DUBAI (WAM) The UAE Food Bank has announced a strategic partnership with the National Food Loss and Waste Initiative 'Ne'ma,' aiming to enhance support for eligible groups and contribute to environmental sustainability.This will be done through a pioneering initiative that manages surplus food, reduces waste, and ensures its delivery to the largest possible number of target groups within the country.The initiative is part of charitable and humanitarian efforts during the holy month of Ramadan this year.The initiative aims to provide one million meals from surplus food to deserving segments of the community during the holy month, now in its third consecutive year. It aligns with the UAE's vision to promote social and environmental responsibility, especially following the declaration of 2025 as the "Year of the Community."The initiative involves collaboration with over 75 hotel establishments to collect and distribute untouched surplus food to eligible recipients.It will be implemented in Dubai in cooperation with the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.The initiative focuses on the safe and efficient management of food surplus to minimise waste. The UAE Food Bank will collect consumable surplus food and redistribute it to beneficiaries across the UAE.Meanwhile, inedible food will be converted into oil and agricultural compost in collaboration with the 'Reloop' app by iCycle International Recycling, contributing to environmental protection and supporting circular economy principles.Chief Sustainability Officer at Emirates Foundation and Secretary General of the 'Ne'ma' Committee, Khuloud Hassan Al Nowais, stated, "The cooperation between 'Ne'ma' and the UAE Food Bank is a key step towards unifying efforts to enhance resource sustainability and reduce food waste in society. Through this partnership, we are working together on developing innovative, technology-supported solutions for distributing food safely and efficiently, reflecting our deep commitment to social responsibility, environmental protection, and the UAE's goal to significantly reduce food waste."
Head of the Executive Team at the UAE Food Bank, Manal Bin Yaroof, said, "This collaboration is part of a long-term strategic vision to address the issue of food waste in the UAE in a comprehensive and sustainable way. It supports the UAE Food Bank's goals and vision of achieving leadership and sustainability in surplus food management—collecting, preserving, and delivering it with the highest quality to those in need, anytime and anywhere. It reflects the values of generosity and giving that the Bank has embraced since its inception."

Abu Dhabi led the upswing, posting exceptional gains despite the Ramadan season being a traditionally slow UAE capital recorded a substantial 28.1% year-on-year increase in Average Daily Rate (ADR) for the year to date through March upward trend in rates propelled a 26.7% increase in Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR), even as occupancy slightly decreased by 1.0 percentage point during the same on this momentum, JLL anticipates a potential surge in new project launches across the emirate.'The substantial increase in KPIs has enhanced the emirate's commercial appeal to a broader spectrum of developers,' the report stated. 'These improved rates now justify and support new hotel developments, effectively transforming Abu Dhabi into a more attractive market for hospitality investments.'Hotel stock in Abu Dhabi remained stable at 33,100 keys in Q1, with no new completions. However, around 600 new keys are set to be delivered by year-end, and a total of 1,500 keys are expected to be added over the next three travel is expected to be a key revenue driver for the hospitality sector, with luxury operators likely to command an advantage over others through high-end food and beverage offerings. Abu Dhabi – The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, is participating in the 21st Liwa Date Festival 2025. The event, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, runs from 14 to 27 July in Liwa City, Al Dhafra region, and is organised by the Abu Dhabi Heritage Authority. ITC is participating in support of national efforts to promote sustainability and harness modern technology to enhance the mobility sector. Its involvement also reinforces the festival's role as a platform that brings together heritage, innovation, and sustainable development, in line with the 2025 'Year of the Community'. ITC's presence at the event further underscores its dedication to community engagement and to delivering smart, sustainable mobility solutions that serve all segments of society. As part of its participation, the ITC showcased a selection of its leading initiatives in smart and sustainable mobility. Among them was the Autonomous Mobility project, which saw the expansion of autonomous taxi operations to include the roads leading to Zayed International Airport, building on the services already available on Saadiyat and Yas Islands. The Centre also highlighted its ongoing efforts to enhance and expand electric vehicle charging infrastructure, in support of the emirate's shift towards sustainable mobility and its goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2050. As part of its efforts to develop and regulate the freight transport sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the Integrated Transport Centre has worked to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of freight vehicle operations through the implementation of the freight transport regulations via the 'Asateel' digital platform. The platform is designed to empower operators and individual owners of freight vehicles, particularly those serving the agriculture and livestock sectors, to monitor and track their vehicles in real time through a fully integrated