A Pune-based information technology (IT) union has filed a complaint with the Ministry of Labour and Employment against Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), alleging an indefinite delay in the onboarding of over 600 lateral hiresAccording to the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate ( NITES ), these are experienced professionals from cities including Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi, who resigned from their previous organizations after receiving confirmed offer letters and joining dates from TCS.'With experience ranging from 2 to 18 years, these individuals were contributing members of their former organizations and had looked forward to continuing their professional journey with a trusted name like TCS. Unfortunately, upon reporting to the company on their designated joining dates, they were informed of an indefinite delay in onboarding. No official communication, revised schedule, or assurance has been provided since. These individuals are now unemployed, struggling with household responsibilities, EMIs, rent, and basic livelihood needs,' the complaint dated July 22, 2025 reads, as seen by ETHRWorld.In response, TCS said, 'We can confirm that, as always, TCS is committed to honour all offers we have made, whether it is to freshers or experienced professionals. Everyone who has received an offer from TCS, will be onboarded. The joining dates are decided as per business demand and in some cases, they do get adjusted to meet our business needs. We remain in continuous touch with all candidates in these cases and look forward to them joining our company soon.'NITES has requested the Labour Ministry to intervene and direct TCS to provide an official, time-bound commitment on the onboarding timeline for the affected professionals.It has also requested to 'extend access to the company's Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to support affected individuals' mental health; and explore alternate suitable positions for these professionals within the organization'.'NITES believes such corporate practices are deeply unjust and unethical. They violate the principles of fair employment and place workers in vulnerable situations through no fault of their own. We are committed to standing by these employees and ensuring that their voices are heard,' said Harpreet Singh Saluja, President, NITES.ETHRWorld had earlier reported that NITES had also raised concerns over TCS's newly implemented bench policy . Following complaints from around 78 employees, the union argued that while the policy appears to promote resource optimization, it disproportionately burdens associates upon closer scrutiny.ETHRWorld has reached out to TCS for comment on this matter and will update the story as and when the company responds.

In fact, Unitree Robotics' latest humanoid robot, called the R1, costs even less than the MG Comet EV. That's how serious the Chinese robotics firm seems to be about popularising the mass adoption of humanoid robots. In a video posted on the social media platform X, the R1 humanoid robot is seen performing a cartwheel, walking on its 'hands,' throwing a punch, lying down and then standing back up, and running down a hill, showcasing how advanced the humanoid robot is. The robot weighs around 25 kg, stands about four feet tall, and is equipped with a Large Multimodal Model to handle complex tasks. The R1 also features an ultra-wide view and a four-microphone array to help it recognize voices and images and supports Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity. The R1 is the most affordable humanoid robot on the market. The Hangzhou-based unicorn, located in Zhejiang Province, had earlier launched two humanoids: the G1, which stands 130 cm tall and weighs 35 kg, and the H1, which stands 180 cm tall and weighs 47 kg. They are priced starting at 99,000 yuan ($13,838) and 650,000 yuan ($90,858), respectively. China has hundreds of robotics companies, unlike India, that are developing advanced humanoid robots and competing with US tech firms. While Unitree Robotics' humanoid robot costs just $5,900, the AI community Hugging Face last month unveiled a full-sized, open-source humanoid robot named HopeJR, priced at only $3,000. In the US, billionaire Elon Musk has expressed interest in manufacturing advanced humanoid robots in the future. Tesla's Optimus robot, which is not yet commercially available, could cost under $20,000 if annual production reaches one million units, though final pricing would depend on market demand. He added that it could eventually 'help millions of people,' but its initial applications will be within Tesla's car factories. Humanoid robots are among the finest examples of how artificial intelligence can be deployed to create robots, a vision humans have long imagined, such as performing home chores or working in factories. Companies like Boston Dynamics have worked for years on humanoid robots but have so far produced only prototypes. Currently, robots are already widely deployed in factories. However, in homes and restaurants, the use cases have been limited to robots with simpler abilities, like wheeled delivery bots. Previously, Amazon tried its hand at making a home robot called Astro, a household camera-equipped tablet on wheels but it has so far failed to take off.

