Hollyoaks' Nikki Sanderson and Emmerdale star give 'happy' update following soap exit
Hollyoaks star Nikki Sanderson has updated fans following her soap exit after 13 years.
The actress, 41, debuted her character Maxine Minniver on the Channel 4 show back in 2012 and featured in some major storylines, including domestic violence and miscarrying a baby.
In April 2025, Maxine departed the village in a taxi after making plans to escape the country alongside her daughter, Minnie.
Following her soap exit, Nikki has shared a stunning selfie alongside her former Emmerdale star boyfriend Anthony Quinlan, who played Peter Barton on the ITV soap.
Taking to Instagram, the pair, who have been dating since 2022, posed for a photo and shared their 'happiness' as they enjoyed a holiday together in Majorca, Spain.
Nikki captioned the post: "Another happy holiday had. A short break in the place we love the most."
Fans of the two soap stars wasted no time in flooding the comments section with their well wishes for the couple, with one person writing: "Awww you both look really well and happy."
A second said, "Lovely picture. I hope you are having a lovely holiday. You look gorgeous." A third gushed, "You make such a lovely couple."
Nikki revealed in March that she had quit Hollyoaks after starring as Maxine Minniver for 13 years.
Before filming her final scenes in April, the actress told The Mirror that the decision to walk away was 'incredibly difficult'.
She explained: "Deciding to leave was an incredibly difficult decision for me because Maxine is a huge, huge part of my life – and a part of my life that I've loved.
"It's difficult to think, 'It's time', and it wasn't an instant or overnight decision, it took me a long time to make it and it was something I genuinely fought with myself about, but I'm lucky that I could talk to people around me and get people's opinions."
Nikki added: "I'm grateful that I've had the stability for so long, now I've just got to embrace the instability of not knowing what's next."
She also confirmed that she is not done with the soap world and would jump to Coronation Street if given the chance.
Between 1999 and 2005, the star took on the role of Candice Stowe in ITV's Coronation Street.
A year later, Nikki appeared in Holby City as Monica Southworth.
Between 2008 and 2009, Nikki played Dawn Bellamy in Heartbeat, and in 2012, she also landed the role of Amy Harris in Casualty.

Hulk Hogan's distressing 911 call revealed as medics rush to WWE icon's home
The disturbing 911 call to Hulk Hogan's home as been revealed following his death aged 71. WWE icon Hulk died at his home in Clearwater, Florida following reports of a cardiac arrest. Medics rushed to his house as they tried to save the wrestling star in the early hours of Thursday morning. Operators of the 911 call could be heard dispatching paramedics to the scene as they noted the matter was for a cardiac arrest. Officials responded to the call at 9:51am, as Hulk received treatment from Clearwater Fire & Rescue before being taken to a nearby hospital. He died at the hospital, according to reports. A "slew of police cars and EMTs were parked outside Hogan's home," before he was taken out on a stretcher, according to TMZ. Hulk's death was confirmed by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), in a statement on X which read: 'WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. 'One of pop culture's most recognisable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s. WWE extends its condolences to Hogan's family, friends, and fans.' In his final Instagram video, Hulk made a promotional clip for Real American Beer where he sipped on the alcoholic beverage and encouraged his fans to try the patriotic beer. "Real American beer, made in America, by real Americans," he said before taking a sip. "Get some brother. That's America brother," he added. The wrestling world have begun reacting to the shock news of Hulk's death, as he's been hailed as "one of pop culture's most recognisable figures". Ric Flair, who is a champion in wrestling like Hulk, paid tribute as he wrote online: ""I Am Absolutely Shocked To Hear About The Passing Of My Close Friend @HulkHogan! "Hulk Has Been By My Side Since We Started In The Wrestling Business. An Incredible Athlete, Talent, Friend, And Father! Our Friendship Has Meant The World To Me. He Was Always There For Me Even When I Didn't Ask For Him To Be. "He Was One Of The First To Visit Me When I Was In The Hospital With A 2% Chance Of Living, And He Prayed By My Bedside. Hulk Also Lent Me Money When Reid Was Sick. Hulkster, No One Will Ever Compare To You! Rest In Peace My Friend!" Just weeks before Hulk's death, a representative for the WWE icon denied speculation he was gravely ill. In May, it was announced he'd undergone a small "fusion procedure" on his neck. But in June, a YouTuber claimed that things were "not looking good" for him. Denying the speculation, a representative said that Hulk's surgery had been "successful" and there were "no reasons to panic." They added: "He just needs from time to time a medical check up."