electronic system that uses advanced tracking devices. The Asateel platform provides users with real-time data on vehicle locations, driver behaviour, and operating schedules. This contributes to more efficient fleet management, reduced operational costs, and improved compliance with approved regulations and standards. The Centre noted that the project forms part of a broader strategy to upgrade the digital infrastructure of the transport sector and enhance both safety and efficiency, in line with Abu Dhabi's digital transformation vision and its commitment to sustainable development across various economic sectors. During its participation, the Integrated Transport Centre also highlighted key achievements in the maritime transport sector through a number of pioneering projects, including 'MARSDNA' – an advanced digital tool developed to support companies operating within the framework of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards. The platform, accessible via an online questionnaire on the Abu Dhabi Maritime website, generates tailored executive reports to assess sustainability readiness and provide a clear, actionable roadmap. The Centre also presented the updated 'Al Nalia' application, which has been transformed into a unified and integrated platform for all marine services for waterway users. The app now includes several features such as weather updates, safety maps, e-services, ticket booking, and maritime alerts, as well as enabling users to report violations. These enhancements improve the overall user experience and contribute to a well-organised and safe maritime environment. As part of its efforts to expand sustainable maritime transport, the Centre showcased 'Skoun', the largest boat made using 3D printing technology. This project represents an innovative step towards enhancing eco-friendly mobility options in Abu Dhabi's waters. Alongside its participation in the festival, the Centre presented the Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Disclosure Report for the maritime sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The report outlines the ESG framework for the sector and aims to provide guidance on integrating sustainability principles into maritime operations, supporting the sector's journey towards sustainability and reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a regional leader in ESG practices. In the aviation sector, the Centre highlighted its work in developing regulations and legislation for unmanned aerial vehicles (drones). It has contributed to a significant transformation in Abu Dhabi's drone regulatory framework by issuing guidelines for civil use and related activities. This is achieved through the Federal Drone Traffic Management System (UTM), a comprehensive platform designed to regulate and manage drone activity in the airspace, ensuring safe operations, maintaining airspace integrity, improving system efficiency, and minimising the risk of incidents. It is worth noting that the Liwa Date Festival is one of the United Arab Emirates' leading cultural and agricultural events. The festival highlights the importance of the palm tree in the national identity, raises awareness about sustainable farming, and supports local farmers. It also contributes to economic and tourism activity in the Al Dhafra region and serves as an annual platform that bridges authentic heritage with modern development. The data highlights how Chinese eCommerce apps continue to dominate user acquisition (UA) spending in one of the world's top mobile-first economies. In the first half of 2025, Chinese apps accounted for 73% of all UA spend in the UAE. France followed with 13%, and India with 8%, driven by focused campaigns and expat-centric strategies. The report pointed to growing competition from overseas brands. As a result, local eCommerce retailers saw their UA investments shrink. This trend reflects budget reallocations, rising pressure from international players, and market consolidation. AppsFlyer experts noted that local brands still have growth opportunities. However, success will require clear strategies and performance-driven, localised campaigns. Sue Azari, Industry Lead eCommerce at AppsFlyer, explained that Chinese apps have long targeted markets outside China. She said the UAE is a natural fit due to its premium audience and digital maturity. French apps are focusing on iOS users, while Indian advertisers likely see strong potential in the UAE's South Asian expat population. AppsFlyer also reported strong growth for iOS in the UAE. While Android app installs are projected to grow 713% since 2017, iOS installs are expected to rise by 1383% over the same period. Year-on-year, iOS installs are forecast to more than double in 2025. At the same time, iOS fraud rates dropped 63% year-on-year in H1 2025. Android's fraud rate, however, rose 234% in the same period. This indicates iOS is becoming a safer and more attractive platform for marketers, despite Android's scale. The report also revealed a decline in overall UA spending. In H1 2025, Android UA spend fell 21% compared to the same period in 2024. iOS spend declined only 6%, showing more resilience. Yet, the period also saw record-high remarketing investments. Q1 2025 remarketing spend tripled compared to Q1 2024 Ramadan and retail events played a major role in early-year performance Azari encouraged marketers to align campaigns with seasonal peaks like Ramadan and build remarketing strategies to sustain engagement afterward. She also noted that declining Android UA spend may offer cost-effective inventory for savvy brands. AppsFlyer concluded that the UAE remains a competitive market for mobile commerce. Advertisers who balance premium iOS strategies with cost-effective Android engagement and adapt budgets to seasonal trends are best positioned for success.
