IOI to benefit from fresh fruit bunch output recovery

The Star04-06-2025
HLIB Research said IOI's FFB output has shown month-on-month and year-on-year recovery since March.
PETALING JAYA: IOI Corp Bhd expects its continuing fresh fruit bunch (FFB) output recovery will help it beat its own growth guidance of 1% to 2% in the financial year 2025 (FY25).
Given the anticipated strong FFB output in the fourth quarter (4Q25), IOI is confident of keeping its crude palm oil (CPO) production cost at RM2,100 per tonne for the full year, said Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) Research.
HLIB Research maintained its own FY25 FFB output growth assumption of 2.5%.
It said IOI's FFB output has shown month-on-month and year-on-year (y-o-y) recovery since March with weather conditions improving.
The output recovery has helped to narrow the group's year-to-date FFB output decline to just 0.3%, for the first 10 months of FY25.
Lower FFB output, minimum wage hike effective February and higher windfall profit levy had lifted IOI's 3Q25 CPO production cost by 1.3% y-o-y to RM2,530 per tonne, bringing its nine-month FY25 CPO production cost to RM2,104 per tonne.
It said the accelerated replanting programme of 8,000ha to 9,000ha per annum, embarked since FY19, would continue into FY26.
This will bring down its average age profile to about 13 years by end-FY26.

Better deal for media urged

Published on: Sunday, July 27, 2025 Published on: Sun, Jul 27, 2025 By: Mohd Nazlie Zainul Text Size: Fahmi (2nd from right) presenting the Kasih@Hawana contribution to Vicky Sylvester (3rd from right), a photographer with the Sabah Information Department. PENAMPANG: The Ministry of Communications has called on all media clubs across the country to collect detailed data on the salaries of media practitioners in their respective states. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the information is crucial before the matter can be brought forward for discussion in the near future. 'I have instructed the coalition of media clubs in each state to gather data so the ministry can have a clear picture of the actual situation, especially regarding salaries. 'We're aware that this salary issue is not limited to Sabah. That's why we need to understand the situation across the board,' he said. He said that media professionals include both full-time journalists and part-time contributors or stringers, and any review must take these categories into account. Fahmi was responding to questions on the low wages faced by several long-serving media practitioners in Sabah, many of whom reportedly still earn less than RM2,000 per month. He was speaking after presenting aid under the Kasih@Hawana Fund to Vicky Sylvester Matanjang, a photographer with the Sabah Information Department, who was seriously injured in a road accident in March. Vicky, who has served the department for 18 years since 2007, suffered fractures to six left ribs and his left arm, and now requires ongoing physiotherapy. Earlier, Bernama Chief Executive Officer Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin also presented contributions to Hafizul Andie Zulkarnain, 35, a journalist with Sabah News, who recently underwent surgery following complications from a twisted intestine and a ruptured appendix. When asked if additional funding would be allocated for the Kasih@Hawana Fund this year, Fahmi said the ministry would first utilise the remaining funds from two previous Hawana programmes, amounting to RM1 million, announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last year. 'We've requested Bernama to explore mechanisms to raise more funds for media practitioners, but for now, we need to exhaust the current allocation,' he said. The Kasih@Hawana Fund, an initiative by the Ministry of Communications and managed by Bernama, was launched in conjunction with National Journalists Day 2023. It reflects the government's empathy and appreciation for the media's role in society. To date, 463 media practitioners nationwide have benefitted from the fund. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sejati MADANI: Angkasa Seeks RM10 Mln In Additional Funds To Implement 100 New Projects

MELAKA, 26 JulaI (Bernama) -- Angkatan Koperasi Kebangsaan Malaysia Berhad (Angkasa) is seeking RM10 million in additional funds to facilitate wider participation of cooperative members in the Sejahtera Komuniti MADANI (SejaTi MADANI) programme. Angkasa president Datuk Seri Dr Abdul Fattah Abdullah said additional funds would be used to finance 100 new projects under the initiative, which has continued to show positive outcomes since it was launched last year. 'The additional funds are essential due to rising demand from cooperatives nationwide keen to take part in projects under the initiative involving the agriculture, tourism, recycling and food production sectors. 'This is because, out of more than 16,000 registered Angkasa members, only a small number have benefitted so far, and I believe the initiative needs to be expanded,' he told reporters after the launch of the Koperasi Usahawan Alor Gajah Melaka Berhad Freshwater Fish Farming Project at Jalan Kampung Rembia Tengah here today. The ceremony was officiated by Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, who is also the Alor Gajah Member of Parliament. Abdul Fattah explained that Angkasa had previously been allocated 20 SejaTi MADANI projects worth RM2 million, with four already completed, while the rest had achieved at least 80 per cent progress and were expected to be completed by year-end. 'For new projects under the additional funding, we will focus on food production, especially those that yield fast results and have a direct impact on the community. 'The issue of supply shortages and rising prices of chicken, fish and vegetables is not something new and it must be addressed,' he said. Meanwhile, Abdul Fattah said a strong governance structure, including an internal monitoring body and support from relevant agencies, has placed Angkasa on the right track to effectively implement the community-scale project.

Cautious outlook ahead for auto stocks

HLIB Research revised the total industry volume up to 770,000 from 750,000 for this year compared with 818,000 last year. PETALING JAYA: Automotive stocks continue to be weighed by a cloudy outlook for vehicle sales, with both national and non-national marques showing declines, according to figures released by the Malaysia Automotive Association (MAA) for June. Analysts covering automotive stocks remained cautious about the outlook as sales in the first half of the year dropped nearly 5% compared with the similar period a year ago. UOB Kay Hian (UOBKH) Research has maintained an 'underweight' call on automotive stocks, as competition remained intense with limited margin recovery and earnings upside. Its top pick remained Pecca Group Bhd , a producer of car seat covers, in which the research house has a 'buy' call and a target price (TP) of RM1.68. UOBKH Research noted that automotive stocks' valuation of 11.8 times was fair, given the muted earnings outlook and limited catalysts with upside potential likely capped in the near term. TA Research has maintained a 'neutral' recommendation, with the TIV forecast for this year of 700,000 units under review (MAA projected 780,000). The research house has a 'hold' call on Sime Darby Bhd with a TP of RM1.66, and 'sell' ratings on MBM Resources Bhd with a TP of RM4.31 and Bermaz Auto Bhd with a TP of 75 sen. Hong Leong Investment Bank (HLIB) Research, which has also maintained a 'neutral' stance on the stocks, pointed to intense competition from the entry of multiple new electric vehicle players challenging non-national marques amid competitive pricing strategies. It revised the total industry volume up to 770,000 from 750,000 for this year compared with 818,000 last year. Despite the challenges, the research house expected the market to normalise and saw upside potential, supported by exciting new model launches throughout the year and intensified marketing efforts by original equipment manufacturers aiming to sustain sales, albeit likely at the cost of margins. 'Order backlogs continued to decline in the second quarter of 2025 and are expected to soften further in the coming quarters, in line with weakening consumer sentiment amid a slowing economic outlook and the anticipated petrol subsidy rationalisation in the second half of 2025,' the research house said. HLIB Research projected automotive earnings to decline this year, driven by lower sales volumes and higher operating costs from more aggressive promotional activities but this would be partially offset by a stronger ringgit against the US dollar and Japanese yen. According to the research house, its top pick is MBM Resources with a 'buy' call and a TP of RM7.10, supported by exposure to national marques under Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd and dividend yields.
