Kharif crops sowing this season may exceed last year's level: ICRA
Aided by favourable monsoon, kharif sowing has been completed on 76 per cent of the normal sown area and is up by a rise of four per cent year-on-year as of July 2025, ICRA said in its latest report.
Kolkata, Aug 2 (PTI) Research firm ICRA said that kharif crops sowing this season may exceed the level of last year by a reasonable margin.
The IMD forecast of above-normal rainfall during August and September augurs well for the continued sowing of kharif crops, and the replenishment of reservoirs will favour the sowing during the rabi season from October to March, the report said.
According to the ICRA report, India received above-normal rainfall during July 2025.
The quantum of rainfall during the entire Southwest Monsoon season is estimated to exceed 106 per cent of the long period average (LPA), the report also said.
ICRA estimates the gross value added (GVA) growth of agriculture, forestry and fishing during the first quarter of 2025-26 to be around 4.5 per cent.
Also growth in real rural wages increased to four per cent in May 2025 from zero levels in January 2025. This will help in boosting rural consumption demand, the report said. PTI dc SBN SBN

Seamless administrative support to industries can help overcome global economic challenges: Fadnavis
Speaking at a two-day administrative conference at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Nagpur, Fadnavis on Saturday said, 'If we provide seamless administrative support to our industries, we can overcome any international economic challenge.' He said that the state government will soon implement key reforms aimed at providing citizens with efficient and responsive governance. The United States on Friday slapped a 25 per cent tariff on India, potentially impacting about half of the USD 86 billion Indian exports to America. Nagpur, Aug 3 (PTI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed confidence about overcoming global trade barriers, including the 25 per cent tariff imposed by the United States, saying seamless administrative support to industries can help deal with international economic challenges. Six committees comprising divisional commissioners and senior officers have submitted reform-oriented recommendations following extensive deliberations held earlier this year, he said. 'These committees have identified essential changes required in the administrative machinery. The recommendations, backed by detailed analysis and draft government resolutions, will be implemented immediately to enhance the delivery of public services,' he said. Fadnavis also assured that recruitment for appointments on compassionate grounds will be completed in 150 days, and no such post will remain vacant. He emphasised the need to revamp the District Annual Planning system, pointing out that it should not merely serve as an employment scheme but should become a tool for large-scale job creation and development. 'District collectors have been recommended to be empowered to allocate up to five per cent of the total plan fund for local developmental works under their jurisdiction,' he said. Godrej Properties on track to meet or exceed FY26 sales target: CEO
Godrej Properties is on track to meet or even exceed ₹32,500 crore sales bookings target for this fiscal as housing demand continues to be strong, its executive Chairperson Pirojsha Godrej said. In an interview with PTI, he noted that the exuberance seen in the housing market post-COVID has calmed down, but the demand condition is still pretty strong. In the first quarter of this fiscal, Godrej Properties Ltd reported an 18 per cent decline in its pre-sales or sales bookings to ₹7,082 crore. Pirojsha attributed the decline in pre-sales to high base effect and also a slight delay in launch of couple of projects. Nevertheless, he said, "We are very much on track to meet or exceed our booking value target for the current 2025-26 financial year". The company's launch pipeline for this fiscal is quite heavy, which will help in meeting the pre-sales target of ₹32,500 crore easily, said Pirojsha. Asked about the overall current housing market scenario considering global uncertainties, he said, "I think definitely, the kind of very exuberant market that was there may be a year ago has definitely settled down a little bit. But this is exactly what we would expect to see.". In the first few years of upcycle, Pirojsha mentioned that there is always a huge pent-up demand and sharp price appreciations. "But I would say demand conditions still very strong, but not that kind of frothy looking demand that you see sometimes. So, I would say things have calmed down a little bit, but remain very, very positive," he observed. Many property consultants have reported a decline in the total housing sales across the top seven cities in the last two quarters. Pirojsha highlighted that the company's balance sheet is very strong, enabling it to make investments in land acquisition and development of projects for ensuring targeted growth of the overall business. During the last two financial years, Godrej Properties was the country's largest real estate firm in terms of sales bookings. The company is likely to retain its top rank for the third consecutive fiscal year if it achieves the sales bookings target of Rs 32,500 crore. During the 2024-25 fiscal year, the company's sales booking rose 31 per cent to a record ₹29,444 crore from ₹22,527 crore in the preceding year. On the financial front, Godrej Properties recently reported a 15 per cent increase in its consolidated net profit to Rs 598.40 crore for the first quarter of this fiscal as against Rs 518.8 crore in the year-ago period. Total income, however, fell to Rs 1,620.34 crore in the April-June period of 2025-26 fiscal against Rs 1,699.48 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding year. Godrej Properties' sales booking or pre-sales declined 18 per cent to Rs 7,082 crores during the April-June quarter from Rs 8,637 crore in the year-ago period. The collection of funds from customers against bookings rose 22 per cent to Rs 3,670 crore during the April-June quarter. Godrje Properties has a significant presence in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), Pune, Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR and Hyderabad where it is developing group housing projects. The company is doing residential plotted development projects in many tier II cities, like Indore and Panipat. The Mumbai-based firm posted a net profit of Rs 1,389.23 crore on a total income of Rs 6,967.05 crore during the last financial year.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad in 2 hours! India's first bullet train service to commence soon, says rail minister Ashwini Vaisnaw
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on August 3 confirmed that India's first bullet train is on track for launch soon, according to a PTI report. Speaking after he virtually flagged off the Ayodhya Express, Rewa-Pune Express, and Jabalpur-Raipur Express from Bhavnagar, he stated that the Mumbai-Ahemedabad bullet train, which will cut the journey between the two cities to two hours and seven minutes, will 'commence very soon'. India's first bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad will span 508 kilometres. It will start from the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) area in Mumbai, and connect to Gujarat's Vapi, Surat, Anand, Vadodara and Ahmedabad, running at a high speed of 320 km per hour. 'The first bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will start very soon, and the work on the project is going on at a fast pace. When it starts running, the journey from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will take only two hours and seven minutes,' Vaishnaw said. The minister also sahred details of the upcoming railway projects in Gujarat, including a new train between Porbandar and Rajkot, a ₹ 135-crore coach maintenance facility at Ranavav station, a railway flyover in Porbandar city, two Gati Shakti cargo terminals, and a container terminal at an upcoming port in Bhavnagar. Besides these, he added that there are several new projects in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, and praised the 'double-engine government' in these states making projects progress rapidly. 'In 11 years of the Narendra Modi government, 34,000 km of new railway tracks have been laid, with almost 12 km of new tracks built in the country daily. Around 1,300 railway stations are being redeveloped in the country, which is something that has never been done before. No one has undertaken such a big work to date. When railway stations are renovated in developed countries, they are done systematically by closing down all stations and trains,' Vaishnaw added. He also gave an update on the trains introduced by the Modi government — Vande Bharat Express, Amrit Bharat Express, and Namo Bharat Express. 'Eight Amrit Bharat trains have been launched so far. They have features like Vande Bharat trains, but the fare is low. These trains have been constructed using new-age technology, and you will be surprised to hear the emotions expressed by passengers using these trains,' he said.
