Sixers' Paul George makes Damian Lillard projection in free agency
He was an All-Star in 2025 averaging 24.9 points, 7.1 assists, and 4.7 rebounds with the Bucks. When Lillard returns, he will be another year older, but he showed he can still be a lethal scorer out on the floor so one has to wonder about his future in the league.
Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George hopped on "Podcast P with Paul George" and gave his thoughts on where Lillard could go in free agency (h/t Bleacher Report):
Put him with Houston…You put him on that team where there is a KD, there's defense around him, there's length around him. I always like if it's a smaller guard, pair him with length around him… There's enough youth around him to where he doesn't have to carry the load.
Lillard going to the Houston Rockets and joining Kevin Durant, Alperen Sengun, and Amen Thompson would be an interesting scenario. As mentioned, Lillard can still hoop, but one has to wonder if he can be anywhere near the player he once was when he does recover from the injury.
As for George, he and the Sixers will look to bounce back from a tough 24-58 season as they were left dealing with a ton of injuries that decimated the roster.

Damian Lillard Receives Message From Bucks After Unexpected Release
Damian Lillard Receives Message From Bucks After Unexpected Release originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In a surprise offseason move that rippled throughout the NBA, the Milwaukee Bucks officially waived nine‑time All‑Star point guard Damian Lillard on July 1. Advertisement The franchise elected to stretch his remaining contract in order to clear cap space for the marquee free‑agent signing of Myles Turner, who agreed to a four-year, $107 million deal with the Bucks on the same day. The move came amid Lillard's recovery from a torn Achilles suffered on April 27 during the NBA playoffs. On Monday, the Bucks took to X to post a brief farewell to Lillard. "A leader as resilient and clutch as they come," the Bucks said. "You gave your all for this team and this city. Thank you, Dame." Drafted sixth overall by the Portland Trail Blazers in 2012, Lillard immediately stamped his mark by earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 2013. Advertisement Traded to the Bucks in 2023, Lillard posted a franchise‑record 39 points in his debut and averaged 24.9 points, 7.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists across 58 games last season before injuries cut his campaign short. Over a 13 seasons in the NBA, he has collected nine All‑Star selections, seven All‑NBA honors and remains the Trail Blazer's all‑time leading scorer with 19,376 points. Former Milwaukee Bucks guard Damian Lillard continues to rehab from his Achilles McLoone-Imagn Images Lillard's 2024‑25 season was marred first by a deep vein thrombosis in his right calf in late March, which sidelined him for several weeks. Cleared in mid‑April, he returned for Game 2 of the Bucks' first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers only to suffer a left Achilles rupture days later, prompting season‑ending surgery in early May. Advertisement Lillard is expected to continue his rehabilitation in Portland, close to family and his personal training staff, while retaining the freedom to sign with any franchise once healthy. He enters free agency still owed his full contract via the stretch, with multiple contenders lining up interest for when he returns to play, such as the Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers, Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics. Player grades: Summer Sixers end Salt Lake City with win over Grizzlies
The Philadelphia 76ers continued the summer league on Tuesday against the Memphis Grizzlies with their final contest of the Salt Lake City portion of the summer. The Sixers will pack it up and head to Las Vegas on Thursday for that stretch of the July portion of the summer. Once again playing without No. 3 overall pick VJ Edgecombe who remains day-to-day with a left thumb contusion, as well as Adem Bona who was resting, the summer Sixers buckled down defensively and found a rhythm on offense to walk away with a 91-90 win over the Grizzlies. Justin Edwards was able to put together a solid night with 15 points and two steals. Judah Mintz led the way for Philadelphia with 26 points, three assists, and three steals, rookie Johni Broome had eight points, 12 rebounds, five of them on the offensive end, and two blocks, while Hunter Sallis added 11 off the bench. Jalen Slawson had seven points and Jalen Hood-Schifino had seven and seven assists. Here are the player grades following a summer league win: Justin