'There is a bomb on the flight': Tissue note causes major scare on Air India flight; airline responds

"There is a bomb on the flight," -- the handwritten note on a piece of tissue paper triggered severe fright aboard an Air India flight on Friday. The crew member who discovered the note raised a major security scare; however, upon investigation, it was found to be a hoax. A major security scare unfolded in the early hours of Friday after a bomb threat was reported on an Air India flight stationed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport. Around 4:00 am, a crew member onboard discovered a threatening message scribbled on a tissue paper. The note read: "There is a bomb on the Air India flight." Following the discovery of the note, an extensive search operation was initiated. Security teams carried out a thorough investigation and rigorous checks to ensure the safety of passengers and assess the credibility of the threat. Authorities later confirmed that the bomb threat was a "hoax." The threat was reported at Terminal 3 of the airport, which handles several international flights, prompting a swift emergency response. An investigation is currently underway to identify the source of the threat. 'A non-specific security alert was detected on one of our aircraft. Standard security procedures were duly carried out, and the aircraft has been cleared for the next flight. Air India accords top priority to the safety and security of its passengers and crew,' the airline said in a statement. Just over a week ago, a Delhi-bound IndiGo flight originating from Kochi made an emergency landing in Nagpur following a bomb threat. The aircraft, which had arrived from Muscat, departed for Delhi at 9:31 am carrying 157 passengers and six crew members. A similar incident occurred in February last year, when a bomb threat was received at Delhi airport for a Kolkata-bound flight before departure. That too was later confirmed to be a hoax after thorough checks. In another instance, in October last year, more than 250 flights across India were disrupted due to a series of hoax bomb threats. Monsoon deals spark travel boom as tourists head back to Indian hotspots

Tourism sees strong revival as airlines, hotels and travel platforms roll out monsoon deals to tap into pent-up demand, with bookings rising sharply across key Indian destinations New Delhi After months of global unrest and domestic tensions in popular tourist spots like Kashmir, travel demand that was once held back is now bouncing back. Travel platforms, airlines, and hotels are rushing in with monsoon offers to make the most of this typically quiet travel season, according to a report by The Economic Times. Earlier this year, travel enthusiasts skipped their holiday plans due to safety concerns in destinations like Kashmir and broader geopolitical uncertainties. But now, that pent-up demand is spilling into the monsoon months, giving a much-needed push to off-season travel. 'Flight bookings have surged 25-30 per cent year-on-year for certain destinations,' said travel platform ixigo, as quoted by the report. Airlines, hotels roll out monsoon offers India's largest airline, IndiGo, launched a monsoon sale between June 24 and 29, with special fares on select domestic and international routes, depending on seat availability. The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), owned by the Tata Group, also introduced monsoon deals for popular beach destinations like Goa and Kerala. The news report quoted Ranjit Phillipose, Senior Vice-President - Operations, IHC at Goa, said that his hotels in Goa are seeing 85 per cent occupancy through the end of this month, although the average daily rates are slightly lower than last year. Budget airlines join the rainy rush FLY91, a Goa-based budget airline, has also joined the trend. After the state government announced new steps to attract tourists during the off-season, the airline rolled out discounted fares. These cover routes connecting Goa with Hyderabad, Jalgaon, Agatti, Pune, Sindhudurg, and Solapur. Travel industry poised for massive growth A new report from the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) suggests the global leisure travel industry is on track for huge growth. The report estimates that the market will expand from $5 trillion currently to $15 trillion by 2040, Business Standard had reported. Interestingly, the next wave of travellers is expected to come not from the US or Europe, but from emerging markets like India, China, Vietnam, and Saudi Arabia, according to a survey of nearly 5,000 travellers across 11 countries. Andaman aims for more blue flag beaches As monsoon travel gains momentum with airlines and hotels offering special deals, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are also stepping up efforts to draw travellers — this time by focusing on sustainability. To give a fresh push to beach tourism, the island administration is working to expand Blue Flag certifications beyond the already recognised Radhanagar Beach at Swaraj Dweep (Havelock Island), a senior official told news agency PTI. The Blue Flag tag is an international eco-label awarded to beaches that meet strict standards of cleanliness, safety, environmental management, and accessibility. In India, only 12 beaches currently hold this certification, which is granted by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), a non-profit group based in Denmark.

No visitor pass, sr citizen fakes ticket to enter airport

1 2 3 Kolkata: In absence of visitor passes at Kolkata airport, which have been suspended since Covid, an elderly man was apprehended at airport after the staff found that he entered the terminal using a fake air ticket to bid farewell to his son and daughter-in-law, who were leaving for Bangkok. The accused, a resident of Madurdaha off Bypass, admitted that his son helped him make the fake ticket for an IndiGo flight to Bangkok with a fake PNR, with which he entered the terminal, fooling the CISF personnel at the entrance gate along a non-DigiYatra gate. He bid farewell to the couple and was apprehended when he tried to leave the airport premises through a departure gate around 6 pm. As per rule, one cannot exit the terminal from departure gate. The CISF personnel took the elderly man to the IndiGo international counter. On verification, staff found inconsistencies in his ticket and alerted airport authorities, who in turn called cops. However, the cops haven't arrested the man. We are probing further to determine the extent of the offence and the role of his son in readying the forged document," said a senior officer of Bidhannagar City Police. Suspension of visitor entry passes at airport has significantly inconvenienced travellers and their families. According to travellers, having family members present during flight delays or sudden changes offers not only mental support but also helps in spending time at airport more comfortably. Airport management stated that restriction on visitor passes was implemented following directives from BCAS (Bureau of Civil Aviation Security), which oversees airport security nationwide. Officials said the decision that was initially enforced after the pandemic for security reasons has now become permanent. According to airport sources, approximately 1,000 visitor passes were issued daily, generating around Rs 60,000 in revenue each day. This not only led to income for the airport but also offered significant convenience to travellers. An official said that during festivals, Independence Day, Republic Day, and similar occasions when a red alert was sounded for security reasons, the visitor pass service was temporarily halted. It has now been completely discontinued, causing inconvenience to public. Serious allegations of bias have emerged as some travellers claim that while ordinary individuals are denied visitor entry, netas and their supporters are readily granted access. A traveller said, "We have noticed that some special individuals still receive visitor passes. If security is the reason, then why not have the same rule for everyone?"
