to hit 45°C on Friday, with 46°C in Dubai. Similar temperatures are forecast across the country over the weekend. Despite the heat, rain is predicted over the weekend, particularly in the south-east. The highest temperature in the UAE this week was 50°C in Owtaid in the Al Dhafra region of Abu Dhabi on Monday, according to the NCM centre. This year has also brought the hottest April and May on record. Climate change along with other factors such as El Nino ending have played a significant role, experts say.
