New Saudi App Lets Pilgrims Show Hajj Permits Digitally
The latest service via the Tawakkalna app is linked to the unified digital platform for Hajj permits, the 'Tasreeh' (permits) which has recently been launched by the Saudi Ministry of Interior in partnership with the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority.
The Tawakkalna service facilitates the review of all types of Hajj permits issued by the Saudi government agencies that authorize holders, domestic and overseas pilgrims alike, to enter Mecca and the other holy places. The service is technically integrated with the Ministry of Hajj via the 'Nusuk' platform. These permits include permits for Hajj season workers, permits for volunteers in all Hajj-related activities, and permits for the vehicles transporting them.
Saudi authorities are enforcing stringent measures to keep undocumented pilgrims at bay and have instituted hefty penalties including heavy fines against violators and collaborators.
Around 1.8 million pilgrims, including 1.6 million from abroad, performed last year's Hajj. Muslims who are physically and financially able must perform Hajj at least once in their lifetime.

From Mecca To Medina: Saudi Arabia Recreates The Prophet's Migration For Visitors
Saudi Arabia will welcome 300,000 visitors this November for an unprecedented cultural and spiritual experience tracing Prophet Mohammed's (PBUH) historic migration route from Mecca to Medina. The ambitious project, 'In the Prophet's Steps,' has already attracted over one million registrations globally, with 300,000 selected for the inaugural season by the General Entertainment Authority (GEA). GEA Chairman Turki Al Sheikh said the overwhelming response reflects the deep global interest in this immersive initiative, which aims to bring to life one of the most significant events in Islamic history. Using advanced technology, the project reconstructs the 470-kilometre Hijrah route, 305 kilometres of which are walkable, allowing visitors to follow the Prophet's footsteps through restored landscapes and historical sites. Forty-one landmarks along the route have been rehabilitated, supported by eight stations and five interactive hubs narrating key moments of the migration. A dedicated Migration Museum will further enrich visitors' understanding. To enhance the overall experience, the route includes 30 restaurants and 50 shops, with capacity to host up to 12,000 visitors per day. 'This project is a testament to our leadership's commitment to preserving Islamic heritage,' said Turki Al Sheikh. 'It offers an opportunity to explore the landmarks of the Hijrah and reflect on its enduring lessons.' Interest has been especially strong in Indonesia, with international rollouts planned for Malaysia, Turkey, and India. By 2030, the initiative aims to welcome five million visitors annually. To ensure comfort and safety along the rugged terrain, specially designed 4×4 vehicles will transport visitors, while new technology has reduced the journey to the Cave of Thawr—a key Hijrah site—from a strenuous two-hour climb to just three minutes. Combining historical authenticity, immersive storytelling, and modern amenities, In the Prophet's Steps offers a deeply moving and accessible experience of the Prophet's migration, illuminating its profound spiritual and human values for a global audience.

Saudi Arabia Grants Extra 30 Days for Visit Visa
Saudi authorities have extended the grace period for visit visa holders who have overstayed, granting them an additional 30 days to leave the country, the General Directorate of Passports announced. The extension, which applies to all categories of visit visas, took effect on Sunday, July 27, and is conditional on the payment of any outstanding fines and fees in line with Saudi regulations. In a statement, the directorate said that eligible individuals can request departure through the 'Tawasul' service on the Ministry of Interior's digital 'Absher' platform. Officials urged visitors to make use of the extended window to arrange their departure within the specified timeframe and avoid further penalties. The initiative, first introduced in June, aims to streamline exit procedures and promote compliance with the kingdom's residency and immigration rules. Under the policy, which came into effect on June 26, overstayers were granted a 30-day grace period to settle fines and administrative fees before leaving the country, regardless of the type or classification of their visa. The latest extension is part of Saudi Arabia's broader effort to regulate residency and ensure smoother departure processes for visitors who remain in the kingdom beyond their visa validity. Saudi Arabia: 25 Hospitality Facilities Shut Down In Makkah Over Licensing And Safety Violations
The Ministry of Tourism has closed 25 hospitality establishments in Makkah during July as part of intensified inspection campaigns to ensure regulatory compliance in the holy city, the ministry announced Thursday. The closures followed the discovery of several violations, including operating without a valid license, poor maintenance and cleanliness standards, and breaches related to guest safety. The inspections are part of the ministry's ongoing efforts to verify that hospitality facilities meet all approved requirements and hold the necessary permits to operate. The initiative aligns with the ministry's broader objective to enhance service quality for visitors and pilgrims during the busy Umrah and Hajj seasons. The ministry emphasized the importance of all facilities adhering to Saudi Arabia's tourism regulations and executive bylaws. It warned that penalties for non-compliance could include fines of up to SR1 million, closure orders, or both. It also reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing these rules to improve service standards, safeguard guests, and uphold the reputation of Makkah as a premier religious tourism destination.
