Pilot issues 'Fuel Mayday' as IndiGo flight diverted to Bengaluru due to Chennai congestion
Though the Mayday call was linked to the flight running low on fuel, it did send jitters among regular air travellers. Sources said that the flight was not carrying the required amount of diversion fuel, the minimum amount of fuel an aircraft must carry to safely divert to an alternate destination in case it cannot land at its intended destination.
Speaking to TNIE, an IndiGo spokesperson confirmed, 'The Mayday was Fuel Mayday; a fuel-related call, not caused by any emergency. It is a standard procedure to request landing priority when fuel levels reach a certain low limit.'
The flight, 6E-6764, which departed Guwahati at 4:40 p.m., was originally scheduled to land at Chennai Airport at 7:40 p.m. However, due to congestion and delayed landing clearance at Chennai, the aircraft was diverted to Bengaluru. While approaching KIA, the pilot issued a Fuel Mayday to Air Traffic Control (ATC) to ensure priority landing.
The flight landed safely at Bengaluru at 8:15 p.m. All 168 passengers were safely deboarded and provided with refreshments during the stopover.
IndiGo confirmed that the aircraft resumed its journey after a delay of two hours and assured that at no point was passenger safety at risk.

First exports from BBP: Four Asian elephants head to Japan
The Bannerughatta Biological Park (BBP), Bengaluru, is all set to make its first export in its history of animal exchanges. A batch of four Asian elephants - one male and three females - will be sent to Himeji Central Park - Safari Park, Himeji, Japan. Suresh, 8, Gowri, 9, Shruthi, 7, and Tulsi, 5, are being sent after the park got the necessary approvals from the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi and other departments, said the BBP in a release. 'The exchange is a part of a larger multi exchange programme, where in return, the park will receive four cheetahs, four jaguars, four pumas, three chimpanzees and eight black-capped capuchins. The elephants will be transported through a Qatar Airways cargo plane from Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru to Kansai International Airport, Osaka on July 24 and 25. The total transportation time will be around approximately 20 hours from Bannerughatta Biological Park to Himeji Central Park - Safari Park,' the release added. The park said that the animals have been are trained for the past six months for this transportation and are cleared for good health to make the journey. The animals will be accompanied by two veterinary doctors from Himeji Central Park and two veterinary officers from Bannerughatta Biological Park, four keepers, one supervisor and one biologist from Bannerughatta Biological Park. A total of eight persons from Bannerughatta Biological Park will visit and stay at the Himeji Central Park for two weeks to train the elephants to acclimatise to the new environment, the release added. 'Further, elephant keepers of Himeji Central Park were also trained in Bannerughatta Biological Park for around 20 days from May 12 to 25, 2025. All the preparations for logistics, feed and veterinary care are in readiness to take up this historic journey. The addition of Asian Elephants to Himeji Central Park - Safari Park is a great opportunity for the people of Japan to visit the park and appreciate the gentle giants for their charisma and intelligence,' the release added. Deputy Conservator of Forests and Executive Director, Bannerughatta Biological Park, told The Hindu that every country has its own management practices and animal welfare guidelines and the Japanese are well advanced and have a different set of practices wherein animals are trained without physical intervention. This will be the second batch of exchange of elephants to Japan after three elephants were sent to Toyohashi Zoo and Botanical Park, Japan in May 2021 from Mysuru Zoo.

Ahmedabad-Diu IndiGo Flight Aborts Take-Off Due To Technical Snag
Ahmedabad: A Diu-bound IndiGo flight from Ahmedabad carrying around 50 passengers and crew members aborted take-off at the last minute on Wednesday due to a technical issue, sources said. As per the schedule, the flight was supposed to depart around 11.15 am from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, they said. The aircraft was in the take-off roll phase when the pilot decided to stop it on the runway. "A technical snag indication was noticed just before the take-off on IndiGo flight 6E7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on July 23," IndiGo said in a statement. Following the standard operating procedure, the pilots informed the authorities and returned the aircraft to bay, it said. The aircraft will undergo necessary checks and maintenance before resuming operations, it said. The airline also said it will accommodate the passengers in the next available flight or will provide a full refund against cancellation, as per their preference. An airport official said the IndiGo flight was cancelled due to some technical issues. "When the aircraft began its take-off roll, the pilots took a decision to stop it due to some technical reasons," a source said. All the 50-odd passengers and crew members are safe, he said. This is the third incident involving an IndiGo aircraft in the last few days. On July 21, an IndiGo flight from Goa with 140 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Madhya Pradesh's Indore due to a landing gear issue. Prior to that on July 17, a Goa-bound IndiGo flight from Delhi made an emergency landing in Mumbai after being diverted to it due to a mid-air engine failure. The flight was being operated with an Airbus A320neo aircraft. On June 12, an Air India flight to London Gatwick crashed within seconds of its take-off from the Ahmedabad airport, killing 241 of the 242 passengers and crew members on board and 19 persons on ground.
