Learner driver caught running away from horror crash that instantly killed mum
This is the moment an uninsured driver fled the scene of a head-on car crash that killed a woman. Khizer Ali ploughed his mum's VW Golf into a Vauxhall Meriva carrying Valerie and David Ayres.
Footage shows him walking away from the scene as the couple lay stricken. As the Mirror reports, Valerie, 65, was instantly killed and David, 70, suffered life-changing injuries. He was airlifted to hospital on the day of the crash.
Footage captured Ali looking shaken by the side of the road in a grey sweatshirt and jogging bottoms. Police tracked Ali to his home and later arrested him that day.
The incident on April 24 saw Ali behind the wheel of an 'out-of-control' car, according to West Mercia Police. They said the Ayres had 'no chance' of avoiding Ali 'when he hit them head on on the wrong side of the A441 Alvechurch Highway at 59mph on the 40mph speed limit road at around 2.30pm'. Such was the force of the shunt, the Ayres' Vauxhall was pushed into the car behind it.
Ali only held a provisional license at the time. He had been driving his sister's car, but they swapped to get 'into their mother's Golf'. He was not insured on the VW.
His sister, 20-year-old Sanaa Shahzad, let Ali drive the car while she attended an eyelash appointment. They had swapped cars just moments earlier.
Dashcam footage clocked Ali doing 62mph in a 30mph zone, causing him to have a near miss with one car. Then, he went around the A441 Sainsbury's roundabout twice, ignored the lanes and made his exit at full throttle. It was then he lost control of the car and drove straight into the Ayres.
Ali, whom cops said showed a 'total disregard' for safety, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving, and a string of other offences. On Friday, a judge sentenced him to 11 years and three months.
The full list of charges Ali admitted to is as follows:
Causing death by dangerous driving
Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
Causing death by driving a vehicle without a licence or insurance
Aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving
Being the driver of a vehicle who failed to stop after a road accident
Being the driver of a vehicle involved in a road accident who failed to report that accident
Using a motor vehicle on a road / public place without third party insurance
Driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence
For his reckless behaviour, Ali was banned from driving for 12 years and 6 months. The ban includes 'the 7 years and 6 months of his prison term and a further 5 years after that'. He will require an extended driving test when the ban lapses.
For her part in the crash, Ali's sister Shazad admitted two counts of causing or permitting the use of a vehicle without valid insurance or a licence. She had also let another person drive the car before she lent it to her brother.
She has also been caught on the dashcam of the Golf driving dangerously around Redditch and admitted further charge of refusing the password or pin to her mobile phone. After she was bailed, Shazad is due to be sentenced on June 26.

Detective Constable Rose Hughes, lead investigator for this case, said: 'While no sentence can ever compensate for the sad loss of life in this case and the life sentence Ali's actions have imposed on the victim's family and friends, we hope that the term handed down to him today will go some way to seeing justice done.
'He showed a total disregard for the safety of the public when took the car off his sister that day, driving recklessly and dangerously which is exacerbated by the fact he should never have been behind the wheel of this car as he did not hold a full driving licence.
'We hope this sentence and the tragic outcome will teach a sobering lesson about the reason for speed limits and driving regulations to anyone thinking about ever getting behind the wheel without having passed their test or driving in such a thoughtless and selfish manner putting so many people at risk as he did.
'Ali should never be driving again. Offenders like him have no place on our roads. His sister Shahzad quite rightly bears some of the responsibility for the outcome of this tragedy too. She should never have leant him the car, especially as she knew he was a learner driver with no insurance.'
Valerie's daughter Lucy said her mum was her 'best friend' and was the only person she 'would talk to about everything'. David, recovering from his injuries, said his wife was the 'life and soul of the party'.
He added: 'My life has been turned upside down, I can't express how much I miss Val and wish the whole thing never happened.'

