Siblings found dead in Dilshad Garden flat, both MBAs and reclusive
The deceased were identified as Viresh Kumar and Preeti Tomar, who were residents of Baghpat. Both were MBA graduates. Viresh worked in the IT sector. The police are investigating possible motives, including financial difficulties and depression.
Police received a PCR call around 8.21am, and a team rushed to the spot, which was a flat on the ground floor in D Pocket, Dilshad Garden. "The flat was found locked from inside, and on opening, the bodies of the two were found.
They were tenants in the flat since 2021," deputy commissioner of police (Shahdara) Prashant Priya Gautam said. They lived in a one room set, paying around Rs 1,4000 as rent.
The crime and forensic teams went to the spot. The crime scene was videographed. The DCP said they had not found any foul play yet. The owner of the flat said the duo kept to themselves. "They never interacted with anyone in the society, so most people didn't know much about them," the landlord said.
He added that they were always paid the rent on time, except for the previous month. "The last time I spoke to him was regarding the rent. He said his sister wasn't well, so I told him not to worry and to pay whenever he could," the landlord said.
On Sunday morning, some neighbours smelled a strong odour. "When we reached and checked, it was unbearable. That's when the police were called," he said.
Police are in contact with the family of the deceased.
Ashok Singh, a neighbour, described them as reclusive and lacking a social circle. "I once went to invite them to my brother's wedding a few years ago, but they didn't even open the door," he said. He occasionally saw the sister cooking, but otherwise, the siblings kept to themselves.
"The place where the incident took place was a LIG flat, and in the locality, more than 10 families live," he said. Their cousin, Vijay Tomar, shared that their father, who served in the army, passed away in 2011, followed by their mother in 2021 — both due to illness.
The siblings moved from their native village in Baghpat to Delhi, initially living in Jhilmil Colony. "We made an effort to reach out, but they never responded," he said.
Tomar mentioned that both were academically gifted and held MBA degrees. "I remember he was working at an IT company in 2020 but lost his job during the pandemic. I'm not sure if he found work afterward," he added. Family members tried to stay in touch, even inviting them to a wedding last year, but they declined. Relatives had also suggested matches for Preeti, but she said she wasn't interested, focusing instead on her studies.
"They cut themselves off from everyone. If they were facing difficulties, they could have spoken to us," he said.

Thief hangs off moving train after snatching phone, jumps off as passengers beat him: WATCH
A dramatic incident aboard the Bhagalpur-Muzaffarpur Janseva Intercity Express near Bihar's Munger has gone viral after a thief, allegedly fleeing with a stolen phone, was caught on camera hanging from the footboard of a moving train before leaping off mid-journey. The scene unfolded when the man – seen in the video wearing a torn T-shirt, a jeans, holding a shirt in his hand, and injured – snatched a passenger's phone and tried to escape. With no route to flee, he latched onto the train's footboard, desperately holding on as the train sped ahead. The video also shows passengers hurling abuses at him, and some even striking him with a belt as he dangled dangerously from the footboard. In a desperate plea, the thief is seen warning the men attacking him that he would drag them down if they didn't back off. He eventually slips lower, and finally flings himself into bushes near the track. The entire episode, filmed by a fellow passenger, quickly went viral, sparking widespread outrage and debate. Jamalpur Railway SP Raman Chaudhary told Aaj Tak, 'We are looking into the incident and trying to identify the individual seen in the video.' 😡 — 𝙼𝚛 𝚃𝚢𝚊𝚐𝚒 (@mktyaggi) July 25, 2025 The video, which has garnered over five lakh views on X, has ignited a fierce conversation online. Some users expressed empathy for the man, while others condemned the soft-hearted takes. One commenter said, 'Now people will sympathize with the thief but have you ever felt when your belongings get stolen, expensive phones, watch, money and many more not once but on a daily basis, his fate was decided.' Another wrote, 'Koi insaan pura mahine mehnat karke 12000 ka mobile buy karta hai, aur aese log ek jhatke me chura lete hai. Jab inke ander koi manwata nahi toh inke prati bhi kisi ko koi samvedna nahi rakhni chahiye.' (When someone works hard all month to buy a phone worth Rs 12,000 and such people snatch it in a second, if they show no humanity, they deserve no sympathy either.) However, not everyone took a hardline stance. 'Both are wrong—when someone's hard-earned money is stolen, only they know the pain. But there is a legal system for justice. No one should take the law into their own hands. In such cases, the thief's life could also be at risk,' another user said.

