NHL Playoffs: St. Louis Blues at Winnipeg Jets odds, picks and predictions
The St. Louis Blues take on the Winnipeg Jets in Game 2 of this best-of-7 series in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs Monday. Puck drop from Canada Life Centre is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2). Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's NHL odds around the Blues vs. Jets odds and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.
Season series: Jets lead 1-0 after 5-3 Game 1 win Saturday
The Blues had it in their grasps, but rookie mistakes that led to shifted momentum gave Winnipeg the opening it needed to break through. The Blues were up 3-2 before RW Zach Bolduc was called for a cross-checking penalty during a power play in the third period. That really gave the Jets some steam, and they tied the game a few minutes later and went ahead 4-3 with about 90 seconds to go. The Blues had an astounding 53 hits and were the better team for the first half of the game, but they failed to close it out. RW Jordan Kyrou and C Robert Thomas each scored on the power play, but the Blues only had 1 SOG in the final period.
LW Kyle Connor is a Blues killer and had 1 goal and 2 assists in Game 1. G Connor Hellebuyck is going to need to tighten up, though, as he allowed 3 goals on 17 shots. Granted, 2 of them were on the power play, but that showed a weakness in what is arguably the best goalie in the sport. Structurally, though, the Jets really tightened up later in the game, and they took advantage of St. Louis' inexperience. You have to wonder how much the Blues' 53 hits took out of them, though.

: Blues +1.5 (-165) | Jets -1.5 (+140) Over/Under (O/U): 5.5 (O: +118 | U: -140)
Blues at Jets projected goalies
Jordan Binnington (28-22-5, 2.69 GAA, .900 SV%, 3 SO in regular season) vs. Connor Hellebuyck (47-12-3, 2.01 GAA, .925 SV%, 8 SO in regular season)
Binner stopped 21 of 25 in the Game 1 loss, and MoneyPuck didn't grade his performance well as he is a -1.8 in goals saved above expected. His defense didn't play very well in front of him as D Colton Parayko showed signs of rust in just his third game back from injury. Regardless, his back is against the wall in this one as they'll need a monstrous performance to even it up.
Hellebuyck was also a -1.2 goals saved above expected in Game 1. He'll need to shore things up as the Blues were expected for 1.82 goals and netted 3. He is getting beat top shelf on both sides. The first period will be a huge litmus test for a goalie that has playoff ghosts.

Blues at Jets picks and predictions
Prediction
Blues 4, Jets 3
This is Game 7 for the Blues. They need to steal one of these to make it a series, and the books have also accounted for that. Winnipeg was -210 in Game 1, and it's -190 here. I look for the Blues to continue making Winnipeg black and blue with hits and finding a way to get this done in overtime.
Take the BLUES (+160).
We cashed a +135 puck line for the Jets here in Game 1, but this one will be a slugfest I see ending within a goal.
So we're going with JORDAN KYROU OVER 2.5 SHOTS (-110). He has 4, 4, 5 and 5 the last 4 games, and his confidence is on another level right now. The Blues shifted LW Jake Neighbours down to his line and put rookie winger Jimmy Snuggerud on the top line. Neighbours is more of a net-front presence, and they'll be looking to feed Rouzy.
I was a little surprised we had 4 goals in the first period of Game 1. This feels like an Under kind of series with the 2 netminders. For Game 2, I love the OVER 5.5 (+118). This is going to get messy early on. I could see a fight breaking out within the first 5 minutes as the Blues try to get into the Jets' heads to capitalize. The Over feels safe at plus-money here.

Romano's unexpected 'here we go' creates questions about Chelsea strategy

Things are moving quickly at Chelsea at the moment, especially in terms of outgoing players, and last night's news from Fabrizio Romano caught us all a little on the hop. We have all been following the main storylines of the week – Joao Felix and Renato Veiga have been the dominant figures – but then something sneaks up on us from nowhere. Romano gives 'here we go' to Chelsea defender departure Fabrizio Romano gives a here we go out of the Blues. Fabrizio Romano reported out of the Blue that Mamadou Sarr, the young French centre back who Chelsea signed from Strasbourg this summer, would be going back to his former team on loan. Sarr has been training with the team at the Club World Cup and made his debut there, but at some point the decision has been made to send him back the Alsatians. Chelsea's strange Sarr decision asks questions This is an odd move because it means Chelsea have used up one of their precious foreign loan slots. As many have pointed out, the sensible way to sign him if they wanted him to stay put was to just agree a deal to take place next summer, as they have with Geovany Quenda. The only explanation is that there's been a change of plans, and it's a costly one. There are big name players who need clubs and youngsters who need to be developed. Taking away a slot costs opportunities. It's great news for Strasbourg, of course, who Romano mentions are planning for an upcoming season with 'top 5 ambitions.' They can lose out in the sister club relationship with Chelsea at times, but in this case they're certainly being kept strong, and we'd expect more additions in the weeks to come. It's also good news for Benoit Badiashile, who looks ever more entrenched as a squad option that Enzo Maresca is happy to rely on.

