Top chef names his favourite Aussie pie shop - and it's a tiny hole in the wall on a busy main road
Toby Wilson, the celebrated chef behind Taco King and Ricos Tacos, revealed his go-to lunch spot is none other than The Upper Crust, a humble pie shop on Pittwater Road that's been serving locals for decades.
'The chicken and white wine pie is absolutely the move,' Wilson told Broadsheet, calling the shop his 'childhood pie stop.'
And he's not the only one obsessed.
Located at 1003 Pittwater Road, Collaroy, The Upper Crust has become something of a pilgrimage site for pie lovers across Sydney - with queues snaking out the door most days and loyal fans declaring it 'the best pie shop in the whole city.'
On offer is a mouthwatering menu of classics and inventive twists: steak, potato and cheese; pepper steak; chicken, avocado and brie; beef and burgundy; lamb and rosemary; even a spicy Mexican-style pie for the more adventurous.
There are family-sized pies, party pies, sausage rolls, and even excellent coffee for the full lunch hit.
The reviews are glowing - and often poetic.
Located at 1003 Pittwater Road, Collaroy, The Upper Crust has become something of a pilgrimage site for pie lovers across Sydney - with queues snaking out the door most days and loyal fans declaring it 'the best pie shop in the whole city.'
'Just as in Greek mythology the song of the mermaids attracted sailors, the mouth-watering scent of freshly baked pie crust draws you in irresistibly,' one fan wrote.
Another reviewer confessed they're not usually a fan of pies but were completely converted: 'The minced steak and Mexican pies were beyond expectations... the guy next to me told his mates 'hands down the best pie I've had in my life' - and I have to agree.'
One devoted customer even declared: 'I've just walked from Dee Why across the shark-infested lagoon and back to buy my pies. It's always worth it.'
Others praised the 'friendly, helpful staff' and said the crust was the reason people keep coming back - with some items selling out fast during peak hours.
There's a small outdoor seating area, and one customer even received a complimentary mince pie with their order.
With chefs, locals, and foodies united in praise, The Upper Crust might just be Sydney's most legendary pie stop - and worth the trip no matter where you're coming from.

Alex Cullen lists his Sydney home after being brutally sacked by Channel Nine
Axed Today show reporter Alex Cullen has put up his Sydney home for rent. Cullen, 44, who was sacked by Channel Nine after he accepted a $50,000 gift from The Block billionaire Adrian Portelli for calling him 'McLaren Man' live on air, has made the move after landing a new gig on The Christian O'Connell Show for Melbourne's Gold 104.3. Located in Summer Hill, 9km from the CBD, Cullen's four-bedroom, two-bathroom property is currently listed at $1,700 a week and comes with a $6,800 bond. According to the Daily Telegraph, Cullen had originally listed the home for $1800 last week. Built in 1912, the Queen Anne Federation dwelling has been carefully maintained and boasts classic features including stained glass windows, patterned ceiling finishes and archways. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Highlights include timber flooring, original archways, decorative fireplaces and a wraparound verandah. There's also a well-appointed modern kitchen and a large backyard with a paved patio for alfresco dining. It comes after Cullen was dismissed from the Today show for accepting a $50,000 gift from controversial Block bidder Adrian Portelli. In January, the presenter was given the sizeable sum after he was the first media personality to use Portelli's self-proclaimed nickname 'McLaren Man' live on air, which resulted in him leaving Channel Nine. He has now secured a new role as a sports presenter on Melbourne 's Gold 1043.3's top-rating breakfast program The Christian O'Connell Show. Host Christian O'Connell confirmed the news during his show late last month. Alex shared his excitement at joining the show in a statement. 'This is such an exciting next chapter for me,' he wrote. 'I actually started my career in radio, so to be coming back to it and joining a show that's so loved and so full of heart is a real thrill. 'I can't wait to be on air with Christian, Pats and Rio, and to get to know Melbourne – my family and I are thrilled to be making it our new home.' He will officially join the show in July, after Christian's co-star Jack Post announced his resignation in May. Cullen's exit from Nine was announced by Today host Karl Stefanovic live on air. The scandal kicked off when Portelli had grown tired of his long-used nickname 'Mr Lambo' and offered the cash reward to the first person to use his new moniker on air, with Alex obliging on the Today show. The Block entrepreneur then posted what appeared to be a bank transfer of $50,000 to the presenter on Instagram. Accepting cash, gifts or benefits to undermine journalistic independence, and improperly using a journalistic position for personal gain, are both breaches of the journalism code of ethics as defined by the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance union. The ill-advised stunt led to Alex being suspended by Nine, and he did not appear on the show while the network investigated the payment. Nine's parting of ways with Alex went ahead despite Portelli's claim that the journalist intended the money to be paid to charity all along. Network insiders also told Daily Mail Australia that the stunt could have been beneficial for the network and Portelli, if Alex had advised the promoter that, as a journalist, he was unable to accept any payment for making the comment on air. Portelli first received the unwanted nickname 'Mr Lambo' after turning up to a 2022 auction of popular house makeover show The Block in a yellow Lamborghini.