ED attaches Rs. 15.47 crore property of Delta Ltd in money laundering case
Kolkata, July 26 (UNI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has attached immovable properties worth Rs 15.47 crore belonging to Delta Ltd and others in connection with a money laundering case. The ED has also submitted a final charge sheet July 24 in a special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata against the company and 7 others, agency officials said. The central anti-laundering money agency began its probe on the basis of an FIR registered at Hare Street Police Station, Kolkata, following a directive from Calcutta High Court on writ petitions alleging non-payment of statutory dues, such as Provident Fund (PF), despite regular salary deductions. The FIR was lodged against Delta Ltd and others for alleged criminal conspiracy, cheating, and misappropriation of workers' Provident Fund deductions. The ED's investigation revealed that nearly 800 workers of the company and its associated entities were cheated through the misuse of their PF fund trust (Delta Jute & Industries Ltd Worker's Provident Fund Trust). The company had been granted exemption under the Employees Provident Funds (EPF) Act, allowing it to manage PF money through its own trust. This trust was intended to operate and ensure proper investment of employees' PF funds. However, in violation of the mandate, employees were appointed as trustees instead of professionals or fund managers. These employees acted solely under management's directions and had no real decision making power. Due to continuous violations and financial losses, the exemption was revoked in 2014. Despite this, and even after ongoing court proceedings, the company continued deducting PF from workers' salaries but failed to deposit it with either the trust or PF authorities, the ED said. "The money was wrongfully retained as the company deliberately avoided depositing the statutory contributions deducted from employees," the ED noted. According to the agency, the withheld amounts were subsequently laundered and used for non-permitted purposes, including loan repayment, meeting business expenses, and property transactions. The total Proceeds of Crime (POC) in the case amount to Rs.15.47 crore. "The attachment of full POC in the form of immovable properties has been done and a final prosecution complaint has been filed," the ED added. UNI PC AAB

MP High Court Slams Caste-Like Structure In Judiciary: 'District Judges Treated As Shudras'
Last Updated: The court also noted that fear and subordination are deeply embedded in the relationship between the two levels of the judiciary. The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Friday sharply criticised what it described as a caste-based and feudal mindset within the state judiciary, likening the structural relationship between high court and district judges to that of 'savarn" and 'shudras". The court also noted that fear and subordination are deeply embedded in the relationship between the two levels of the judiciary. 'At a subliminal level, the penumbra of the caste system manifests in the judicial structure in this state where those in the High Court are the savarn and the shudras are the les misérables of the District Judiciary," the order stated. A division bench of Justices Atul Sreedharan and DK Paliwal noted that the judicial hierarchy reflects caste-like divisions, with high court judges perceived as privileged and district judges relegated to inferior status. The comments came while quashing the 2015 dismissal of special court judge Jagat Mohan Chaturvedi, who was removed from service for granting bail in a case. The bench found no material evidence of misconduct or corruption against him and directed the state to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation for the damage to his reputation. The court observed that incidents of district judges being made to personally attend to high court judges at railway stations or being denied a seat in official meetings reflect a colonial hangover and a persistent culture of entitlement. 'The dismal relationship between the judges of the High Court and the judges of the District Judiciary is one between a feudal lord and serf," the bench said. It further stated that such power dynamics contribute to a backlog of bail applications and appeals, as district judges often function in fear of being penalised for their judicial decisions. The judgment underlined the psychological burden carried by the lower judiciary, stating: 'The subjugation and enslavement of the psyche of the judges of the district judiciary is complete and irreversible, so it seems." The court also restored Chaturvedi's pensionary benefits and ordered payment of back wages with 7 per cent interest from the date of dismissal to the date he would have superannuated. The order must be implemented within 90 days, failing which the petitioner may seek contempt action. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
