Mysuru: In a major boost to the city's sporting infrastructure, the department of youth empowerment and sports (DYES) submitted a formal proposal to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (Muda) for the development of a world-class, multi-disciplinary sports complex at Hanchya-Sathagalli.Spanning over 25.2 acres of Muda-owned land, the complex is designed to accommodate a range of sporting disciplines, including athletics, cycling, Kho Kho, volleyball, wrestling, and basketball.

Key features of the proposed facility include a synthetic athletic track, an international-standard velodrome, dedicated basketball courts, and specialised academies for Kho-Kho, volleyball, and wrestling. This initiative, announced by chief minister Siddaramaiah in the recent state budget, aims to elevate Mysuru's status in the national sports arena and inspire more local youth to consider sports as a viable career. The original plan for an international cricket stadium on the site was cancelled due to the presence of a 2.28-acre waterbody. Instead of abandoning the project, DYES reimagined the space and chose to integrate the waterbody into the new plan. The rejuvenated waterbody will not only enhance the aesthetics of the complex but will also serve practical functions, including supporting ground maintenance and ecological sustainability.Strategically located adjacent to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) Regional Centre and along the Outer Ring Road, the new sports complex will also include sports hostel accommodation and practice grounds, making it a comprehensive training and competition hub.The long-pending velodrome, originally announced in the 2023–24 state budget but delayed due to land constraints, is a key highlight of the project. With 10 to 15 acres earmarked for the velodrome, the facility will also include pump tracks and dirt tracks to support various cycling disciplines, boosting Mysuru's prominence in competitive cycling.Speaking to TOI, Bhaskar Nayak, assistant director at DYES, confirmed that the proposal was formally submitted to Muda. "The engineering team is currently conducting a land survey and valuation. Once completed, the land will be transferred to DYES for the preparation of a detailed project report (DPR), which will include cost estimations. The project is in line with the
, which has earmarked Rs 2 crore each for establishing wrestling, volleyball, and Kho-Kho academies in Mysuru," he stated."The new complex is expected to ease the load on existing infrastructure such as Chamundi Vihar Stadium, enabling upgrades and facilitating Mysuru's emergence as a key regional centre for sports training and events," he said. With the development of this state-of-the-art facility, Mysuru is poised to become a major hub for national and international sports, providing enhanced opportunities for aspiring athletes and supporting the overall growth of the sporting ecosystem in Karnataka, officials said.

TCA brands entire HCA Council members ‘fraudsters' amidst audit scandal

Hyderabad: The Telangana Cricket Association (TCA) today alleged that the entire Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) Apex Council members, including the stalwart members who control HCA affairs, are fraudsters. Dharam Guruva Reddy, TCA general secretary, claimed that HCA members had 'copy pasted' the 2022-23 Financial Year Audit into the 2023-24 audit, asserting there was 'nothing new and no accountability.' Listing out the spending of the last two summer camps, Guruva Reddy stated that the money sent was Rs 15 lakh to each district two times in 2024 and 2025 as claimed by HCA. However, he noted that HCA books reflected, as claimed by the present HCA Body, that they sent Rs 20 lakh and Rs 25 lakh two times in 2024 and 2025 to each district. 'Which one is correct?' he questioned. The TCA general secretary called for investigating agencies to cross-check the HCA 2023-24 Audit report. He highlighted that while it was dated for the June 29 Annual General Meeting (AGM) presentation, the entire audit and material were from 2022-23, and all AGM attendees passed it without any questions. In a recent development, HCA president A Jagan Mohan Rao, Secretary R Devraj, and Treasurer CJ Srinivasa Rao were suspended at the Apex Council meeting. This is seen as a critical decision taken by the Apex Council, having reportedly followed the rules by digging deep and taking action against three office bearers who were facing criminal charges in a CID case by the government.

Pending aid to sports assns by Oct, says Sawant

Porvorim: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday assured the House that pending grants of various sports associations in Goa — running into crores of rupees — would be cleared by Oct in all cases where utilisation certificates have been submitted by the associations to govt. Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai raised the issue in the House, stating that while the govt called football a state sport, Rs 11 crore aid is pending. He said that only Rs 2.5 lakh of the earmarked Rs 72 lakh for football over four years has been paid so far by govt. 'If you don't give grants, you will not get results. For associations of sports like athletics, boxing, badminton, and sepak takraw with a good number of members, no grants have been given by govt. Whereas, grants have been given to associations for yogasana and pencak silat, which have few or no members. For the Goa Badminton Association, Rs 10.8 lakh of grants have been kept pending. Why?' said Sardesai. The MLA also questioned the logic behind providing Khelo India Centres at only Sanquelim and Ponda. 'We will have Khelo India centres in all 12 talukas in a phased manner,' replied Sawant.

Decathlon aims to scale sourcing from India to $3bn by 2030

French sports retailer Decathlon on Tuesday said it will increase sourcing of goods from India for its global operations to USD 3 billion by 2030. Decathlon has been sourcing from India for the last 25 years and is committed to its "Make in India" vision and its focus on local production capabilities to serve both domestic and global markets, the company said. This growth will be driven by a focused push in high-potential categories such as footwear, fitness equipment, and technical textiles, which will be designed to meet the evolving demands of both Indian consumers and global markets, it added. "Currently, India accounts for 8 per cent of Decathlon's global sourcing quantities," the French retailer in a statement, adding that the goal is to scale this to 15 per cent by 2030. For the India retail operations, Decathlon's local sourcing is over 70 per cent of the quantities sold in India in 2025. "This figure is expected to rise to 90 per cent by 2030, reinforcing the brand's focus on its local sourcing strategy," according to Decathlon. Decathlon's local production ecosystem includes a Design Centre supported by 113 manufacturing sites, 83 suppliers, and 7 production offices across India. "India has evolved into a cornerstone of Decathlon's global production ecosystem -- not just in terms of scale, but in its ability to deliver quality, innovation, and speed," Frederic Merlevede, Head of Decathlon Production said. Merlevede further noted that, "Our long-term investment in India reflects the deep trust we've built with our partners and the strong potential we see in key categories like footwear, fitness equipment, and beyond". Last year, Decathlon had announced to invest 100 million euros (around Rs 933 crore) in India, it is one of the fastest growing markets, to expand retail footprint and manufacturing operations. Decathlon currently operates 132 stores across 55 cities in India.
