There are two main ways this workout is practiced. The traditional approach recommends a 30-minute session, where participants walk briskly at about 70–85 per cent of their maximum heart rate for 3 minutes, followed by a 3-minute slow walk. This routine is repeated five times. According to Dr Sachin Sethi, principal lead of the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Centre at Artemis Hospitals, this cycle four to five times a week, 'can lead to improvements in cardiovascular health, lower blood pressure, increased leg strength, and enhanced aerobic capacity. It's a method that people of all ages and fitness levels can adopt.' And more often than not, people choose chocolates. However, for many, the pleasure is short-lived. Once the sugar craving is satiated, guilt begins to creep in, quietly overshadowing the joy that first accompanied the celebration. The usual reaction that follows is to want to give up chocolates altogether. But this doesn't always have to be the case: with a little awareness and a few smart choices, it is possible to enjoy sweet treats that satisfy your cravings and align with your health goals at the same time. One such choice—when enjoyed in moderation—is dark chocolate. Why dark chocolate? Dark chocolate is packed with a number of powerful antioxidants. Flavanols such as epicatechin, which are plant compounds that fight inflammation and protect against cell damage from free radicals, are linked to improved blood flow, lower blood pressure, and better heart health. Dark chocolate also has polyphenols, which are plant compounds with antioxidant properties. It also contains theobromine, a mild stimulant, mood enhancer and antioxidant. Here's what to scan for on your chocolate labels: cocoa content – look for cocoa content between 70 to 85 %; sugar – less is more, ideally, under 5g of sugar per serving; fats – skip chocolate bars that contain hydrogenated oils; additives – steer clear of high-fructose corn syrup and artificial flavours. It is important to remember that, even with better ingredients, moderation is still essential. Dark chocolate must not be a daily indulgence, just because it is healthy. One or two small squares a few times a week should be the limit. Smart swaps for that sweet tooth If your cravings are steering you towards sugar but you're aiming to eat smarter, then you could satisfy your sweet tooth with alternatives that offer both flavour and nutrition. Cacao nibs: These crunchy bits are made from crushed cacao beans and deliver intense chocolate flavour with zero added sugar. Packed with antioxidants like flavonoids, they may improve heart health and brain function. Also, they're rich in magnesium, iron, and fibre. You can sprinkle them over yoghurt or blend them into smoothies for a natural chocolate kick. Date-sweetened bites: These are often made with just nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. Dates, naturally sweet, come with fibre, potassium, and polyphenols. So, your blood sugar doesn't spike the way it would with regular sweets. Unlike candy, date bites support energy levels and digestion, making them a great pre-workout or midday snack. In addition to these, you could also try homemade energy balls or snack bars using oats, nut butter, and a few simple ingredients. These are easy to customise and contain no refined sugar if you make them with natural sweeteners like mashed banana or a little honey. Even frozen grapes or dark chocolate–dipped strawberries can be a clever switch, offering antioxidants and fibre with far fewer processed ingredients than a chocolate bar. The joy of celebrating life's little moments shouldn't be overshadowed by guilt over a piece of chocolate. By making more mindful choices, like carefully chosen dark chocolate or cacao nibs, you can satisfy your sweet tooth while also nourishing your body. The key, of course, is moderation. Pune: The monsoon's arrival in May with heavy spells and the intermittent rain in June triggered an early start to dengue and chikungunya cases this year, doctors and data from Pune Municipal Corporation report. Between Jan and July 2, this year, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) reported 264 suspected and 12 confirmed dengue cases. In June alone, there were 123 suspected cases and four confirmed cases (see box). The city also reported ten chikungunya cases for the same period. The highest dengue cases were from Aundh-Baner ward (43), followed by Nagar Road-Wadgaon Sheri ward (40) and Dhankawdi-Sahakarnagar ward which reported 26 cases. Dr Arvind Patil, internal medicine specialist at Apollo Clinic, said they have noticed more than 20-30 children visiting the clinic for either viral fever or gastrointestinal issues in the past few weeks. "It is a 10% jump in the number of cases reported around this time as compared to the previous year." The uptick in cases has also led to a rise in admissions in some hospitals. Inamdar Hospital has reported 14 dengue cases in the first week of June diagnosed with NS1 antigen test. "More kids are down with dengue as they play outside in the evening when Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are most active," consultant physician Dr Rekha Sharma said. Apollo Spectra's internal medicine expert Dr Aditya Deshmukh said, there is a 20% surge in dengue cases this June as compared to last year. "Patients are of all ages, and they are reporting symptoms such as high fever, severe body aches, headaches, nausea, and rashes. However, there have been no dengue-related deaths," he added. Dr Abhimanyu Sengupta, senior consultant in general paediatrics at Ankura Hospital for Women & Children, noticed a relatively early rise in dengue cases this year as compared to previous years, and children between 5-12 seem to be affected more.
