Zamalek newly appointed coach Yannick Ferrera vows to meet fans' expectations - Egyptian Football
The 44-year-old Belgian signed a one-year deal with the Cairo giants, replacing interim coach Ayman El-Ramady ahead of the 2025/26 Egyptian Premier League season, which begins on 8 August.
'I held quick negotiations with Zamalek's management as we shared a mutual desire to work together,' Ferrera said in comments published on the club's official website.
'Zamalek is one of the biggest clubs in Egypt. I read that they were the best club of the 20th century, and I hope now to make them the best of the 21st century,' he added.
The Belgian coach pledged full commitment from day one.
'If we work together, we will achieve victories. I promise Zamalek's supporters that the players will fight from the first day to the last,' he said.
Ferrera arrived in Cairo late on Thursday to finalise the deal and begin preparations for the new season.
He brings experience from Belgium's top flight, having previously managed Standard Liege and Sint-Truiden.
He won the Belgian Cup with Standard Liege in the 2015–16 season and led Sint-Truiden to promotion from the Belgian Second Division in 2014.

Chelsea add Gittens to glut of attacking talent - World
Chelsea added England under-21 international winger Jamie Gittens to their array of attacking talent on Saturday from Borussia Dortmund. The Blues will reportedly pay an initial £48.5 million ($66 million) for the 20-year-old, who was in Chelsea's academy as a youth player, with a further £3.5 million in add-ons. Gittens eventually moved to Manchester City's academy before signing for Dortmund in 2022. He made 107 appearances for the German giants, scoring 17 goals, 12 of which came in the Bundesliga and Champions League last season. "It's a great feeling to join such a big club as Chelsea," said Gittens. "I can't wait to learn from everyone in the team and to push myself to the max here. It's an amazing feeling." Gittens became Chelsea's fifth signing of another big-spending summer, joining forwards Liam Delap and Joao Pedro, midfielder Dario Essugo and defender Mamadou Sarr. Brazilian rising star Estevao Willian, 18, will also join the Premier League giants, in a deal agreed last year, after scoring against Chelsea in Palmerias' 2-1 Club World Cup quarter-final defeat on Friday. Gittens, though, will not be eligible to feature in Chelsea's semi-final against Fluminense on Tuesday or the final should the Blues progress. "Jamie Gittens' career exemplifies the development of top talents at BVB," said Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken. "We discovered him very early, signed him almost at no cost, continuously developed him in our youth academy, and provided him with playing time at the highest professional level. "Jamie has repaid that trust with dedication, performance, and goals. His transfer back to his home country would be highly valuable for us." Chelsea are under pressure to recoup some of their transfer spend in sales over the coming months. On Friday, they were fined 31 million euros by UEFA for two breaches of financial sustainability rules, with a further 60 million euros suspended as part of a four-year settlement agreement. Moreover, Chelsea, who have qualified for the Champions League, cannot register any new players for European competition unless they earn more from transfer sales than they spend on new signings. 'Rarely been so angry': Bayern's Kompany seethes after Musiala injury
The 22-year-old Germany international fell and appeared to suffer a severe ankle injury after an innocuous collision in play with PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma during the French side's 2-0 quarter-final victory in Atlanta. Musiala was taken off on a stretcher and replaced by Serge Gnabry for the second half. "I've rarely been so angry at half-time, not against my players," Kompany told reporters. "There are many things in life that are much more important than this, but in the end, for these guys, it's their life. "Someone like Jamal lives for this and he (recently) came back from a setback. And then it happens in the way it happens and you feel powerless." Kompany said he wanted his Bayern side to try and find motivation in the injury against the European champions. "You try and get strength out of it because you want to do it for Jamal," explained the Belgian coach. "When I'm sat here next to you now, the thing that gets my blood still boiling at the moment, it's not the result. "I understand this is football, but it's the fact that it happened to someone that, for one, enjoys the game so much, but also is very important for us. "It didn't look good... it looks like an ankle injury of some type, but I'm not going to make a diagnosis here." PSG players also showed support for the youngster -- one of football's most promising young talents. "A shout-out to Jamal Musiala, who suffered a serious injury, it's something you do not want to see on the field," PSG defender Marquinhos told DAZN. "It's important we talk about Jamal Musiala," said Achraf Hakimi. "I want to give my support to him. We hope to see him back on the pitch soon." Tennis: Djokovic 100 not out, into fourth round at Wimbledon - Omni sports
Novak Djokovic recorded his 100th win at Wimbledon with a dominant victory over Serbian Davis Cup team-mate Miomir Kecmanovic on Saturday to remain on course for a record 25th Grand Slam title. Djokovic said before a ball was struck at the All England Club this year that Wimbledon presented his best chance to surpass the 24 majors won by the long-retired Australian Margaret Court. A seven-time champion in south-west London, Djokovic is showing he is a credible contender for his first Slam victory since 2023. The 38-year-old has dropped just 12 games in his last two matches after romping to a 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 victory in just under two hours on court. Djokovic's 100 wins puts him behind only Roger Federer's 105 victories in the men's game and nine-time winner Martina Navratilova's all-time record of 120. Conserving his energy could prove vital in the second week with Djokovic likely to have to beat both the world's top two players, Jannik Sinner and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz, if he is to lift the trophy on July 13. He faces Australian 11th seed Alex de Minaur in the fourth round. (For more sports news and updates, follow Ahram Online Sports on Twitter at @AO_Sports and on Facebook at AhramOnlineSports.)
