Lena Dunham Credits Taylor Swift for Connecting Her With Rom-Com Icon Meg Ryan: ‘She Brings Everyone Together'
In a Variety cover story published this week, the Girls creator opened up about securing the Sleepless in Seattle actress for Good Sex, Dunham's upcoming Netflix film about a couple's therapist played by Natalie Portman who re-enters the dating scene after getting out of a decadelong relationship. Ryan will co-star in the film alongside Mark Ruffalo and Tucker Pillsbury, aka alt-pop musician Role Model.

According to Dunham, she sold the When Harry Met Sally star on the project after running into her at a 2024 Eras stop in London. 'I decided, it's now or never, and I'm going to shoot my shot,' the screenwriter told the publication. 'She couldn't be a lovelier person.'
'Shout-out Taylor — thank you for that,' Dunham added. 'She brings everyone together; she makes the world go 'round.'
Dunham and the pop star have long been close friends. The former co-starred in Swift's 2015 'Bad Blood' music video, and in 2021, Swift was a bridesmaid in Dunham's wedding to musician Luis Felber.
In an interview with The New Yorker last year, Dunham — who also caught Eras Tour shows in Boston and Pittsburgh — opened up about feeling 'protective' of her famous friend. 'Probably the two things I get asked most in life are 'What is Taylor like?' and 'Can I have tickets to the Eras Tour?' And usually my answer to both things is no, but I will say that she's everything that you would want her to be,' she said at the time.
'She's kind, she's devoted, she's introspective, she's emotional, she's funny as f—,' she added at the time 'I guess my feeling sometimes is, 'Isn't she giving us enough, guys?''

On Friday, Aug. 1, reports circulated that The Holiday, which starred Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Jack Black, is being revisited, this time as a limited series. Per Deadline, Apple TV+ will adapt the film's same concept — an ambitious American woman (Diaz) house swaps with a heartbroken British woman (Winslet) and both of them fall in love in the most unexpected way — with new characters and stars. Rob Delaney is on board the project as writer, and Sweetpea's Krissie Ducker will executive produce, the outlet reported. Apple TV+ did not respond to PEOPLE's request for comment about the report. The news came as a shock to Meyers, who spoke out about the report in a post on her Instagram Stories. "News to me," Meyers wrote over a screenshot of a Hollywood Reporter article about the limited series adaptation. "Imagine my surprise when I opened Instagram and this was the first post I saw." This is not the first time that Meyers has weighed in on reports of the beloved 2006 film being revisited. In 2022, the director shut down sequel rumors swiftly on Instagram, as she wrote in a comment on a post reporting that a sequel was getting made with the original main cast all returning: "So many DM's about this — sorry but it's not true. ❤️." Shortly afterwards, Winslet herself weighed in on the speculation. "I read something about that, but it's the first I've heard of it," she told PEOPLE. "I promise you, not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that's never come up." The original cast will not reprise their roles in the limited series, per the report, despite several stars having expressed interest in returning to the world. Law, who played the brother of Winslet's Iris and love interest of Diaz's Amanda, has been particularly vocal about his desire to revisit the magic of The Holiday. Last year, Law, 52, said, "Why not?" when asked about the possibility of a sequel. "I love the idea," he told E! News. He even offered up some ideas on where he thinks his character would be today. "I think Graham still has cardigans and glasses, and reads," he said. "He's probably worried sick about the girls, right? [His] daughters will be 28, 29." Law admitted, though, that he'd "have to ask" Meyers to get the real answer on a sequel. Despite not having any plans to revisit the world, Meyers has been known to tease fans of the movie. She and Law reunited for lunch in December, and she posted a video on Instagram from the reunion."Look who I'm having lunch with today. Jude Law! Congratulations on your so well-deserved star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. That's amazing," she told the actor in the video. "I don't think I've seen you since we wrapped The Holiday," Meyers admitted, before she brought up the sequel rumors. "Speaking of which, I've seen you interviewed a lot, and they keep asking you if there's going to be a sequel. What do you think?" In response, Law made a hilariously adorable reference to his Mr. Napkin Head character from the film. It was obvious that his bit delighted Meyers, but it didn't offer fans any real answer to the question of a sequel. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day' Is Bringing Back Hulk and Scorpion

'And Just Like That ...' to end after third season
And just like that, a universe of fun, friendship and fashion is coming to an end. Michael Patrick King, showrunner of the 'Sex and the City' sequel 'And Just Like That ...,' announced on Instagram that the series will end after the third season concludes. Fans have a two-part finale to savor later this month. 'It's with great gratitude we thank all the viewers who have let these characters into their homes and their hearts over these many years,' he wrote. King said he decided to wrap things up while writing the season's final episode. He then split the finale into two episodes. The last episode will drop Aug. 14. In a long, heartfelt Instagram post of her own, Sarah Jessica Parker, who played the iconic Carrie Bradshaw character in both series, called the sequel 'all joy, adventure, the greatest kind of hard work alongside the most extraordinary talent.' She included a montage of Carrie's fashion and moments. Parker added: 'I am better for every single day I spent with you. It will be forever before I forget. The whole thing. Thank you all. I love you so.' Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon returned for the sequel. Largely absent was Kim Cattrall and her Samantha Jones, though Cattrall did make a brief, uncredited cameo in the Season 2 finale. Samantha's absence was explained as a move to London. Reports of pay and personal disputes bubbled over behind the scenes. The original series ran from 1998 to 2004, taking pop culture by storm with the style and drama of the 30-something friends in New York City. They shopped. They brunched. They dated, leaning on each other as Parker's Carrie, a writer, chronicled it all. The sequel picks up their lives in their mid-50s, to mixed reviews. Carrie became a widow. Nixon's Miranda Hobbes came out as queer. Davis' Charlotte York Goldenblatt copes with husband Harry's prostate cancer diagnosis. Fashion remains ever-present, including all those iconic heels still clacking through New York's brownstone-lined streets. In her farewell post, Parker wrote of her stylish Carrie that she, 'Changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City.' She called Carrie 'my professional heartbeat for 27 years.'