Flames' Rookie Phenom Zayne Parekh Ready for Prime Time

The Calgary Flames may have found a future cornerstone on the blue line—and his name is Zayne Parekh. Any time a young defenceman gets mentioned in the same breath as Bobby Orr, the hockey world takes notice. For Parekh, it's not just talk—it's backed by record-breaking numbers, dazzling offensive instincts, and a resume that has already turned heads at the NHL level. The Flames selected Parekh ninth overall in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft, and wasted little time locking him up with an entry-level contract on July 5, 2024. Now, at just 19 years old, the Nobleton, Ontario, native is poised to make his mark in Calgary—and across the league. Parekh was electric during his time with the Saginaw Spirit in the Ontario Hockey League, rewriting the franchise record books with a 33-goal, 96-point campaign over 66 regular-season games in 2023-24. He followed that up with a jaw-dropping 33 goals and 74 assists for 107 points, with a plus-42 ranking in 61 games last season. In doing so, Parekh joined the legendary Bobby Orr as the only defencemen in OHL/OHA history to post multiple 30-goal seasons. His dominance earned him the Max Kaminsky Trophy as the OHL's Most Outstanding Defenceman in 2024 and received 2024 CHL Defenceman of the Year honours, solidifying his reputation as one of the most gifted offensive blueliners in recent memory. The Hockey News (@TheHockeyNews) on X The regular NHL season schedule is out, with Marner set to return to Toronto on January 23, 2026. THN Hosts @Michael_Traikos, @katie_gaus , and @THNRyanKennedy debate Toronto's reception of Marner after being traded to Vegas, the latest NHL news, and more on the newest episode The real question now: How will it translate to the NHL? If his brief debut last season is any indication, Flames fans have plenty to be excited about. Parekh suited up for Calgary in a late-season matchup against the Los Angeles Kings and didn't disappoint—scoring his first NHL goal and finishing with a plus-3 rating. Heading into the 2025–26 campaign, has Parekh slotted at No. 7 in its Top 10 Rookie Rankings. With elite vision, an innate sense for offence, and a poise well beyond his years, Parekh is set to become a key part of Calgary's rebuild—and quite possibly its future star on the blueline. © Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images

Hockey Canada announces full coaching staff for 2026 Winter Olympics

The entire coaching staff of Canada's gold-medal team from this year's 4 Nations Face-Off is set to return at the 2026 Milan Cortina Olympics, ensuring continuity behind the Canadian bench for the first Winter Games with NHL players since 2014. Assistant coaches Bruce Cassidy, Pete DeBoer, Rick Tocchet, Misha Donskov and Dave Alexander will all be back, Hockey Canada announced on Monday. Along with head coach Jon Cooper, the staff for Canada's national men's hockey team brings more than 50 combined seasons of NHL head coaching experience. Four assistant coaches are joining Jon Cooper's staff for #MilanoCortina2026. 🇨🇦 Quatre entraîneurs adjoints épauleront Jon Cooper à Milan et à Cortina en 2026. 🇨🇦 🍁 Bruce Cassidy🍁 Peter DeBoer🍁 Rick Tocchet🍁 Misha Donskov@TeamCanada | @EquipeCanada — Hockey Canada (@HockeyCanada) July 21, 2025 Cassidy has led the Vegas Golden Knights for the past three seasons, which includes a Stanley Cup victory in 2022-23. DeBoer most recently served as coach of the Dallas Stars before his firing in June; he has been to the Western Conference final in six of the last eight years, with three different teams. Tocchet is entering his first season as coach of the Philadelphia Flyers, following three seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, highlighted by a Jack Adams Award-winning year in 2023-24. Advertisement Donskov was hired by Hockey Canada as vice president of hockey operations in June after two seasons as an assistant under DeBoer in Dallas and a successful Cup run under Cassidy in Vegas. The national team's goaltending consultant, Alexander, is entering his ninth season as goaltending coach for the St. Louis Blues, having coached Jordan Binnington, who backstopped Canada to the 4 Nations championship, both with the Blues and on the international stage. The general manager of Canada's Olympic team, Doug Armstrong, occupies the same role for St. Louis. The staff also includes director of performance analysis James Emery and video coordinator Elliott Mondou. It was chosen by Cooper, who has won two Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning, alongside Armstrong and other members of the Hockey Canada management team. Canada has already announced its first six players for the Olympic roster in Milan Cortina, where it will look to pick up from a gold-medal performance at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the last with NHL participation. Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid, Nathan MacKinnon, Cale Makar, Brayden Point and Sam Reinhart will all be in the lineup, but the final preliminary rosters, consisting of 22 skaters and three goalies, don't have to be submitted until December 31.
