The Mortal Kombat 2 trailer offers footage of Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, a character who was introduced in the original Mortal Kombat game from 1992. Other new cast additions include Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Tati Gabrielle as Jade, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, Desmond Chiam as King Jerrod, Ana Thu Nguyen as Queen Sindel, and CJ Bloomfield as Baraka. McQuoid, whose feature film directorial debut was the first Mortal Kombat, is returning to helm the sequel. Writer Jeremy Slater recently told ComicBook that Mortal Kombat II has been done 'for a while' and that they had been 'waiting for the right release date and waiting for the right window.' He added, 'I have been to those test screenings, which are full of Mortal Kombat fans, and watching them react to it the way I reacted to Avengers: Endgame. They were cheering and jumping out of their seats. Every joke is landing, and they are loving it. It's one of the greatest moments of my life. That's why you get into this business.' Mortal Kombat II will be released in United States theaters on October 24, 2025, from Warner Bros. Pictures. Solve the daily Crossword

2025 Emmy Predictions: Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series

We will update this article throughout the season, along with all our predictions, so make sure to keep checking IndieWire for the latest news from the 2025 Emmys race. The nomination round of voting takes place from June 12 to June 23, with the official Emmy nominations announced Tuesday, July 15. Afterwards, final voting commences on August 18 and ends the night of August 27. The 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, September 14, and air live on CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 5:00 p.m. PT. The State of the Race Though we stand by our opinion that the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series Emmy category should expand to a permanent eight nominations like its Comedy and Drama counterparts, it would be tough for voters to count eight or more limited or anthology series they actually watched this season. More from IndieWire 'The Bear' Review: Season 4 Is Another Sweet, Stirring, and Inconsistent Dish Amazon Prime Video to Other Streamers: You Need Us Netflix, which has won this category two years running, has fared the best, with 'Adolescence' cracking the list of its top 10 most watched original TV series of all time. It premiering at the beginning of spring, much like Emmy winners 'Beef' and 'Baby Reindeer' before it, indicates that its streaming service has cannily figured out the best current recipe for making a Limited Series Emmy frontrunner. This comes much to the chagrin of TV mogul Ryan Murphy, who did produce another major hit for Netflix with 'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,' one that became so popular it got its subjects another court date to possibly be paroled. However, like its predecessor 'Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,' it premiered too early to maintain the momentum needed to win the category. Same thing goes for 'The Penguin,' which premiered early last fall. Prior to 'Adolescence,' the TV spin-off of 'The Batman' was a shoo-in for the Emmy, having become a huge win for HBO both critically and commercially. It won several winter TV awards including a Golden Globe and two Critics Choice Awards for its leads Colin Farrell and Cristin Milioti. But nominations voting for the Emmy Awards does not start until mid-June. Ultimately, the DC Studios TV project should do very well nominations-wise, but is facing an uphill battle against the four episode, big word-of-mouth hit that is easier to catch up on, 'Adolescence.' Though Netflix had a late-in-the-game hit with 'Sirens,' the most likely contenders for the final two nomination slots come from FX and Apple TV+. The strongest option comes from the former, as 'Dying for Sex' is a really strong vehicle for Michelle Williams, who is campaigning in the one key acting category 'Adolescence' did not submit for. It also stands out for having shorter episodes, and being funnier than the rest of the pack, even though it is about a woman dying of cancer. FX also has what would be the big prestige choice, Peabody Award winner 'Say Nothing,' an adaptation of the 2018 book of the same name by Patrick Radden Keefe that has largely been received as a new classic. That it won a USC Scripter Award earlier this year, ending what had been a two year winning streak for 'Slow Horses,' indicates that the show had a bigger awards-voting audience than people anticipate. However, the biggest hit of both the FX shows and Apple TV+ shows, was the newest version of 'Presumed Innocent' from prolific showrunner David E. Kelley. The series was a big hit last summer, but that is a lot of time to stay top of mind for voters, especially when its leads Jake Gyllenhaal and Ruth Negga have not been too present to campaign for the show. Same goes for the other Apple TV+ contender 'Disclaimer,' which is led by Oscar-winning filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón and Oscar-winning actors Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline. Apple TV+ also has 'Dope Thief,' which premiered more recently, but is much more of a player in the acting categories than for the series category. Predicted Nominees:'Adolescence' (Netflix)'Dying for Sex' (FX)'Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story' (Netflix)'The Penguin' (HBO)'Say Nothing' (FX) Contenders:'Black Mirror' (Netflix)'Disclaimer' (Apple TV+)'Presumed Innocent' (Apple TV+) In a Perfect World:'Clipped' (Hulu)'Get Millie Black' (HBO)'Three Women' (Starz) More Limited Series and TV Movie Category Predictions:Outstanding TV MovieOutstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or a MovieOutstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a MovieOutstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or a MovieOutstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie View IndieWire's full set of predictions for the 77th Emmy Awards. Last Year's Winner: 'Baby Reindeer'Still Eligible: Streak: The past decade has seen Netflix, HBO, and FX trade off Emmy wins as the category went through a couple of name changes. 2025 Emmys Predictions: Outstanding Comedy Series

