First but not last: 2026 wide receiver commits to Alabama over SEC, Big Ten schools

Alabama football has picked up its first commitment at wide receiver from the class of 2026. Three-star Tennessee receiver Owen Cabell announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide on Monday. Listed as 6-foot-3, 201 pounds, Cabell chose Alabama over a number of SEC and Big Ten schools, including Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin and Vanderbilt. Advertisement The addition of Cabell gives Alabama 15 hard commitments in the class of 2026. Cabell, who plays for Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, is the seventh offensive player to commit to coach Kalen DeBoer, whose team has risen significantly in the various industry recruiting rankings after a big month in June. In the past week alone, Alabama has landed 5-star EDGE Xavier Griffin from Gainesville (Ga.), 5-star running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala.), 4-star tight end Mack Sutter from Dunlap, Ill., and 3-star recruits Javari Barnett (running back, Tampa), Rihyael Kelley (safety, Cincinnati) and Zay Hall (linebacker; Hillcrest High School in Tuscaloosa). After the Crimson Tide's recent run in recruiting, 247Sports ranks Alabama with the No. 8 overall class in 2026. On3 has them at No. 9. Cabell is ranked as the No. 939 overall recruit in 2026 by On3, which lists him as the nation's 145th wide receiver. He recently clocked a 4.4 in the 40-yard dash, according to a video shared to social media. At wide receiver, DeBoer and staff are also targeting 5-star in-state recruit Cederian Morgan from Alexander City and 3-star Sunshine State target Brian Williams out of Orlando. Cooper Flagg Headlines a Scary New Big Three in Dallas

Cooper Flagg Headlines a Scary New Big Three in Dallas originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cooper Flagg era has officially begun in Dallas as the Mavericks drafted him with the No. 1 overall pick in Wednesday night's NBA draft at the Barclays Center. Advertisement The 18-year-old phenom is the second-youngest player to be drafted at No.1, behind Lebron James. 'I'm so excited and ready to get down to Dallas and get to work. I think I'm just gonna try to be an impact player, do anything I can to try and fit in and just help the team win,' Flagg said. The Mavericks will now have three No. 1 overall picks on the roster in Flagg (2025), Anthony Davis (2012), and Kyrie Irving (2011). 'Everybody wants to be number one—until the pressure sets in, I've been there,' Irving said in a message to Flagg. 'You talk about being able to handle the pressure, the expectations, the rise, the fall, the climb back to the top. Advertisement 'To be number one, to live in the pressure, to become the pressure. The moment, the poise, the accolades, the unseen work—from Gatorade, Naismith, AP, Erving, Wooden, ACC Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, but they'll never be satisfied. Until you do it again, and again, and again.' Flagg enters the league with high expectations, widely regarded as the NBA's next generational talent. He's a high-impact player on both ends of the floor, capable of creating his own shot and defending positions one through four. There's optimism in Dallas that Irving will return from injury in January—and once the Mavericks' trio of No. 1 overall picks finally share the court, it could be scary hours for the rest of the league. Paige Bueckers Sends Message to Dallas Mavericks' Cooper Flagg

Paige Bueckers Sends Message to Dallas Mavericks' Cooper Flagg originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It's an exciting time to be a basketball fan in the city of Dallas as the Mavericks and Wings drafted the No. 1 picks in both the WNBA and NBA this year. The Wings selected Paige Bueckers back in April, and the Mavericks drafted Cooper Flagg on Wednesday night. Advertisement Both Bueckers and Flagg are considered generational prospects—with Bueckers already backing up the hype early in her WNBA rookie season. The Wings combo guard is averaging 17.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Bueckers recently offered encouraging words for her fellow No. 1 pick after hearing his name called on draft night. "Hey, Cooper, it's Paige here from the Dallas Wings. From one No. 1 pick to another, just wanted to say congratulations," Bueckers said in a video posted by the Mavericks. "Super excited to have you here in Dallas. I know you worked extremely hard to get here, so continue to keep trusting your work, and let's make this city proud. Excited to see you soon, and congratulations again." Bueckers attended the Mavericks' watch party at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday, where she spoke about the high expectations placed on both her and Flagg as top overall selections. Advertisement "I'm not really new to expectations, honestly, but they exist," Bueckers said. "I know Cooper thinks a lot the same, we have expectations for ourselves and the standards we set for ourselves. ... Do what has gotten you there, stick to that." Dallas is just the second city ever to receive No. 1 overall picks in both the NBA and WNBA drafts in the same year. Both the Wings and Mavericks will be in good hands for years to come, as the Bueckers and Flagg eras are officially underway.
