A large cache of arms, ammunition, and other warlike materials has been recovered. Security forces recovered 155 weapons, 1652 ammunition besides four binoculars, 15 communication sets and a telescope.

The intelligence-based operations by joint teams comprising police, Central Armed Police Forces,
Assam Rifles
and the army led to the recovery of eight AK series rifles, two INSAS rifles, four carbines, one SLR, eight 9mm pistols, fourteen 12 bore guns, 21 single bore guns, 14 country-made pistols and other rifles, police said.
According to police, 31 pompi (locally made mortars), 39 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 13 hand grenades, and over 1,600 rounds of ammunition were also seized.

"These continued intelligence-led operations in the hill districts represent a major accomplishment for Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, army and other security forces in their continued mission to restore peace, uphold public order and safeguard the lives and properties of citizens," police added.
Recently the security forces in joint operation have recovered 90 arms and around 728 different types of ammunition in restive Manipur.
Of the 90 arms recovered, five are INSAS rifles, four are Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs), followed by three AK series rifles, seven 303 rifles, 20 pistols, four carbines, eight rifles, 20 SBBL and Bore Action rifles, three anti-riot guns, and remaining different types of weapons.
The recovered ammunition includes 21 grenades, explosives, mortar shells, tube launching, and Improvised Explosive Devices.
Forty-one assorted magazines and six wireless handsets were also recovered during the operations.According to the police official, 21 assorted magazines and 24 wireless handsets were also recovered along with the arms and ammunition.
On July 15, the security forces in joint operation recovered 86 arms and around 974 different types of ammunition from Manipur's five Imphal valley districts -- Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching.
On July 4, the security forces in joint operations recovered 203 arms, mostly sophisticated and around 160 different types of ammunition from four hill districts -- Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel, and Churachandpur.
Earlier on June 14, security forces in joint operations recovered 328 arms and around 9,300 different types of ammunition from five Imphal Valley districts -- Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching.

Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday declared it will intensify agitation against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab govt's 'Land Pooling Policy'. The party announced plans to hold at least four major protests, one each in Bathinda, Patiala, Ferozepur, and Moga in August. The decision was made after a core committee meeting of the party on Tuesday. Following the meeting, senior SAD leader and party spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema stated that the party would protest against the "land grabbing scheme" in Bathinda on Aug 4, in Patiala on Aug 11, in Ferozepur on Aug 21, and in Moga on Aug 30. HC lifts stay on civil prison order against builder, initiates contempt proceedings
Ahmedabad: The Gujarat high court has lifted the stay on an order by the Gujarat Real Estate Regulatory Authority (GujRERA) to detain office bearers of Pacifica Developers Pvt Ltd, including its managing director Rakesh Israni, in a 60-day civil prison. The developers were penalised for failing to hand over possession of a house to a customer and allegedly selling the same property to a third party. In addition to clearing the way for execution of the civil prison order, Justice Vaibhavi Nanavati last week referred the case to a division bench for the initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Israni, the company, and other office bearers—Darpan Tarwani, Kaushik Patel, and Jay Chandani—for making false statements before the court. "The conduct of the original petitioners in SCA No. 20527 of 2022 is contemptuous and requires action. This court deems it fit to refer the original petitioners to the bench handling contempt matters," the order reads. The court accepted the proposal and stayed the GujRERA order of civil detention. Later, Sharma's advocate, Vishal Dave, informed the court that the developers had approached the high court again and sought to withdraw their petition, stating they would instead file an appeal before the RERA appellate tribunal. The court allowed this and continued the stay on the civil detention order. However, in 2024, Sharma approached the court again, stating that the developers had never filed an appeal before the appellate tribunal and had continued to enjoy the stay order wrongfully. Justice Nanavati observed, "The aforesaid in the opinion of this court, is nothing but abuse of process of law and the said act is contemptuous in nature and in the opinion of this court, the original petitioners (builders) are jointly and severally liable for the same." While referring the matter to a division bench for contempt proceedings, the high court also ordered the release of the Rs 24 lakh deposit to Sharma.

Made-up identities: How Bangladeshi immigrants used disguises, fake documents to evade detection
New Delhi: Over 2,100 Bangladeshi nationals living in the capital were deported in 2024-25, mostly this year, with the highest number, 370, deported from Outer Delhi district. It was followed closely by North West Delhi, from where 226 Bangladeshi nationals were sent back, according to data released by Delhi Police on Tuesday. Police discovered that Bangladeshi immigrants were using various tactics to evade detection in India, including disguising themselves as transgender individuals and living on the streets, with some even undergoing gender-affirming surgery to alter their physical appearance. The cops cited the examples of Mohammad Raisul Islam, 27, and Mohammad Ebrahim Howlader, 26, two transgender individuals. They were apprehended on July 23 from beneath the Bhalswa Dairy flyover in North West Delhi. Both individuals admitted to their original nationality as Bangladeshi. The two claimed to have undergone gender-affirming surgery to alter their physical appearance to resemble women. "They used heavy makeup, wore sarees or salwar suits, used artificial hair (wigs) and adorned themselves with feminine accessories," an officer revealed. Police said during questioning, they admitted to adopting these disguises and even undergoing minor surgeries and hormonal treatments to alter their sex and appearance in an attempt to evade detection. The inquiry revealed that these calculated efforts appeared to be aimed at blending into densely populated areas and leveraging social sensitivities towards women and transgender persons, thereby complicating routine identification and verification by enforcement agencies. Many of the illegal immigrants were found working in brick kilns in remote areas using fake Aadhaar cards, often procured with the help of traffickers, to find jobs. Some immigrants were also found to have purchased properties in West Bengal using fake IDs to establish local residency. On June 4, 18 Bangladeshi nationals were nabbed in North West Delhi's Bharat Nagar. These families began by working as labourers in brick-making factories in Haryana before shifting to slum clusters in the city. To manage the illegal immigrants, temporary detention centres have been set up in community halls, while two permanent facilities operate in Lampur (Outer Delhi) and Sarai Rohilla (North West Delhi). These centres provide basic amenities such as food, water, and shelter, and can accommodate 50 to 60 individuals. Some of the temporary centres are located in Roop Nagar (North Delhi), Samaypur Badli (Outer Delhi) and Vijay Vihar (Northwest Delhi). Additional centres are situated in Bhadola village (North West Delhi) and Seelampur (Shahdara). A police officer said the creation of temporary detention centres depended on the number of illegal immigrants detained at any given time. The authorities identify suitable locations that can be quickly converted into shelters to hold illegal immigrants. Police said multiple teams work on tracing and verifying the migrants. "One team detains the individuals, while another visits the states they claim as their residence to verify if they actually live there," an officer revealed. "After verification, if they are found to be illegal immigrants, they are handed over to the Foreigners' Regional Registration Office, which places them in detention centres." On deportation, they are sent by train to certain place from where they are escorted across the border by security forces. Sometimes, they are also sent via flights. According to police, local traffickers from Bangladesh, with the help of Indian contacts, send immigrants to India. The migrants often travel by train to Delhi, where local contacts assist them in obtaining Aadhaar and PAN cards — often by using their original Bangladeshi IDs. Others help them find employment as labourers, ragpickers and low-wage workers.