BYD India faces roadblocks in India expansion amid political tensions

Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD Co. is facing mounting hurdles in its attempts to expand operations in India, with lingering political tensions and regulatory bottlenecks stalling key business activities, including executive travel and local investments, Bloomberg reports. Since the deadly 2020 border clash between Indian and Chinese soldiers along the Himalayan frontier, relations between the two nations have soured. As a result, Chinese firms such as BYD have struggled to secure visas and work permits for senior personnel. Ketsu Zhang, Managing Director of BYD India, has reportedly been unable to obtain a work permit to return to the company's base in Chennai. Zhang has been operating from Tokyo, managing BYD's interests in Asia, including India, according to sources familiar with the matter. With direct operations in India hampered, BYD has resorted to holding board meetings and key business discussions in neutral territories such as Sri Lanka, Nepal, and even Singapore, sources said. A growing demand in the Indian market Despite the logistical challenges, BYD's vehicles have seen growing traction among Indian buyers. Sales in the first half of 2025 are already nearing the total for all of 2024. However, the company's expansion is limited by its inability to invest locally. The Indian government earlier rejected BYD's $1 billion proposal to establish a joint venture manufacturing plant in India, citing national security concerns. Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal reiterated earlier this year that the Indian government remains cautious about Chinese investments in sensitive sectors, including automotive manufacturing. This stance leaves BYD ineligible for any import tariff concessions tied to local production. Currently, BYD operates an assembly facility in Chennai with an annual capacity of 10,000 to 15,000 units. However, the bulk of its vehicles are imported — making them subject to steep tariffs that can double their cost — and are constrained by local certification and volume restrictions. Earlier this year, an Indian delegation invited to a major BYD dealer conference in Shenzhen had to be reduced after most participants failed to secure travel visas. BYD India declined to comment on these developments. Tesla's foray in India The contrast with US-based Tesla is striking. Tesla recently launched physical showrooms in India and began accepting orders for its Model Y SUV, despite also lacking local manufacturing. Chief Executive Elon Musk met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year, indicating a smoother diplomatic engagement. Tesla faces import duties as high as 110 per cent but has thus far avoided the regulatory and political entanglements stalling BYD's progress. India recently resumed issuing tourist visas to Chinese nationals, signalling a slight thaw in relations. Still, it remains unclear whether broader business-related visa restrictions will be eased or if BYD will be granted a green light to fully tap into one of the world's fastest-growing EV markets. For BYD — which aims to sell 5.5 million vehicles globally this year amid cooling domestic demand in China — access to India remains critical. Yet without local manufacturing capabilities and full market entry, the company faces significant limitations in its South Asian growth strategy.

TCS stock slipped 1.7 per cent to a low of ₹3,082 in intra-day trade on Monday, a day after the company said it would l ay-off 2 per cent or 12,260 employees of its global workforce. The job cuts by India's largest IT services company highlights the extent of challenges faced by technology-sector amid a sluggish global economy, geopolitical tensions and tariff concerns. Globally, Microsoft, IBM, Intel and Meta too have reduced head counts in the calendar year 2025 thus far. READ MORE On the earnings front, earlier this month, TCS reported a 6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) growth in net profit at ₹12,760 crore for Q1FY26 as against ₹12,040 crore in Q1FY25. Revenue from operations increased by 1.3 per cent YoY to ₹63,437 crore. Post the earnings announcement, TCS management remained optimistic overall, but admitted that high single-digit growth in FY26 looks tough. TCS stock performance thus far in 2025 TCS stock has been an under-performer so far in the calendar year 2025. The stock has dropped 22 per cent in the first seven months of the year, slightly more than the sectoral Nifty IT index - which has declined 18.3 per cent. Technical outlook on TCS stock Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Current Price: ₹3,092 Likely Target: ₹2,590 Downside Risk: 16.2% Support: ₹3,100; ₹2,900; ₹2,750 Resistance: ₹3,212; ₹3,388 Following a sharp fall at the counter, TCS stock is now on verge of breaking a key 16-year bullish trend, as per the monthly scale. Historical chart shows that TCS stock has consistently traded above its super trend line support on the monthly scale since the breakout in July 2009. Even during the Covid-19 related panic sell-off, the stock briefly dipped below this key long-term trend line support, but eventually managed to close above the same on a monthly closing basis in March 2020. Today, July 28, 2025, for the first time since March 2020, TCS is once again trading below the monthly trend line support, which stands at ₹3,121. A monthly close below the same shall signal the end of the 16-year bullish run for the stock. The monthly chart further stocks presence of some support around ₹3,100 levels, which is the lower-end of the Bollinger Bands. Break and sustained trade below the same can accentuate the fall at the counter. The next key support for TCS, as per the monthly chart, stands around ₹2,590 levels - the 100-Month Moving Average (100-MMA). This implies a downside risk of around 16.2 per cent from present levels. Intermediate support for the stock can be anticipated around ₹2,900 and ₹2,750 levels. TCS stock is seen trading below the key moving averages on the daily and weekly charts; thus indicating presence of multiple overhead resistances. The near-term bias is likely to remain bearish as long as the stock trades below 3,212 levels; while the key medium-term hurdle stands at 3,388 levels.
