Caitlin Clark leaves Fever victory with groin injury ahead of All-Star Game

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark sustained a groin injury late in Tuesday's 85-77 road win over the Connecticut Sun, Fever coach Stephanie White said after the game. Clark exited the contest with less than a minute left.
'(She) just felt a little something in her groin,' White said. 'So, we'll get it evaluated and see what happens from there.'

White said Clark was being evaluated Tuesday night and would be evaluated again Wednesday morning ahead of the Fever's road game against the New York Liberty.
'(We'll) see where we are, but this group has played without her,' White said. 'At least we've got experience in that. We know that we have a tough opponent in New York. We know that it's gonna be a challenge no matter what, and we just gotta get locked in and ready to work.'

Clark previously missed four games this year due to a left groin strain, but it's worth noting she grabbed her right groin Tuesday. The 23-year-old has also missed five games with a left quad injury. Indiana is 4-5 without Clark in the lineup. Before this season, Clark had never missed a game in her college or pro career.
Clark suffered her latest injury while throwing a backdoor bounce pass to teammate Kelsey Mitchell, who scored a layup with 39.1 seconds left in the game. After the play, the Sun called a timeout and Clark grimaced and grabbed her right groin. She walked down the court and banged her head off the stanchion underneath the basket on the other end in frustration. Clark eventually made her way to the bench and put a towel over her head.
Veteran reserve guard Sydney Colson subbed in for Clark, who finished with 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting. She also had seven assists and eight rebounds.
In addition to Wednesday's game at New York, Clark's availability is also uncertain for WNBA All-Star weekend, which will be held at the Fever's home arena, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, in Indianapolis. The league announced Tuesday that Clark would compete in the 3-point contest on Friday for the first time, and she's scheduled to make her second consecutive start in the All-Star Game on Saturday.
Clark is averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 13 games this season. If she is sidelined for a while, fellow All-Star Mitchell, backup point guard Aari McDonald and Colson will likely shoulder more of the team's ball-handling duties.

Caitlin Clark Gets Clear Nod From LSU Star

Caitlin Clark Gets Clear Nod From LSU Star originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Caitlin Clark and Flau'jae Johnson are two of the biggest names in women's basketball. Clark is now in her second WNBA season with the Indiana Fever. Johnson, meanwhile, remains in college, playing under head coach Kim Mulkey at LSU. While Johnson and Clark have different playing styles, that hasn't stopped Johnson from studying Clark's game and learning from the former Iowa star. On a recent episode of the 'Club Shay Shay' podcast hosted by NFL Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe, Johnson shared her admiration for Clark and gave her a strong vote of respect. 'I have respect for Caitlin because she's like the biggest doing it,' Johnson said. 'When somebody like that is in your field, you've got to study them. She's like the biggest doing it.' Johnson also reflected on their brief interactions and the impact Clark had on her. 'We end up being competitors, but she was cool,' Johnson said. 'She's real genuine, but like I told you, I like to learn from everybody.' Clark has been dealing with injuries throughout her second season with the Fever. She has appeared in 13 games so far, averaging 16.5 points per game. She suffered a groin injury during a win over Connecticut on Tuesday and missed the following game against New York. As for Johnson, she'll enter her fourth season at LSU this fall. She has played in 106 career games and averages 14.8 points per contest. Most recently, she represented Team USA at the 2025 FIBA Women's AmeriCup and helped capture the gold medal. Johnson was also part of the LSU team that defeated Clark and Iowa in the 2023 NCAA tournament title game. That squad featured both Johnson and Angel Reese, and their win over Clark's Hawkeyes helped launch LSU into the national spotlight. Shane Gillis ESPYs monologue: Comedian's best jokes about Shedeur Sanders, Donald Trump, more at sports award show