We will update this article throughout the season, along with all our predictions, so make sure to keep checking IndieWire for the latest news from the 2025 Emmys race. The nomination round of voting takes place from June 12 to June 23, with the official Emmy nominations announced Tuesday, July 15. The 77th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards are set to take place on Sunday, September 14, and air live on CBS at 8:00 p.m. ET/ 5:00 p.m. PT. The State of the Race The Outstanding Comedy Series nominations have been the most consistent among the main series categories, so it feels really easy to say that 'Abbott Elementary,' 'The Bear,' 'Hacks,' and 'Only Murders in the Building' are all set for their third or fourth nominations in the category. 'What We Do in the Shadows' also feels like a safe prediction, even though it was not nominated every season it was on, because it made the cut last year, and is in its last eligible year. More from IndieWire Everything to Remember from 'Squid Game' Season 1 and 2 'Matlock' Production Designer Adam Rowe on How Two Canceled Shows Gave the CBS Hit Its Scale In terms of new contenders, Netflix has uncharacteristically entered this season with the most comedies, which could be seen as a good thing or a bad thing for the streaming service. The consensus is that romantic comedy 'Nobody Wants This' is a shoo-in for a nomination, as it has had a long runway of campaigning that includes some winter TV award wins, but it has been harder to parse whether voters preferred 'The Four Season' over 'The Residence,' or 'A Man on the Inside' over 'Running Point.' All the shows have run strong campaigns, to the point where an Emmy voter would have a different answer on which ones they're voting for any given day. Apple TV+ has been more succinct. 'The Studio' is its big new comedy, and although people have questions about who the show is for outside of people who work in Hollywood, the Emmys are importantly voted on by people who work in Hollywood. 'Shrinking' also stands out as a strong candidate for a nomination, even though it did not receive one for Season 1, because it is one of the series that has leaned heavily into being shot in Los Angeles, even having voters come visit the set as part of its official For Your Consideration event. The devastating wildfires in January have really put that element into focus, as the influential Television Academy members that are going to all these shows' FYC events are largely LA-based creatives that want to keep more work inside the city. Surprisingly, the big wild cards in the comedy race are HBO series. While 'Hacks' has helped the develop the identity of HBO Max as this hub for broader shows with an edge that comes from not having to worry about standards and practices as much, HBO proper has seen its comedies get darker and weirder in the past couple years. Ultimately, that has led to continued critical success, but on the Emmys front, voters have not been as welcoming to 'The Righteous Gemstones' or 'The Rehearsal,' which is a shame, because they are two contenders that have made their audiences laugh the hardest. With this being the last season for 'The Righteous Gemstones,' and 'The Rehearsal' becoming a bigger hit that does not have to deal with comparisons to 'Jury Duty' this time around, there is a glimmer of hope that the Emmys will embrace both shows this year, or the small but adored 'Somebody Somewhere.' After all, this is the network that absolutely dominated this category with 'Veep' less than a decade ago. Predicted Nominees:'Abbott Elementary' (ABC)'The Bear' (FX)'Hacks' (HBO Max)'Nobody Wants This' (Netflix)'Only Murders in the Building' (Hulu)'Shrinking' (Apple TV+)'The Studio' (Apple TV+)'What We Do in the Shadows' (FX) Contenders:'Agatha All Along' (Disney+)'The Four Seasons' (Netflix)'The Rehearsal' (HBO)In a Perfect World:'Colin from Accounts' (Paramount+)'Ghosts' (CBS)'Overcompensating' (Prime Video) More Comedy Category Predictions:Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy SeriesOutstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy SeriesOutstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy SeriesOutstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series View IndieWire's full set of predictions for the 77th Emmy Awards.