Kneecap describe decision to ban them from Hungary as ‘political distraction'
The trio, who are outspoken supporters of Palestine, were due to perform at Sziget Festival on August 11 and remain on the line-up on its website. Government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs wrote on social media platform X that the decision to ban Kneecap was because the group's 'members repeatedly engage in antisemitic hate speech supporting terrorism and terrorist groups'. But in a statement posted on Instagram, Kneecap described the decision to bar them from entry as 'political distraction' and pointed out that none of the group has any criminal convictions. A spokeswoman for Sziget Festival also described the move as 'unnecessary and regrettable'. 'Cancel culture and cultural boycotts are not the solution,' she added. The statement from Kneecap said: 'To the tens of thousands of fans who we were buzzing to see in person at Sziget, we're sorry we won't be with you. 'The authoritarian government of Viktor Orban say we 'pose a national security threat'. 'Which is f****** outrageous coming from a man who welcomed Netanyahu, a wanted war criminal, like a hero just a few weeks ago. 'There is no legal basis for his actions, no member of Kneecap has ever been convicted of any crime in any country. We stand against all hate crimes and Kneecap champions love and solidarity as well as calling out injustices whenever we see it. 'It's clear that this is political distraction and a further attempt to silence those who call out genocide against the Palestinian people.' Kneecap have had several shows cancelled in recent months, including TRNSMT festival in Glasgow and at the Eden Project in Cornwall. They claim this is part of a smear campaign against them because of their vocal support for Palestine and criticism of Israel's actions in Gaza, which they say is a genocide. The statement posted earlier on Thursday by Mr Kovacs said: 'Hungary has zero tolerance for antisemitism in any form. 'Their planned performance posed a national security threat, and for this reason, the group has been formally banned from Hungary for three years. 'If they enter, expulsion will follow under international norms.' The spokeswoman for Sziget Festival said: 'Following concerns raised by government and pressure groups across Hungary over the past weeks at the prospect of Kneecap performing, we have liaised closely with the band and they reassured us that their performance would not contravene either Sziget's values or Hungarian law. 'Over the past 30 years, Sziget has served as a free and safe place for different cultures, hosting artists and visitors from around the world, earning significant recognition in the international community and enhancing Hungary's reputation. 'We fear that the government's decision announced today to ban Kneecap may not only damage the reputation of Sziget, but also negatively affect Hungary's standing worldwide.' Kneecap – comprised of Liam Og O hAnnaidh, Naoise O Caireallain, and JJ O Dochartaigh – were formed in Belfast and released their first single in 2017. They hit the headlines recently after O hAnnaidh, who performs under the name Mo Chara, was charged with a terror offence relating to allegedly displaying a flag in support of Hezbollah. In May, the Metropolitan Police said the group were being investigated by counter-terrorism police after videos emerged allegedly showing them shouting 'Up Hamas, up Hezbollah' and 'Kill your local MP'. The group apologised to the families of murdered MPs and said they have 'never supported' Hamas or Hezbollah, which are banned in the UK. They were also investigated over their set at Glastonbury Festival in June, but last week Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they would be taking no further action.

The young woman claimed that it was all because of her outfit, which the HR at the company allegedly had an issue with. Fuming, she took to Instagram where she showed off the clothing she was wearing - however, thousands of social media users seemed to agree with the employer. Karishma allegedly arrived at her new job wearing a figure-hugging mini skirt with a high slit, which she had paired with almost sheer tights and chunky boots. The outfit also included a cosy cropped knitted cardigan in a similar colour scheme, which featured a low-cut neckline. Sharing the alleged incident to her 303k followers online, Karishma said: ''She doesn't know it yet but in one hour she's about to get fired by HR for her 'inappropriate and distracting' work outfit'.'' Luckily, while it may have been brutal at the time, it seems that the young woman used the incident to truly focus on her ''dream''. Karishma went on in the caption: ''If I don't get fired I would never have started working on my dream - literally there is no bigger proof than this when I say everything happens for a reason.'' The now-viral video has since taken the internet by storm, amassing more than an astronomical 5.2million views and over 32,000 likes. Thousands of internet users flooded to comments where many agreed on one thing - the outfit was indeed not fit for work, they thought. I'm mad after being told to 'cover up' in the pub garden at Spoons One person said: ''Baby you're in a short shirt skirt and a crop top HR is right.'' Someone else chimed in: ''I'm with the HR on this one.'' A third commented: ''inappropriate and unprofessional for a work setting. freelancer or not. Can you be dress coded for wearing crop tops in public? The concept of being "dress coded" typically applies to specific environments such as schools, workplaces, or certain establishments where dress codes are enforced to maintain a particular standard or atmosphere. In public spaces, however, the situation is generally more relaxed and governed by societal norms rather than strict rules. That said, whether or not you can be dress coded for wearing a crop top in public largely depends on the context and location: Public Spaces: In most public spaces, like parks, streets, and beaches, wearing a crop top is generally acceptable and unlikely to result in any formal repercussions. People have the freedom to dress as they choose, provided they adhere to basic standards of decency and local laws. Establishments and Venues: Some restaurants, shops, or clubs may have their own dress codes. It's possible that a crop top might not meet the dress requirements for more formal venues. In such cases, staff may politely request that you adhere to their dress code or deny entry. Schools and Workplaces: Educational institutions and workplaces often have dress codes in place. Crop tops may be considered inappropriate in these settings, and you could be asked to change into more suitable attire. Cultural and Regional Considerations: In certain cultures or regions, norms and expectations around acceptable clothing can vary widely. It's always a good idea to be aware of and respect local customs and dress codes when travelling. ''This is a get coffee with the girls fit.'' A professional shared their view, writing: ''HR Director here. Girly pop you are so cute, the outfit looks fab on you. ''I do agree with the HR team that it's not work appropriate though. ''Freelance contractor or not, they DO have jurisdiction over the dress code for all people 'employed' by the company, regardless of your status as a full employee or not. ''Similar to how a business can require customers to wear shirts and shoes while on the premises.''
