Strong second half showing sees Muskerry into Premier SHC Divisional/Colleges semis
A strong second half display saw Muskerry advance to the Divisional/Colleges seeded section of the Co-Op SuperStores Cork Premier SHC at the expense of Carbery at Ovens on Tuesday evening.
Diarmuid Kirwan's team will now meet UCC in the last four of the seeded section.
There were only three points in it at half-time, with the eventual winners having their noses in front before they pushed on after the break in what was an impressive team performance in the second period.
In a sluggish start, Muskerry did start positively with a goal after just 30 seconds when David Casey finished beautifully to the back of the net following a driving run.
The sides traded early points in a game dominated by poor shooting. Liam Hourihane hit a great point for Carbery as they trailed by two points after eight minutes but a Shane Tarrant effort did settle Muskerry after a nervy start.
A pair of Caolan O'Donovan points, one from a free, left Carbery a point adrift, but they were too reliant on him to get scores throughout.
Muskerry put together three unanswered white flags with Mark O'Connell's effort the pick of the scores, 1-5 to 0-4 after 20 minutes.
Carbery then scored three points on the trot of their own with O'Donovan slotting over two frees and a Shane Crowley effort.
Muskerry did get the last two scores of the half through Adam Dinan and Tarrant, 1-7 to 0-7 at half-time.
The Mid-Cork division were beginning to assert their dominance as they slotted over four of the first five points of the new half.

O'Donovan was excellent for Carbery, very accurate from frees, as he landed another placed ball, 1-11 to 0-9 with 20 minutes remaining.
Muskerry though were playing all the hurling as they were starting to show their quality. They hit two of the next three white flags before scoring two goals in the space of 50 seconds to put the game to bed.
Bradley and Casey scoring the goals, with the first one eye catching after James Lane gave a great ball to the Aghabullogue marksman, 3-13 to 0-10 after 46 minutes.
To Carbery's credit, they kept going right to the end as the players represented their clubs and division proudly. They landed five of the last eight points as they finished the game strongly even if the encounter had long slipped away from them.
Paudie Crowley and Ciarán Dullea with two excellent scores for the West Cork outfit. It is the end of the road for them this year though as Muskerry march on.

Carrigaline have 'big belief' but must focus on first day out, insists Chris O'Herlihy
2023 saw the fall of Carrigaline from the top-table of Cork club football. 2024 would be the year of their climb. Their demotion to Senior A at the end of '23 came about after a replay loss to Mallow, but only a few months later, a Division 1 league crown was harvested by beating Nemo Rangers. From there, the desire to get back up playing Premier Senior at the first opportunity was evident. And on they marched. Their nail-biting dispatch of Kanturk on penalties in the semi-final gave them a shot at putting right what went wrong a year earlier, and they booked their immediate return to the top grade with a two-point win over Knocknagree in the decider. "It was a very special year," said Carrigaline's Chris O'Herlihy. "We had a very good league campaign which set us up nicely for the senior A championship. "It was a very tough competition as well, so we were just glad to get over the line there." While - on paper - the league didn't go according to plan for the Carrigdhoun outfit in 2025, O'Herlihy insists some factors played into that. The integration of youth has been a positive aspect of the campaign, too. We were down and few players and we had a few injuries along the way, but we definitely took a few learnings, and a lot of young players came through. We're happy with where we're at now." O'Herlihy and his Michael Meaney-managed Carrigaline side won't have it easy on their mission to make an impression on their return to Premier Senior level. A group containing Carbery Rangers, Clonakilty and St Finbarr's awaits. "We're going to try and build on last year, we have a very good test this weekend against Carbery (Rangers)," said defender O'Herlihy. "We'll just focus on that, hopefully get a result and push on from there. "If you lose the first game, you're under serious pressure straight away. That's been our big focus really, the first game. All the team are very good, Carbery (Rangers) will be a very tough test." Eyes fixed on an extended run into the latter stages of the competition? O'Herlihy insists they can't afford to take their vision off the here and now. "We have big belief in ourselves, but we haven't been looking that far ahead. We're just focused on the group, focused on the first game. We'll move onto Clon from there." The 2024 league final win was significant for the club as a whole, but particularly for one debutant. Cork senior footballer Brian O'Driscoll - having transferred from West Cork outfit Tadgh MacCarthaigh - made his Carrigaline bow that day. The West Cork native has had a major impact on the camp. "He was huge for us last year, not just the way he was playing, but his professionalism and experience definitely added a lot to us. "It was a huge help to us last year, competing in Senior A and getting over the line in the end, so it's great to have him," O'Herlihy concluded.

