Manipur govt will ensure Gwaltabi incident does not occur in future: Chief Secretary
He said the administration is committed to the integrity of the State of Manipur.
Addressing a press conference with Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh, the Chief Secretary said the recently concluded Shirui festival at Ukhrul district attracted about 1.70 lakh people, and people of all communities travelled with families from valley areas and other parts of the state as well as from outside the state.
Mr. Singh acknowledged that an unfortunate incident happened at Gwaltabi on May 20 when a Manipur State Road Transport Bus ferrying journalists to the festival was stopped, and the name of the state written on the windshield was reportedly covered with a white paper, leading to widespread criticism.
Over the last week, protests over the Gwaltabi incident have rocked the Meitei-inhabited Imphal Valley.
Mr. Singh said, "That there had been no instructions whatsoever or even remote thought of covering the name of the State, as has been alleged. This has been amply clarified by the state government as well as by the responsible political leadership. What transpired on the ground, would be revealed after a thorough inquiry only." Expressing regret over the incident, Mr. Singh also said the state administration has taken the reported untoward incident with utmost seriousness and the Governor has constituted an Inquiry Committee which will submit its report in a timebound manner.
Urging all to maintain public order, Singh also assured all concerned that "Once the report is submitted and those responsible for the lapses, if any, are identified, strict action would be taken."
"The state government will also ensure that such incident does not occur in future. The administration is committed to the integrity of the state of Manipur, and the only aim of all these efforts is to establish lasting peace in the state," Mr. Singh added.

In the event at Drass, Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, highlighting the Army's 'unique victory' on the Kargil peaks 26 years ago, said the military achieved a 'decisive victory' during Operation Sindoor as well continuing that tradition. 'It was the time when India made it clear that no evil intention will be allowed inside its borders, no harm will be allowed to the unity and integrity of India,' he said, referring to victory in Kargil. 'Continuing this tradition, during Operation Sindoor too, Indian military with the same indomitable courage and firm resolve targeted Pakistan backed terrorist infrastructure and thwarted other aggressive actions of Pakistan with effective pretense and achieved a decisive victory,' he said. 'Operation Sindoor is our resolve, message and answer,' he said. The Army Chief further added: 'With the unwavering trust of the countrymen and the political freedom granted by the government, the Indian armed forces gave a determined, precise and decisive response.' In his message, Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan said the Kargil conflict remains a stark reminder of Pakistan's 'treachery' and that India's adversaries will continue to test its resolve. But the nation will always come out victorious over the enemy's 'deceit and aggression' as was evident in Operation Sindoor, he added. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also paid glowing tributes to the military personnel who made supreme sacrifices in the conflict. 'On Kargil Vijay Diwas, I pay heartfelt tributes to our bravehearts who displayed extraordinary courage, grit and determination in defending our nation's honour in the toughest of terrains,' Singh said. 'Their supreme sacrifice during Kargil war is a timeless reminder of the unwavering resolve of our Armed Forces. India shall remain forever indebted to their service,' he said in a social media post. Two prostitution rackets busted in UPs Kushinagar, 16 held
Kushinagar (UP), Jul 26 (PTI) Police have busted prostitution rackets with the arrest of 16 people, including 10 young women and six men, from two hotels here on Saturday, officials said. Superintendent of Police (SP) Santosh Kumar Mishra said that the arrestees were involved in 'immoral activities" in Hotel Pearl and Utsav Marriage Lawn. Police received information regarding the facilities and conducted a raid. They also deployed some police personnel to provide information regarding the ongoing activities. Following this, police arrested a total of 16 people, including 10 women, from both hotels. During interrogation, the arrestees revealed that Naveen Singh, who owns Hotel Pearl, and CPN Rao, owner of Utsav Marriage Lawn, would make such arrangements for their customers and charge them for it. Police said that Singh and Rao were running an organised network separately. While Singh has been arrested, Rao is currently absconding and will be arrested soon. Cases have been registered in Kasya Police Station under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act. Conversion racket: Six linked to Chhangur Baba held in Uttarakhand; aide's properties demolished
Chhangur Baba NEW DELHI: The Agra and Uttarakhand police, in a joint effort, have arrested six individuals linked to the Chhangur gang, an international religious conversion racket operating out of Pakistan and Dubai. Confirming the arrests on Saturday, Dehradun senior superintendent of police (SSP) Ajay Singh also revealed how the accused, Chhangur Baba, tried to bypass the state's anti-conversion law by shifting the process to Delhi. SSP Singh said the Agra Police team had been in Uttarakhand for the last ten days as part of the investigation. He added that a case had been registered based on Mariyam's complaint, and another victim had also been identified during the investigation. "A team of Agra Police from UP came here 10 days ago in regard to a case. A man named Abdul Rehman was converted to Islam from Hinduism in 2014-15. When we investigated the case, we learnt about a victim whose converted name was Mariyam. She was pressurised for conversion," said SSP Singh. "We also traced another victim, whose converted name was Sumaiyya. The investigation is in a primary stage. And both cases of conversion have been registered," he added, as quoted by ANI. "As anti-conversion laws have been implemented in Uttarakhand, the victims were called to Delhi for conversion. " Meanwhile, in Balrampur district of Uttar Pradesh, authorities began demolishing properties linked to Sabroz, an aide of Chhangur Baba alias Jalaluddin, the main accused in the mass conversion case. Balrampur circle officer Raghavendra Pratap said the construction was found to be illegal and prior notices had been served. Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested another accused in the case, Rajesh Kumar Upadhyay. His arrest followed those of Chhangur Baba and his close aide Nasreen, believed to be the masterminds of the alleged syndicate. According to ADG (law and order) Amitabh Yash, the gang had been operating for over 15 years, using various methods including honey-trapping, exploiting minors, and administrative pressure to facilitate religious conversions. "A significant amount of foreign funding has been traced to the gang," he said, as reported by ANI. "The syndicate used nearly 40 bank accounts and had different rate cards for various types of conversions. The ATS is tracking the sources of these funds. Yash added that properties acquired using illegal funds would be seized and demolished. "Chhangur Baba and his main associate, Neetu alias Nasreen, will be interrogated regarding their network, financial trail, and assets. The process to seize and demolish their illegally acquired properties has begun. All individuals against whom there is evidence have been arrested. Mohammed Ahmed is also named in the case, and further investigation is underway," the ADG said. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also stepped in, seeking a copy of the FIR to probe the financial trail. Officials believe the proximity of the region to the Nepal border could indicate a wider conspiracy involving demographic changes. As part of its probe, the ED conducted raids at 14 locations on Wednesday- 12 in Utraula, Balrampur, and two in Mumbai- marking a significant escalation in the investigation.