NRL star Bradman Best shares heartwarming gender reveal with partner Kayla Fenech
NRL star Bradman Best and his partner Kayla Fenech have shared their heartwarming gender reveal video, as the couple prepare to welcome their first child. Best, 23, and the daughter of Aussie boxing legend Jeff Fenech staged the reveal on Sunday afternoon. The Knights star kicked a football, which exploded with pink smoke, symbolising that he and Fenech are expecting a baby girl. 'Little princess,' Bradman captioned the clip alongside a heart emoji. The reveal will come as great news to Jeff Fenech, who has said that he can't wait to be a grandfather. The boxing icon previously stated that he didn't want his daughter to date a football player - but changed his tune after meeting Best. The couple recently announced they are expecting a baby in 2026 on Instagram. 'Baby Best due in January 2026. We can't wait,' Kayla wrote on the social media platform. But despite his earlier comments, Fenech has now spoken of his delight at the news. 'They are so happy,' he told The Daily Telegraph. 'And I'm so proud of both of them. Whether it's a boy or a girl, the baby is going to have some great genes. 'And they'll be great parents. I love Kayla and Bradman is a great fella who will make a great dad.' Fenech said he initially went 'apes***' when he found out his daughter was dating a footy player. 'I'd always warned my girls about going out with league players,' he had previously said. He added: 'So when she rang and told me, I went off the deep end. I gave her a roasting. She kept trying to say, 'Dad, he's a lovely guy'. Kayla was telling me every day how nice he was. 'Bradman knew I was angry, but he told Kayla, 'I'll prove your dad wrong' - and he (certainly) has.' Kayla has over 200,000 followers on Instagram and works as a business development manager for Ray White. After announcing the big news on Instagram, the pair received a heartfelt reception from many of their close friends and family. Her mother Suzee wrote in the comments: 'Omg I'm so proud of you both, can't wait to meet my gorgeous little bubba. 'Super excited to be on this next chapter/journey with you both. Luv u both.'

American bombshell 'top name' for next Bond Girl after rapid rise to fame
She's one of the hottest names in showbiz right now, and it looks like Sydney Sweeney is in the running for the biggest role of her career. The blonde bombshell rose to fame in The Handmaid's Tale, later gaining wider recognition in Euphoria and The White Lotus. And with huge roles like the female lead in Anyone But You opposite Glen Powell and a viral moment in the divisive superhero flick Madame Web, it's no surprise that her name has fallen onto the desks of James Bond bosses. Consequently, Sydney is rumoured to be a contender for the next Bond Girl. Not only that, but she already has the backing of Jeff Bezos, whose Amazon acquired creative control of the 007 franchise earlier this year, taking over from Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. According to The Sun, 27-year-old Sydney is close pals with new Bond director Denis Villeneuve, meaning she's already in with all the right people. A source told the publication: 'Sydney is the top name on the casting sheet for Bond. 'Denis believes she is hugely talented, as well as having an alluring appeal to younger generations, vital in modernising the franchise. 'They've hung out together a lot, and he has admired her stratospheric rise.' 'Plus, Sydney has the quality of being athletic and able to perform physical scenes, as well as being feminine and following in the legacy of Bond girls,' added the insider. Indeed, Sydney recently took on arguably her most challenging and physically demanding role to date, playing trailblazing boxer Christy Martin in her biopic. Sydney, who has experience in MMA and combat sports, gained 30Ibs for the part, saying her body was 'completely different' by the end of her transformation. So, she certainly has both the beauty, brains, and brawn to be Bond's next addition, and with her recent attendance at the Bezos wedding, plus looking cosy with former Bond gal Ana de Armas at last year's Toronto Film Festival, you'd be forgiven for already starting to put pieces together. As for her competition, previous actresses tipped for the coveted Bond Girl role include Florence Pugh, who is a hot favourite after working with Villeneuve on Dune 2. Other names floating around include Sydney's Euphoria co-star Zendaya, Bad Sisters actress Eve Hewson, Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan, and ex-Corrie fave Michelle Keegan. The Bond Girl role was first played by Ursula Andress as Honey Ryder in the 1960s, while later actresses include Jane Seymour, Barbara Bach, Eva Green, Michelle Yeoh, Maud Adams, and Halle Berry. As for the Secret Service agent himself, it is yet to be announced who will step into Daniel Craig's shoes after he bowed out in 2021's No Time to Die. Currently, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the runaway favourite, and he has been for a while. The 35-year-old Bullet Train star has seemingly fuelled speculation on several occasions, most notably by signing a deal with Omega, the luxury watch brand that's featured in Bond films since 1995's Golden Eye. And at the 28 Years Later premiere in London last month, he played coy when Deadline asked: 'What are you doing next?' 'I can't talk about it,' he replied before being escorted away. Other than the Kick-Ass star, Theo James, Henry Cavill, Jack Lowden, James Norton, Josh O'Connor, Regé-Jean Page, and Paul Mescal are all potential Bonds, according to the bookies. Jonathan Bailey, Jacob Elordi, Tom Holland, and Timothée Chalamet have also been mentioned in reports. It is not yet known when a decision will be finalised on who our next 007 is, but it's been claimed Amazon is getting closer by the day. Aaron Taylor-Johnson – 11/8 Callum Turner – 16/1 Harris Dickinson – 12/1 Henry Cavill – 10/1 Jack Lowden – 5/1 James Norton – 12/1 Sam C. Wilson – 16/1 Scott Rose-Marsh – 6/1 Theo James – 4/1 Odds taken from Ladbrokes. Just days ago, Mike Hopkins, head of Amazon MGM Studios, brought Bond back to everyone's attention when discussing Villeneuve coming on board. More Trending 'We are honoured that Denis has agreed to direct James Bond's next chapter,' he said. 'He is a cinematic master whose filmography speaks for itself.' The four-time Oscar-nominated director, who is a long-time Bond fanatic, is famous for his work on Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and the Dune franchise. There's no denying he brings plenty to the table, given how his movies have grossed more than $1.8billion (£1.3bn) worldwide. Got a story?