A separate legal expert explained that a meeting with Blanche also presents an opportunity for Maxwell to potentially lessen her sentence. It would be in exchange for spilling secrets about her and Epstein's life - which she has closely guarded since his death. Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year term for sex trafficking underage girls for her late husband. She is the only person to be convicted in the case. The meeting, due to take place within days at Maxwell's Florida prison, marks a dramatic turning point in the case. For years, Maxwell, who is currently being held in a Florida prison, has refused to cooperate with authorities. But with 12 years left of her sentence behind bars, she is prepared to talk. Her knowledge will send shockwaves through the elite inner circle that once surrounded Epstein before his jail cell suicide in 2019. Many believe Maxwell, 63, could offer explosive details in exchange for a commuted sentence. One victim believes Prince Andrew is 'close to the top of the list' of those whom Maxwell has the most information on. She said: 'She had a front-row seat to the Duke's relationship with Jeffrey. Woman killed and man injured in crash near Inverness Airport
A woman has died and a man has been critically injured in a crash between a car and a van near Inverness Airport. A red Vauxhall Insignia car and a white Ford Transit Tipper van collided on the A96 Inverness to Nairn road a mile east of the airport roundabout at about 15:30 on passenger of the car, a 65-year-old woman, died at the scene. The 69-year-old driver of the car was taken to Raigmore Hospital, where his condition is described as critical. The driver of the van was road was closed while an investigation was carried out and reopened at about 23: Kate Finlayson appealed for witnesses or drivers with dash cam footage to contact police. She added: "Our thoughts are very much with the family and friends of the woman who has died, and we are carrying out inquiries to establish the full circumstances."

Following the sad news of the death of Ozzy Osbourne, the Mirror takes a look at the 'short, sharp' prison stint that would ultimately change the course of the rock god's life Rock icon Ozzy Osbourne led a famously eventful life, with plenty of ups and downs along the way - including a spell behind bars that changed the course of his life. Although he would one day live in a sprawling LA mansion, Ozzy came from humble origins and endured a troubled childhood. He was badly bullied at school, where his then-undiagnosed dyslexia and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) made learning a chore. However, the self-professed class clown harboured dreams far beyond the gates of his secondary modern in Aston, Birmingham. At the age of 14, he became drawn to the idea of breaking into the music industry, and would later credit The Beatles' 1963 hit She Loves You as providing a ray of inspiration. In a 2008 interview with Esquire, the Prince of Darkness recalled: "When I heard 'She Loves You', my world went up like a shooting star. It was a divine experience. The planets changed. I used to fantasise that Paul McCartney would marry my sister." At the age of 17, Ozzy worked in a slaughterhouse before turning to crime and burgling a clothes shop. Although he'd shown no aptitude for manual labour, Ozzy's skills as a crook were even less impressive. As well as stealing baby clothes and shirts, Ozzy also tried to take a TV, but it fell on him. Although he'd made sure to wear gloves, these didn't cover his thumbs, meaning the would-be criminal had left prints everywhere. It wasn't long before police officers came knocking, sarcastically telling the youngster: "Not exactly Einstein, are we?" Jobless Ozzy was unable to pay the £40 fine, and his toolmaker father, John, refused, hoping this brush with the law would teach his wayward son an important lesson. Ozzy went on to spend six weeks behind the walls of HM Prison Birmingham, a Category B men's facility formerly known as Winson Green Prison. Although his sentence wasn't lengthy, it was enough to prompt the youth to rethink his life. In a 2014 interview with The Big Issue, Ozzy shared: "I tried to find things I was good at. I tried a bit of burglary, but I was no good at that. F****** useless. I didn't do any major burglary jobs. It was less than three weeks before I got caught. My dad said to me, that was very stupid. And I did feel very stupid. I didn't pay my fine, and I got put in jail for a few weeks. That was a short, sharp lesson. It certainly curbed my career in burglary." His release proved to be a turning point. Dad John, known affectionately as 'Jack', took out a loan to buy Ozzy a PA, a gift that ultimately proved to be the making of the talented musician. According to Ozzy: "Someone recently asked me what the best gift I ever got was, and it suddenly dawned on me that if my father hadn't bought me a microphone when I was 18, I definitely wouldn't be here now. He saw that I was really interested in popular music. My bedroom wall was covered in pictures of The Beatles. Anything with the word 'Beatles' on it was on my wall. "So he bought me a microphone, and it was shortly after that that I met the guys who would become Sabbath. It was the fact that I had my own microphone and PA system that got me in the band. If I hadn't had them, I would never have got the gig."