The ESPYs are the biggest sports award show that isn't focused on just one sport. They're basically the Oscars, but all about sports. Similar to the Oscars, a host is tasked with presenting an opening monologue that introduces everyone to the show and then guides the program through the rest of the night. Previous hosts have included high-profile athletes and actors. The 2024 show was hosted by Serena Williams, while comedian Tracy Morgan hosted the 2019 ESPYs. The 2025 ESPYs were hosted by comedian Shane Gillis, who's known for his stand-up comedy career as well as the TV show "Tires," a comedy series starring Gillis as a mechanic. The second season premiered on June 5 of this year, and it has been picked up for a third season. Gillis has been known to push the envelope with his comedy, and his ESPYs monologue was no exception. 📲 Follow The Sporting News on WhatsApp Here are the best jokes from Gillis' monologue to open the 2025 ESPYs. Shane Gillis ESPYs monologue The tough part about hosting an award show is that the host has to give a monologue. Later in the night, the show is carried by the award results and guest presenters. There are also usually sketches to entertain the crowd and keep the vibe light. The host, though, has to start the show with a monologue. Gillis is known for his edgy humor and wouldn't be considered politically correct. He mixed in jokes about athletes in the crowd, along with political humor that included a Trump impersonation. Some of his jokes landed, many didn't. Gillis saved face, joking that the crowd wasn't into his commentary and that they should have cut some of the jokes. Shane Gillis' best jokes Gillis was all over the place in his monologue. He took shots at Shedeur Sanders, Aaron Rodgers, Jake Paul, and Megan Rapinoe. While it doesn't seem like he landed with the audience with every joke, he had some pretty good commentary mixed in. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Gillis started his monologue by pointing out some athletes in the crowd. He called out SGA and added, "And now, everyone sitting around him is in foul trouble." Donald Trump Gillis is known to have a great Trump impersonation. He brought up the President the first time in his monologue by talking about how he wants to host a UFC fight on the White House lawn. Gillis followed that up with, "The last time he staged a fight in DC, Mike Pence almost died." Later on in his monologue, Gillis came back to Trump. "Can we stop pretending that Donald Trump knows ball? He doesn't know anything about sports. Every time a team comes to visit the White House, he's like (in a perfect Trump impression), "And you must be the guy who catches. Look at these guys, big guys." Simone Biles "Simone Biles is 4-8 and has seven gold medals. She's short and has a lot of gold. When she isn't competing, she leads a quiet life at the base of a rainbow." Gillis then added, "If you tell Simone a riddle, and she can't answer it, she has to give you all of her gold medals." Aaron Rodgers "Aaron Rodgers did not take the vaccine because he predicted it would be bad for him. And then he joined the New York Jets." Shedeur Sanders "Shedeur Sanders had his jersey number retired at Colorado this year, and people are saying it was because of nepotism because of his father. And it's not. It's because he went 13-12 over his career and almost won the Alamo Bowl." Caitlin Clark "Caitlin Clark and I have a lot in common. We're both whites from the Midwest who have nailed a bunch of 3s." Gillis had another about her, saying, "When Caitlin Clark retires from the WNBA, she's going to work at a Waffle House, so she can continue doing what she loves most, fist fighting black women." Shohei Ohtani "Shohei Ohtani couldn't make it tonight. Man, I hope his interpreter didn't bet that he was going to be here." Gillis added, "Shohei is a once-in-a-generation talent; no one has been able to do what he does at so many positions — pitcher, hitter, and bookie." Bill Belichick Right after the second Ohtani line, Gillis went right into, "a bookie is what Bill Belichick reads his girlfriend before bedtime." Gillis started listing off fake book titles that the couple would read together and included, "The Little Engine That needed a pill first." Jake Paul "Sugar Ray [Leonard], you're the man. But in 10 years, Jake Paul is going to try to knock you out, so take it easy." Travis Hunter Gillis took inspiration from the late comedian Norm MacDonald for his final monologue joke of the night, who delivered a variation of this joke when he hosted in 1998. "Travis Hunter won the Heisman Trophy this year. He is the first defensive player since Charles Woodson to win the Heisman. Congratulations, Travis Hunter, winning the Heisman is something they can never take away from you — unless you kill your wife and a waiter, in which case, they can take it away from you."

📈 Pep Biel writes himself into Charlotte lore with brace vs D.C. United

Charlotte FC are edging closer to a huge three-point haul against visiting D.C. United tonight as the Crown lead 2-1 with ten minutes remaining at Bank of America Stadium.A brace from star man Pep Biel is the highlight of the evening against the legacy club, adding to his total goal contributions tally across what has been another impressive MLS campaign from the Spanish midfielder. Despite so much talk surrounding the likes of Lionel Messi, Evander, and Anders Dreyer regarding the MVP conversation, Biel certainly deserves consideration, and setting a historic marker for Charlotte tonight goes a long way in padding that narrative. With his two-goal effort in front of home support, Biel has become the first-ever player in Charlotte history to hit seven goal contributions in a four-match stretch across some brilliant recent form in the second half of the 2025 season. Should the Crown press forward in the Eastern Conference, Biel could be in line for more than just club accolades.
