Former Turner and Time Warner exec John Martin takes over as Professional Fighters League's CEO
Martin will oversee all aspects of PFL's strategy, management, operations, finances and personnel in his new role. He takes over for Peter Murray, who now becomes CEO of PFL International and reports directly to Martin.

'My two greatest passions are leading media companies and MMA, so stepping into the position of PFL CEO is truly a dream role for me,' Martin said Thursday in a statement announcing his appointment.
Martin served as chairman and CEO of Turner LLC from 2014-18. He was chief financial officer at Time Warner Inc. before that. He earlier served as CFO of Time Warner Cable, where he was an early advocate for expanding UFC's cable distribution.
He began training in martial arts in his mid-20s and eventually earned a black belt in karate and a blue belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Byron Buxton had his bobblehead day on Saturday — and decided to celebrate by putting on a show. The Minnesota Twins center fielder hit for the cycle in the Twins' 12-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates, putting up a dominant performance in front of an appreciative home crowd. An RBI double from Buxton in the third inning sent Ty France home and brought the Twins' lead to 7-0. In all, the center fielder ended the night with five hits in five at-bats, with two RBIs and three runs. Buxton's cycle marks the second time this season that someone has hit for the cycle this season: Chicago Cubs catcher Carson Kelly achieved the feat in March against the Athletics. It's a somewhat rare achievement in baseball, with less than 30 active players who have hit for the cycle in their careers. Buxton's huge day anchored a strong performance from the Twins, who dominated the Pirates from the start. In addition to Buxton, second baseman Kody Clemens, designated hitter Matt Wallner and left fielder Willi Castro all hit home runs; Castro's homer came immeditately after Buxton's cycle-clinching one. MINNEAPOLIS — All-Star center fielder Byron Buxton hit for the cycle on his bobblehead day, completing it with a solo home run in the seventh inning, and the Minnesota Twins routed the Pittsburgh Pirates 12-4 on Saturday. Buxton hit a single in the first inning, a triple in the second and a double in the third. He singled again in the fifth before stepping to the plate in the seventh for one more chance at the first cycle ever at Target Field, which opened in 2010.

From one 14 to another, White Sox great Konerko gets gift from Pope Leo XIV in honor of 2005 title
CHICAGO — White Sox great Paul Konerko got a present from one No. 14 to another in honor of the 20th anniversary of the 2005 World Series championship run — a jersey signed by noted Chicago fan Pope Leo XIV . Cardinal Blase Cupich, the archbishop of Chicago, presented Konerko a jersey with the new pontiff's signature on the back during a ceremony prior to the game against the Cleveland Guardians. It had the six-time All-Star's last name and 'Pope Leo' above the No. 14. Robert Prevost became the first pope from the U.S. in the history of the Catholic Church when he was elected on May 8. The Chicago-born missionary, who took the name Leo XIV, is a White Sox fan. Prevost attended the 2005 World Series opener against Houston in Chicago. He watched from Section 140, Row 19, Seat 2 as the White Sox beat the Astros 5-3 on the way to a four-game sweep and their first title since 1917. In May, the team unveiled a graphic installation near the seat paying tribute to Pope Leo and that moment. The pillar artwork features a waving Pope Leo XIV, along with a picture from the TV broadcast of the future pope sitting with good friend Ed Schmit and his grandson, Eddie. Members of the 2005 team are in Chicago this weekend to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the championship run. The White Sox debuted uniform patches honoring late closer Bobby Jenks, who died last week in Portugal, where he was being treated for stomach cancer.
