Over 4.1 million gather at Grand Mosque on 29th night of Ramadan
MAKKAH — The Grand Mosque in Makkah welcomed more than 4.1 million worshippers and Umrah pilgrims on the 29th night of Ramadan — one of the most spiritually significant nights of the holy month, during which the Qur'an completion (Khatm Al-Qur'an) prayers were held.
According to Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, the night saw over 3.4 million worshippers gather for Isha and Taraweeh prayers, while more than 646,600 performed Umrah.
In addition, around 28,200 people benefited from mobility carts, 135,600 used location guidance services, and more than 42,000 bottles of Zamzam water and 702,000 iftar meals were distributed.
Worshippers began arriving early in the morning, filling every corridor, courtyard, and level of the Grand Mosque, including the Mataf area around the Kaaba.
With calm and devotion, pilgrims and worshippers performed their rituals in a spiritual atmosphere filled with reverence and serenity, hoping to witness the blessed night of Laylat Al-Qadr.These smooth operations were made possible thanks to the services and projects implemented under the supervision of the Kingdom's leadership, which ensured that worshippers could perform their rituals safely and comfortably.The General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque mobilized all its resources and personnel in coordination with relevant authorities. Measures were taken to guide crowds into designated prayer areas and manage the flow of worshippers, including elderly individuals and those with disabilities.To support visitors, the authority provided categorized directional signs, enhanced cleanliness and sterilization, and equipped restrooms with all essential services. More than 33,000 prayer carpets were laid out, and multiple Zamzam distribution points were established with both chilled and unchilled options available around the clock.Additionally, the door systems were optimized to ease entry and exit, with special entrances designated for elderly and disabled worshippers. Emergency response teams were also stationed to handle any reported issues promptly.

It will be organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and the Guests of God Service Program, two of the Kingdom's leading entities in documenting the history of the holy sites. The forum aims to advance academic research by bringing together scholars from various disciplines — including history, architecture, Islamic arts, literature, geography, media, and digital studies — to explore new perspectives and methodologies for preserving and narrating the legacy of Hajj and the Two Holy Mosques. A key goal is to highlight how emerging technologies can enrich documentation efforts and provide immersive digital experiences that enhance public awareness and global academic collaboration. The event will focus on five main themes: Saudi Arabia's role in serving the Two Holy Mosques; Hajj and the holy sites in historical texts and travel accounts; architecture and visual identity of the Two Holy Mosques; Hajj in cultural memory and social heritage; and modern technologies in Hajj documentation. The Foundation has begun accepting research papers, with the submission window open until the end of Rabi al-Awwal 1447H. The submitted work will undergo a one-month peer review, followed by a one-month revision period, with accepted papers to be announced two weeks after final amendments.

Muslim World League launches global digital Quranic reading initiatives in Makkah

The launch included the opening of the 'First Coordinating Forum for Global Digital Quranic Reading Platforms,' the unveiling of the 'Global Digital Quranic Reading Portal,' and the establishment of the world's first association dedicated to digital Quranic reading. The event, attended by leading scholars, researchers, and practitioners in Quran recitation and education, as well as representatives from 50 global digital Quranic reading platforms, highlighted advanced efforts to teach and recite the Quran remotely through modern communication technologies. Sheikh Al-Issa welcomed the guests, stressing that these initiatives align with the MWL's mission to strengthen the unity of the Muslim Ummah and serve the Holy Qur'an. He described the MWL as a gift from Saudi Arabia to the Islamic world, thanking the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for their continuous support of Islamic behalf of the participating platforms, Dr. Ahmed Jamil from Indonesia praised the MWL's scientific and technical vision in connecting the world to the Qur'an and facilitating its learning and mastery according to established forum's four sessions covered topics including regulations for granting Quranic ijazah (certification) via digital platforms, development of educational tools for remote Quran instruction, coordination of international efforts in digital Quranic recitation, and the presentation of innovative technology-based initiatives in Quran the forum's key recommendations was the creation of the 'Global Association for Digital Quranic Reading Platforms' under the MWL to serve as an international body for overseeing and developing digital Quranic expressed deep gratitude to Saudi Arabia and the MWL for their unwavering support of the Holy Qur'an and their leadership in global coordination of Quranic education.

Haram imam warns against fake social media accounts, misuse of technology
Saudi Gazette report MAKKAH — Sheikh Yasser Al-Dosari, imam and preacher of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, urged Muslims in his Friday sermon to verify news before sharing it and avoid spreading content from paid or fake social media accounts that fabricate statements and false fatwas. Al-Dosari warned that many of these accounts deliberately spread misinformation to distort reputations and sow division in society. He stressed that every person is accountable before God for what they publish and share online. Highlighting the Kingdom's pioneering role in harnessing technology to serve communities, he praised Saudi Arabia's vision and steady steps in the digital field. However, he cautioned against misuse, saying that smartphones have turned, for some, from tools of connection into means of isolation. 'People appear among others as bodies without hearts, senses without souls, scrolling endlessly through platforms, drowning in clips without purpose, reaping little benefit,' he said. The imam noted that social media has often become 'a theater of false lives and unfair comparisons,' breeding envy, grudges, and ingratitude. He called out fake accounts that spread lies and attributed fabricated religious rulings to scholars as part of organized campaigns of distortion. Al-Dosari emphasized the need to recognize these dangers early and restore balance. He advised taking short breaks from devices to combat 'digital addiction' and to realign life priorities.
