Telangana factory blast: Amit Shah expresses grief, says NDRF continuing rescue operation
NEW DELHI: Union minister Amit Shah on Monday expressed condolences over the Telangana factory blast, which claimed 12 lives, and informed that the NDRF team is continuing the rescue operation along with the local administration.
"Saddened by the tragic accident in a chemical factory in Sangareddy, Telangana. The NDRF team rushed to the spot immediately and is continuing the rescue operation along with the local administration," Amit Shah said.
"My heartfelt condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the swift recovery of those injured," he added.
Twelve people were killed and 34 others injured in a powerful blast at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Sangareddy district.
The explosion occurred around 9.30 am at Sigachi Industries' plant in Pashamylaram, where approximately 90 people were on duty, news agency PTI reported. State health minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha and labour minister G Vivek Venkatswamy visited the site and confirmed the casualties.
While the exact cause is yet to be ascertained, Telangana Fire Services Director General Y Nagi Reddy said preliminary observations suggest a blast occurred in the drying unit, possibly due to pressure build-up during the handling process.
The explosion flattened the three-storey structure, and rescue teams are still clearing debris to ensure no one remains trapped.
Of the 34 injured, 12 are in critical condition and on ventilator support, Labour Minister Venkatswamy said, citing severe respiratory stress caused by burns. The factory in-charge was among those killed, leaving no immediate representative from the company to detail what transpired.
Chief minister A Revanth Reddy expressed deep anguish over the tragedy and directed officials to ensure top-tier medical care for the injured. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief, announcing an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of those killed and Rs 50,000 for the injured from the PM's National Relief Fund.
The company issued a statement mourning the loss and promising full support to those affected. Meanwhile, DNA tests are being conducted to identify several victims whose bodies were charred beyond recognition, officials told PTI.

The raids were conducted on June 27 under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The federal agency initiated an investigation on the basis of multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) registered by Delhi's Economic Offences Wing under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, against Raheja Developers Ltd., its Managing Director Naveen Raheja, and others. 'The FIRs allege that substantial sums were fraudulently collected from investors and homebuyers by Raheja Developers Ltd on the promise of delivering residential flats in various group housing projects but failed to hand over the promised flats,' said the ED in a statement. Meanwhile, ED has attached immovable properties worth Rs 28.36 crore located at Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, Amritsar and Greater Noida in a more than Rs 950 crore bank fraud case linking Sunstar Overseas Ltd, the agency said on Friday. ED's Gurugram Zonal Office attached the properties under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. 'Investigation also revealed that ex-directors and promoters of SOL regained actual and indirect control by misusing Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) proceedings of National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT),' said the ED in a statement. Delhi Police seizes 15-year-old petrol, 10-year-old diesel vehicles from petrol pump under scrappage rules
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Tuesday seized two end-of-life vehicles (ELVs), a 15-year-old petrol bike and a 10-year-old diesel bike, from a petrol pump in the city, as part of its ongoing enforcement of scrappage rules for outdated vehicles. Traffic officials confirmed that both motorcycles were found operating in violation of the National Green Tribunal (NGT) guidelines, which prohibit the use of petrol vehicles older than 15 years and diesel vehicles older than 10 years in the national capital. While speaking to ANI, Ashok Kumar, Traffic Inspector, said, 'Two motorcycles have been seized from here. As per guidelines, we will hand over to the registered vehicle scrapper. After that, the owner of the vehicle will be given the scrap value as per norms.' Meanwhile, a separate development, petrol pumps across the national capital posted notices warning against fueling End-of-Life Vehicles (ELVs) were seen pasted on display boards. The warning stated that 'fuel will not be dispensed to end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) - 15-year-old petrol and 10-year-old diesel vehicles from July 1, 2025.' Along with these notices, CCTV cameras and speakers were also installed at several fuel stations to monitor compliance and inform customers. On June 24, Delhi's fuel ban on diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years from July 1st, 2025, is likely to deliver Rs 4.5 Lakh Crore of gain to auto companies, auto importers, and government tax collections, according to a recent report by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI). 'If 1.8 million old vehicles are replaced by new cars with an average price of Rs 15 lakhs each, the total turnover for the auto industry would amount to Rs 2.7 lakh crore,' GTRI said. The report further adds that, with this replacement of old vehicles with the new ones, the central government will be able to collect approximately Rs 1,35,000 crore from GST and compensation cess, while the Delhi government would gain around Rs 42,187 crore from road tax and diesel surcharges. GTRI also outlines that, 'Real values will be at least 50 per cent higher as this data ignores the revenue to be collected on account of the replacement of 4.4 million two-wheelers.' On the flip side, this rule of diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years will no longer be allowed to refuel at any petrol pump across the capital, will impose harsh costs on small businesses, informal sector workers, and middle-class families who still rely on older vehicles for mobility and livelihoods. Cabinet approves Research and Development and Innovation scheme with corpus of Rs 1 lakh crore to boost strategic, sunrise domains
New Delhi [India], July 1 (ANI): In a significant step to bolster India's research and innovation ecosystem, the Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved research development and innovation (RDI) scheme with a corpus of Rs one lakh crore to scale up research, development and innovation in strategic and sunrise domains. Briefing reporters on the cabinet decisions, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwani Vaishnaw said Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Scheme recognises the critical role that the private sector plays in driving innovation and commercialising research. The RDI Scheme aims to provide long-term financing or refinancing with long tenors at low or nil interest rates to spur private sector investment in RDI. The scheme has been designed to overcome the constraints and challenges in funding the private sector and seeks to provide growth and risk capital to sunrise and strategic sectors to facilitate innovation, promote technology adoption, and enhance competitiveness. Key objectives of the Scheme are to encourage the private sector to scale up research, development, and innovation (RDI) in sunrise domains and in other sectors relevant for economic security, strategic purpose, and self-reliance. The scheme will finance transformative projects at higher levels of Technology Readiness Levels (TRL). In addition, the project support acquisition of technologies which are critical or of high strategic importance, and facilitate setting up of a Deep-Tech Fund of Funds. An official release said that the Governing Board of Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), chaired by the Prime Minister, will provide overarching strategic direction to the RDI Scheme. The Executive Council (EC) of ANRF will approve the Scheme's guidelines, and recommend 2nd level fund managers and scope and type of projects in sunrise sectors. An Empowered Group of Secretaries (EGoS) led by the Cabinet Secretary, will be responsible for approving scheme changes, sectors and types of projects as well as second-level fund managers besides reviewing the performance of the Scheme. The Department of Science and Technology (DST) will serve as the nodal department for implementation of RDI Scheme. The RDI Scheme will have a two-tiered funding mechanism. At the first level, there will be a Special Purpose Fund (SPF) established within the ANRF, which will act as the custodian of funds. From the SPF funds shall be allocated to a variety of second level fund managers. This will be mainly in the form of long-term concessional loans, the release said. The funding to R&D projects by the second level fund managers would normally be in the form of long-term loan at low or nil interest rates. Financing in the form of equity may also be done, especially in case of startups. Contribution to Deep-Tech Fund of Funds (FoF) or any other FoF meant for RDI may also be considered. By addressing the critical need of private sector for long-term, affordable financing, the RDI Scheme fosters self-reliance and global competitiveness, thereby facilitating a conducive innovation ecosystem for the country as it marches towards Viksit Bharat at 2047, the release said.
