When Aberdeen last won the Scottish Cup in 1990, I was on a bus embarking on a school trip to Germany, listening to it all unfold on my pocket radio.So being at the celebrations really hammered home how long – too long – it has been since the club last won this trophy, and what it means to the city.The Dons fans lined the streets in their thousands - well into the tens of thousands, in fact - as the open-topped bus weaved its way through the city centre.They were in fine voice too, with 'Shinnie, he is one of our own' and the now trademark 'Shady Mo' song being among the choruses belted out as the bus crawled through the throng which filled the granite streets.Prior to the final, there was a mood of trepidation, and very little expectation among the Red Army.What a difference a day can make – this was a scene of jubilation and celebration.It was a fitting reception for the Aberdeen players and staff, who now have their names etched in to the club's history books.As they took it in turns to hold the trophy aloft from the balcony at the Town House at the Castlegate end of Union Street, each lift was greeted with delirious joy.Of course, the challenge will be to build on this success.But this was about savouring the moment, one which saw a city and its football team united as one.

Arteta is a huge fan of Sesko and is extremely keen on a move but there has been no contact between the clubs yet, the report adds. Sesko potentially dangled his strongest hint yet that he is interested in the Gunners. Arsenal fans may be encouraged to learn that Sesko has followed the club on Instagram. It is by no means confirmation of a move, but it at least indicates that Sesko - or whoever is managing his account - is interested in the north Londoners. Meanwhile, Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta reportedly favours Viktor Gyökeres because he has proven his quality for longer. Berta wants to make five signings but has a wide range of potential targets if their principal ambitions don't come off. Gyokeres would cost around £65m and is still desperate for a move to the Premier League following a stunning season where he scored 53 goals and added 13 assists in 52 games for Sporting. However, there are reservations at the Emirates over whether he will be able to translate that form to the Premier League.

Former Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran is reportedly set to leave Al-Nassr on loan. The 21-year-old joined the Saudi Pro League club late in January, with Villa cashing in £64.5million for a player who had netted 20 goals in the previous 18 months. Duran, who has since scored 12 goals in 18 games for Al-Nassr, has now agreed to join Fenerbahce on a season-long loan, according to Foot Mercato. The French publication claims that Fenerbahce have agreed to offer Duran an enormous salary in excess of what Al-Nassr have been paying him. If that is true then Duran will likely be among the highest-paid players in European football next season. As reported by Capology, Duran signed a five-and-a-half year contract worth slightly more than £335,000 per week when he signed for Al Nassr in January. Duran has just completed his 21st week as an Al-Nassr player, meaning he is so far estimated to have earned well in excess of £7m in Riyadh. That is around four and a half times what he would have banked had he remained at Villa on his previous weekly wage in the region of £75,000. Duran played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo as Al-Nassr ended the 2024-25 season third in the Saudi Pro League, 13 points behind champions Al-Ittihad. Ronaldo's first Al-Nassr contract was due to expire at the end of this month, but he recently penned a new deal tying him to the club for a further two years. That deal is said to be worth a staggering £488,000 per day. Al-Nassr — backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, which also owns Newcastle United — are one of the richest clubs in world football. Nevertheless, it has been suggested that Duran's move to Fenerbahce could be part of a cost-cutting exercise to help fund Ronaldo's remarkable new salary. Fenerbahce finished second in the Turkish Super Lig last season for the fourth year in a row.
