Choosing between a BA (Hons) in Economics and a BCom (Hons) is a pivotal decision for students aspiring to pursue careers in business, economics, or public policy. Although both programs offer academic strengths, they differ significantly in their focus, skill sets, and future prospects.

The BA (Hons) Economics program is designed for students who prefer a theoretical approach to studying analytical thinking, mathematical modeling, and economic systems. This degree encompasses a wide range of topics, including microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics, development economics, public policy, and the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in policy framing. It is an excellent option for students interested in data-driven decision-making, economic research, or careers in policy-oriented organisations, think tanks, and international institutions. Graduates are well-prepared to secure professional employment in the government sector, central banks, consulting companies, and international financial organizations. Furthermore, the economics degree provides a solid foundation for pursuing MA Economics, MBA, or public policy programs at esteemed international universities.
In contrast, the BCom (Hons) programme is an industry-focused course that provides practical knowledge in accounting, finance, marketing, taxation, and corporation law. It prepares students for corporate careers in finance, auditing, banking, and management. The curriculum is vocationally oriented, addressing the immediate demands of the industry and working life. This degree is ideal for students preparing for professional courses such as CA, CMA, CFA, and is highly valued in the commerce and corporate sector job market.
When deciding between these two programmes, students should consider their career goals. The BA Economics is more suited to careers in economic consultancy, the civil service, and policy-making, particularly for those interested in shaping macro-economic policy or development policy.
On the other hand, BCom (Hons) provides a direct route to business operations, corporate finance, and entrepreneurship, making it suitable for students who aspire to manage or own businesses.
Students interested in working at the interface of economic policy, development, and global strategy, the BA (Hons) Economics may have an edge. Conversely, for those interested in careers in corporate, accounting, and business leadership, BCom (Hons) is the better gateway.

Delhi University UG Admissions 2025 Big Update: Phase I CSAS portal begins from July 8; Seat allocation on this date
Delhi University Admissions 2025: In its recent press release, Delhi University (DU) is set to launch the second phase of its undergraduate admissions for the 2025 academic session under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS-UG) from July 8, 2025. Candidates who have already gone through phase one of the process can log in to the online official portal to make their list of preference for the combinations of college and courses. Interested candidates can refer to the given link:- The window for preference filling will be open between July 8th to July 14th last by 11:59 PM after which the preferences will be locked automatically. Candidates can accept their allotted seats from the second list last by 4:59PM of July 30th, 2025. UGC NET 2025: The National Testing Agency has released the provisional answer key along with question papers and candidates' recorded responses for the University Grants Commission (UGC) National Eligibility Test (NET) June 2025. Delhi court declares UK-based arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari fugitive economic offender
A Delhi court on Saturday declared United Kingdom-based arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari a fugitive economic offender in a case pertaining to tax evasion and money laundering, reported The Indian Express. The order was passed by Additional Sessions Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal of Tis Hazari court on an application moved by the Enforcement Directorate under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, according to The Hindu. It will enable the Enforcement Directorate to confiscate Bhandari's assets worth crores of rupees. Bhandari is accused of defrauding the Indian income tax authorities between July 1, 2015, and February 7, 2017, by submitting two tax returns in which he deliberately hid details about his foreign assets and foreign income. As a resident of India at the time, the 63-year-old was obligated to pay tax on all his global assets and income. In 2016, Bhandari fled India for London, despite a lookout notice against him. In October 2016, a case was registered against him under the Official Secrets Act after confidential defence ministry documents were recovered from his residence during an Income Tax department raid. The Enforcement Directorate had told a Delhi court in April that a court in the UK has rejected its appeal for Bhandari's extradition. In its application to declare the arms dealer a fugitive economic offender, the central agency claimed that the UK court's order had no bearing on Indian proceedings against Bhandari, reported ANI. Bhandari opposed the application, stating that his stay in London is legal, as the London High Court had refused his extradition. His counsel, Senior Advocate Maninder Singh, claimed that the Enforcement Directorate's plea was unclear, improperly filed, and did not meet the legal standards under the Fugitive Offenders Act. On Saturday, the court stated it was 'satisfied that Bhandari, against whom an warrant of arrest has been issued…has left India so as to avoid criminal prosecution', reported The Indian Express. 'Further, this court is satisfied that the total value of the schedule offence is `100 crore or more,' said Aggarwal. He added that the 'extradition attempt may have failed, but it will not make the accused an angel or immune to prosecution for the violation of Indian laws'. Bhandari has alleged that he had faced 'undue harassment and pressure' from several enforcement agencies to 'compel him to give false statements against the political opponents of the government'. He fled India due to this 'harassment', he claimed. Besides tax evasion, Bhandari is also one of the accused in a case of alleged corruption in the procurement of Pilatus trainer aircraft in 2009. In June 2019, the Central Bureau of Investigation had filed a case against Bhandari and unknown officials of the Indian Air Force, Defence Ministry and Switzerland-based Pilatus Aircraft.