Kilshannig in no mood to halt momentum on return to senior ranks
It's the back end of 2022. Kilshannig are hunting an ever-elusive football and hurling double. The Glantane club defeated Aghabullogue in October '22 to secure a spot in the Premier Intermediate football ranks and would come ever so close to securing that elusive double weeks later. Although their Junior A hurlers fell just short of county honours – losing out to Erin's Own after a replay and extra-time - momentum played a key role in all they achieved three years ago. That week-on-week grind of big ball and small ball drove both sides to county glory in one code, and the cusp of the same in the other. They've done so by securing their second county title in three seasons, and their third in six. A meteoric rise. Wind in their blue and gold sails. That's what you call momentum. 2024's football success came with no shortage of drama, after being forced to battle with old dance partners Aghabullogue over two days to earn their spot back in senior football. For Colm O'Shea, who was man of the match and hoisted the cup at Supervalu Páirc Uí Chaoimh alongside Éanna O'Hanlon last November, that momentum is something they will feed off when they meet Newmarket in their SAFC opener on Saturday night. "Going back the years, in 2022, we went a long way in the hurling and won the football, but definitely, that year, we were feeding off the momentum in both codes, which really helped,' defender O'Shea said. "We try and do that every year, try and build momentum from both codes. It does help and if we can get off the mark on Saturday, it would be huge. "The first game is huge for every team; it takes a small bit of pressure off. You're not home and hosed yet but it definitely takes a bit of pressure off." Newmarket, O'Shea assures us, is all Kilshannig are thinking about in the here and now. But this is no easy group. Éire Óg, relegated from the senior ranks last year, and Kanturk, beaten on penalties by eventual winners Carrigaline at the last-four stage, await in the weeks to come. "We're looking forward to it. We're just going to take it game-by-game and see how we go,' O'Shea said. 'We know it's going to be a tough battle, we know there will be no easy game at any stage this year. "It's a tough group; there'll be no easy games. They're big names, but we're looking forward to playing them teams; that's who you want to be playing. 'You want to be playing the top teams, and here we are now, thrown into the middle of it, so yeah, really looking forward to it."

First-half goal burst earns Duhallow Divisions/Colleges SFC honours
Divisions/Colleges SFC final: Duhallow 4-9 Muskerry 0-13 Duhallow struck three goals before half-time and never once loosened their grip on a final that offered Muskerry little comfort and fewer chances. Their 4-9 to 0-13 win in Ballydesmond on Tuesday evening delivered a Divisions/Colleges SFC title, and a path to the Cork PSFC quarter-final. By the time Luke Murphy had clipped over his third point inside six minutes, and Donncha O'Connor added a 45 soon after, Duhallow were well in the groove. Two more from Murphy pushed the gap out to 0-6 to 0-1 by the quarter-hour. Muskerry responded through a Liam O'Connor free and another from Chris Óg Jones, but Duhallow had found their rhythm — and soon found the net. The first goal came after 23 minutes, Darragh Cashman bursting through from wing-back and drilling low to the net. The Cork senior finished with 1-1. Muskerry pulled one back but were immediately hit again — this time a flowing team move involving Hickey, O'Connor and Conor O'Callaghan finished off by Gerry O'Sullivan. Muskerry's second point from play arrived close to half-time, but they were rocked again before the break when Jack Curtin smashed home a third Duhallow goal. The first score after the restart came on 42 minutes, as Chris Óg Jones was set up by Ian Jones, but Duhallow responded instantly via Donncha O'Connor. Even after Seamus Hickey was shown a black card, Muskerry couldn't capitalise, managing just one point while Duhallow, again, found an answer. Darragh O'Leary did produce a superb two-pointer late on, and Liam O'Connor added another from a tight angle in the 64th minute – but any hope of a comeback was dashed almost immediately. From the resulting restart, Hickey led a rapid counter and teed up Murphy, who finished with power to bag Duhallow's fourth goal and seal a commanding win.
