Sport Caerphilly recognised for autism inclusivity
The new accreditation supports the objectives laid out in the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019-2029.
This strategy outlines a long-term vision to make sport within Caerphilly accessible and inclusive.
To earn the qualification and improve their ability to provide for people with autism, development officers and coaches completed specialist e-learning in understanding autism and effective communication.
This means that the staff are well equipped to provide a genuine understanding and respect when supporting participants.
Moving forward, staff and coaches from Sport Caerphilly will take part in hands-on autism training using the Autism Reality Experience Simulator.
This training aims to provide insights into the sensory challenges faced by autistic individuals, thereby enhancing understanding and inclusive measures within the service.
Sport Caerphilly continues to embed inclusivity into community sports through these efforts, advocating for their vision of more people becoming more active more often.

New 3G pitch complete at Caerphilly sporting excellence hub
The previous surface at he Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach had reached the end of its lifespan. The investment in the new facility is part of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy. The renewed pitch enhances the overall quality of the site and strengthens its position as a Level 3 strategic facility for both club and community use. "It shows how serious we are about delivering high quality, sustainable facilities across the county borough.' The centre is used by local sports clubs, school teams and college learners. Coleg y Cymoedd students regularly use it as part of their sporting and educational development, and Dragons RFC has renewed its long-term commitment to the site as its primary training base. New all-weather sports pitch officially opened in Caerphilly
The 3G artificial turf facility is located at St Cenydd Leisure Centre and will be used by both St Cenydd Community School and the wider community. Funded through the UK Government's Shared Prosperity Fund, the £1 million development is part of Caerphilly County Borough Council's Sport and Active Recreation Strategy and Place Shaping programme. Councillor Chris Morgan, cabinet member for leisure, said: "This new dual-use facility represents a significant investment in local sport and physical activity. "It will provide a safe, modern and accessible environment for school pupils, sports clubs and the wider community to enjoy all year round. "The project reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting healthier, more active lifestyles through the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy." The pitch meets World Rugby and FIFA standards, allowing year-round use by schools, clubs, and residents. Bookings follow the council's established sports pitch allocation criteria.