Edwards: B-plus The Sixers have been waiting for Edwards to find his rhythm on the offensive end. He was able to get himself some looks off the dribble and get into the paint which created opportunities for him. He was also efficient with his 3-pointers which was an issue in the first two games. Something that has been a problem thus far in the summer league—which has hampered Edwards a bit—is a lack of spacing and the lack of a sure ball-handler for this Sixers roster. Johni Broome: B-plus The rookie big man just played some winning basketball in this one. He was very good defensively as he was in the right spots all night long. He was constantly in the right spots to deter shots and made the right rotations on the drivers of the Grizzlies. Offensively, he was a bit slow to read the double teams, but when he was able to find a crease, he took advantage of it. He has a soft touch around the basket and is an underrated passer. He's also a relentless rebounder which is a big help for a team like the Sixers that can struggle on the glass at times. Hunter Sallis: B After a quiet summer league debut, Sallis had some big highlights in this one. He drove the lane and had a poster slam, knocked down a tough 3, and then ran the floor for a layup. He flashed some poise on the offensive end, and he has some NBA-level athleticism that should earn him a look at some point in the 2025-26 season. Judah Mintz: A One thing's for sure about Mintz: he can put the ball in the basket. He has an aggressive nature and he did a good job of getting into the paint in this one and being able to get the scoreboard moving and was able to get to the line a lot in this one. He has taken full advantage of the opportunity in front of him with Edgecombe out and one has to wonder if he will get a look from an NBA team—even if it isn't the Sixers. He made some huge plays down the stretch for the Sixers to close this one out. Jalen Hood-Schifino: B A problem for Hood-Schifino thus far in the summer league has been handling pressure from opponents. He did a much better job of that in this one as the Sixers were able to find some type of rhythm on the offensive end. He was good with his passing and took care of the ball. Jalen Slawson: C-plus An aggressive player, Slawson was able to get a look as a starter in this one and he had a rim-rattling slam in the early going. The big man out of Furman made some hustle plays on the defensive end of the floor and helped Philadelphia get out in transition. Izan Almanza There is a lot to like about Almanza. With the Sixers on an Exhibit 10 deal, he has a lot of size and skill which allows him to make plays from the wing with ease. He has a smooth game and did some good things off the bench for Philadelphia in this one.

Indiana Pacers Reveal Bombshell About Losing Myles Turner
Indiana Pacers Reveal Bombshell About Losing Myles Turner originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Entering the 2025 NBA offseason, the Indiana Pacers were not expected to do anything shocking. Even with Tyrese Haliburton tearing his Achilles, a lineup of Andrew Nembhard, Bennedict Mathurin, Aaron Nesmith, Pascal Siakam, and Myles Turner could compete in the weaker Eastern Conference. Advertisement And then the Milwaukee Bucks, in a shocking move, bought out Damian Lillard and inked Turner to a four-year $107 million deal, pairing the floor-spacing big with Giannis Antetokounmpo. Initially, it was revealed (assumed?) that the Pacers were hesitant to offer Turner anything more than $23 million per season, although it was later revealed that they were eager to spend to keep him. "I know this, that Herb Simon and Steven Rales and the Simon family were fully prepared to go deep into the tax to keep him, and we really wanted to do that," said Kevin Pritchard. "And we were negotiating in good faith, but what happens in this league is sometimes you're negotiating, but because a guy is unrestricted, he has the right to say, that's the offer I want. I'm going to take it." Turner absolutely had the right to take more money to compete for a title with the Pacers' bitter rival, and there is a chance that Pritchard's definition of "negotiating in good faith" is different than Turner's, but he dropped a major bombshell. Advertisement Apparently, Turner didn't communicate that he was going to sign with the Bucks, and the Pacers found out the same way everyone else did: from ESPN's Shams Charania. "We were deep in conversations with Myles, and then we saw that he had accepted an offer with Milwaukee," added Pritchard. After ten years, one might have expected Turner to tell his old team that he was going elsewhere, but that's the business side of the NBA.
