Ministers tried to downplay incident, say oppn leaders
The irresponsible behaviour of ministers led to D Bindu's death, said opposition leader V D Satheesan at Thalayolaparambu on Friday.
Satheesan said the ministers' remarks that the building was closed and no one was inside hindered the rescue operation.
"Normally, if a hospital building collapses, govt should provide adequate compensation. But in this case, since the rescue operation was hampered by the ministers, govt has more responsibility," he said.
He demanded that govt provide compensation of not less than Rs 25 lakh to the family of Bindu, who was killed in the building collapse, and to undertake her daughter's treatment and offer a job to a family member.
Satheeshan said health minister Veena George was incapable of continuing in the position as medical colleges and other hospitals in govt sector were facing shortages of medicines and other materials for treatments.
KPCC president Sunny Joseph, who visited the MCH and Bindu's house on Friday, termed her death as a "murder" alleging attempts by ministers George and V N Vasavan to downplay the incident. He said the ministers' eagerness to justify themselves following the incident resulted in the loss of life.

Muslim Youth League activists took out a march from Vadakke Bus Stand area to the DMO office in Thrissur. Police erected barricades but the protesters tried to push the barricades and proceed to the DMO office, led to tense moments. Police then used water cannons to disperse the protesters.
