Nitish sets target of one crore jobs over next 5 years

Time of India2 days ago
Patna: CM Nitish Kumar on Sunday announced that his govt would provide jobs and employment opportunities to 1 crore youth in Bihar over the next five years, from 2025 to 2030.
He also declared plans to establish a specialised skill university named after Bharat Ratna Jannayak Karpoori Thakur to strengthen vocational training and self-employment among the youth.
The announcement assumes significance in the context of the upcoming assembly elections later this year.
"In the next five years (2025 to 2030), we are setting a target to double our 2020-25 goal by providing govt jobs and employment to one crore young people," Nitish said in a post on social media platform X. "To achieve this, new job and employment opportunities will be created, particularly in the private and industrial sectors.
A high-level committee is being formed to oversee this initiative," he added.
The CM highlighted his govt's consistent efforts since 2005 to increase employment in Bihar. "Between 2005 and 2020, over eight lakh young people were given govt jobs in the state," he said.
Nitish went on to explain that under the Saat Nishchay-2 programme, launched in 2020, the govt had initially resolved to provide 10 lakh jobs and another 10 lakh employment opportunities.

This target was later expanded to 12 lakh govt jobs and 38 lakh employment opportunities by Aug 2025, bringing the total to 50 lakh.
"I am pleased to inform you that so far, 10 lakh young people have been given govt jobs and around 39 lakh have gained employment opportunities in the state. The target of providing over 50 lakh jobs and employment will certainly be achieved," Nitish added.
"In line with this, we are now setting a new target to double the 2020-25 goal, aiming to provide jobs and employment to one crore youth between 2025 and 2030," he said.
Highlighting ongoing efforts in skill development, the CM said, "Currently, under the Saat Nishchay, the state's youth are being provided with skill development training to connect them with self-employment. Over the next five years, this programme will be expanded."
He added, "A skill university will soon be established for skill development training, to be named after Bharat Ratna Jannayak Karpoori Thakur.
This will provide a new direction for the youth of the state."
The JD(U) welcomed the announcements. Party spokesperson Arvind Kumar Nishad said, "The Nitish Kumar-led govt not only makes promises but also implements them at the grassroots level. Through the Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Skill University, Bihar will move in a new direction where every hand will have a skill and every youth will have an opportunity."
