Govt. working to clear 85 lakh tonnes of legacy garbage in State, says Municipal Administration Minister Narayana
'Nearly 45 lakh tonnes of garbage has been cleared so far, and another 35 lakh tonnes will be cleared in the next three months,' Mr. Narayana said on Saturday.
The Minister was speaking after inspecting the Ramapuram dump in Tirupati. AP Greening and Beautification Corporation (APG&BC) Chairman M. Sugunamma, Yadav Corporation Chairman Narasimha Yadav and municipal officials were present.
Mr. Narayana said the department was committed to providing minimum facilities to the people. He said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu was a visionary leader. He had constituted the Swachh Andhra Corporation in 2014-19. Many programmes had been implemented under the Swachh Andhra programme. Equipment was also given to the municipalities, but the previous YSRCP government had put them aside, he alleged.
He further said that the previous government had left a legacy garbage of 85 lakh tonnes and a debt burden of ₹10 lakh crore. 'Mr. Naidu had on October 2, 2024, announced that the entire garbage would be cleared in one year. To achieve the target, several meetings and cleanliness drives have been held. Many companies have come forward to clear the garbage,' the Minister said.
In Tirupati, a company called Zigma came forward to clear 900 tonnes of legacy garbage per day, he said. 'The municipalities are clearing 2,700 tonnes per day, which is less than the quantity they need to clear daily. As there is no power connection, the company is working on a generator to clear the waste,' Mr. Narayana said.

Andhra Pradesh notifies capital region land pooling scheme rules, 2025
AMARAVATI : The Andhra Pradesh government on Tuesday notified the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Land Pooling Scheme (Formulation and Implementation) Rules, 2025, which will govern the unique method of pooling land for building the greenfield capital city of Amaravati. S Suresh Kumar, principal secretary to the government, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, said these rules shall apply to the 'capital region' except the 'capital city area' which will continue to be governed by the Andhra Pradesh Capital City Land Pooling Scheme (Formulation and Implementation) Rules, 2015. "In keeping with the will of the Government to build 'People's Capital' and for building the necessary concomitant infrastructural projects like airports, ports and all other necessary projects, the procurement mechanism of the land has been designed to be a voluntary scheme," said Kumar in a government order (GO). It is based on mutual consensus between the landowners and the state/authority, said Kumar, adding that this is a unique method of procurement of land, which is named and styled as 'Land Pooling Scheme'. The 'Land Pooling Scheme' rules come at a time when the government is planning to turn greenfield capital city Amaravati into a 'mega city' by combining adjacent Mangalagiri, Tadepalli, Guntur, and Vijayawada with Amaravati. This endeavour aims to pool an additional 40,000 acres of land, besides the 54,000 acres of land on which the government is already sitting for Amaravati. The government is planning to build an international airport in Amaravati. The 'Land Pooling Scheme' has been designed for developing the Capital Region wherein the land parcels owned by individual farmers and owners or group of owners are consolidated by the authority under a development scheme, he said. According to Kumar, the 'Land Pooling Scheme' is a better scheme formulated by the Andhra Pradesh State Legislature owing to the mandate enabled under Sections 107 and 108 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. "The broad objective of the scheme is to do justice to the families affected by the construction of a Livable and Sustainable Capital Region for the State of Andhra Pradesh and also to the farmers and land owners in the Capital Region and also to make them avail a better compensation and also with a view to make them Partners in the State Development Process," said the principal secretary. It is designed in such a manner that the participant land owners are fairly compensated with the allotment of the reconstituted plot along with the developed infrastructure, among other benefits, said Kumar.

CPI strongly opposes handing over Horsley Hills to Ramdev Baba
The Communist Party of India (CPI) National Secretary Dr. Narayana has strongly objected to the Andhra Pradesh government's alleged decision to hand over the iconic Horsley Hills in Madanapalle to Ramdev Baba and his Patanjali group. In a letter to the Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday, Dr.. Narayana expressed serious objection, calling Patanjali a symbol of unethical corporate interests. 'Ramdev Baba is a corporate swami in disguise. Handing over a natural treasure like Horsley Hills to someone like him under the pretext of tourism and yoga development is unacceptable,' he said. Dr. Narayana said: 'It would have been more appropriate to entrust such a culturally rich site to the Jiddu Krishnamurti Foundation, which has long-standing philosophical roots in the region. Ramdev Baba should not be allowed entry into Andhra Pradesh,' he added, accusing the yoga guru of pursuing profit under the garb of spirituality. Meanwhile, CPI Andhra Pradesh State Secretary K. Ramakrishna criticised Mr. Naidu for pushing the Polavaram–Banakacharla project without completing the long-pending irrigation projects like the Velugonda tunnel. He said: 'The central government has already rejected the Banakacharla proposals, yet the state is going ahead with it unilaterally. This exposes the CM's questionable priorities.' Mr. Ramakrishna demanded clarity and transparency from the state government regarding the project and warned against sacrificing public interest for corporate or contractor gains. He reiterated that the CPI stands firmly against both the commercialisation of natural resources like Horsley Hills and the politicised handling of irrigation projects at the cost of people's welfare.
