UOB Hong Kong Becomes First Singapore-based Bank to Sign MOU With HKTDC
HONG KONG - July 3, 2025 (NEWMEDIAWIRE) - UOB Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) at the ASEAN Conference 2025 in Singapore, marking a significant milestone in regional collaboration between the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA) and ASEAN. This strategic agreement positions UOB Hong Kong as the first Singapore-based bank to formalise a partnership with HKTDC, reaffirming a shared commitment to advancing sustainable economic development and deepening regional integration.
The MOU was announced by Adaline Zheng, CEO of UOB Hong Kong, and Vivienne Chee, Director of Singapore, HKTDC, witnessed by Gan Kim Yong, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry, Singapore, Teo Siong Seng, Chairman of the Singapore Business Federation, Wee Ee Cheong, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, UOB, and Kwan Ho Leung, Regional Director - Designate, South East Asia and South Asia, HKTDC.
The agreement outlines a robust framework for cooperation, aimed at strengthening regional ties and promoting sustainable growth. Through strategic initiatives, the partnership will enhance connectivity, promote trade, and foster integrated development of markets across the GBA, including Hong Kong, and ASEAN.
The MOU also aims to create job opportunities and empower communities across both regions by supporting enterprise development and deepening regional collaboration. Stonepeak Invests $1.3 Billion In Warburg Pincus-Backed Data Center Operator Princeton Digital

Princeton Digital Group (PDG)—a Singapore-based data center operator backed by U.S. private equity firm Warburg Pincus—said Thursday it has agreed to sell $1.3 billion of its shares to New York-based infrastructure-focused investment firm Stonepeak. The fresh capital injection—which brings to $2.5 billion total funds raised this year, including the $1.2 billion in debt raised in May—will support its expansion across Asia, Princeton Digital said in a statement. 'This milestone investment from Stonepeak is a strong endorsement of PDG's strategy, execution, and sustained value creation,' Rangu Salgame, chairman, CEO and cofounder of PDG said in the statement. Salgame and Varoon Raghavan, the company's chief operating officer, cofounded Princeton Digital in 2017 in partnership with Warburg Pincus. Since then, the company has grown to become one of Asia's biggest data center operators with a total capacity of more than one gigawatts across 20 facilities in China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. PDG also counts the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan and Abu Dhabi's Mubadala among its existing investors. Stonepeak is investing in Princeton Digital to tap into some of the world's fastest growing digital hubs. Data Center capacity across the Asia Pacific will double to 24 gigawatts by 2030, surpassing the projected 18.3 gigawatt capacity in the U.S., according to a recent report by real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield. 'As PDG's largest shareholder, we are excited to welcome a like-minded partner to help propel the company into its next phase of growth, supporting the surging demand for AI and cloud infrastructure across the region,' Ellen Ng, co-head of Asia real estate at Warburg Pincus said. Led by U.S. billionaire Michael Dorell—who has an estimated net worth of $8.5 billion according to Forbes—Stonepeak manages $73 billion in assets. The firm invests in sectors such as transportation and logistics, digital infrastructure, energy, and real estate. 'PDG has established itself as one of the clear leaders among digital infrastructure platforms in the Asia Pacific region,' Andrew Thomas, senior managing director at Stonepeak said. 'The company's track record of execution, top-tier management team, and significant power bank in critical hub markets positions it well to serve the continued demand from hyperscalers and AI-driven platforms in the region.'

China wants to return US trade ties to a state of healthy development
BEIJING (Reuters) -China wants to bring commercial ties with the United States back to a state of healthy and sustainable development, Commerce Minister Wang Wentao said on Friday, calling on the U.S. to behave in a way that befits its major country status. China's trade has strong resilience and momentum, and the country will expand imports as well as exports in its next five-year plan, Wang said at a press conference. The country's policy support for exports has "bucked the trend" amid a complex external environment, Wang said. He characterised the ups and downs in China-U.S. trade relations as having taught both sides that they need each other. "A forced decoupling and severing of supply chains is impossible, and some trade between the two sides is difficult to replace, at least in the short term," he said. "Having weathered many storms, the two sides remain important economic and trade partners to each other," Wang said, adding that the two countries can manage tensions through "equal dialogue and consultations". U.S. President Donald Trump hiked tariffs on Chinese products to over 100% earlier this year, before walking back much of the hefty duties in a trade truce with Beijing reached in May. China has until August 12 to reach a deal with Washington to avoid Trump's reinstating additional import curbs imposed during tit-for-tat tariff exchanges in April and May. The current overall tariff level imposed by the U.S. on China is at a "still high" 53.6%, Wang told the press conference. "There are no winners in a trade war. China does not want a trade war, but it is not afraid of one," he reiterated. "Major countries should act like major countries. They must shoulder their responsibilities," he said, adding that China would not change its stance in protecting its national interests.
