Spartans associate head coach Doug Wojcik not leaving for alma mater Navy head coach job

Spartans associate head coach Doug Wojcik not leaving for alma mater Navy head coach job Doug Wojcik was widely considered a candidate for the Navy head coaching job but he will reportedly not be leaving Michigan State for his alma mater
It appears Michigan State basketball will be retaining one of its top assistant coaches.
Navy is reportedly going to promote its Associate Head Coach Jon Perry to the permanent head coach role, according to CBS Sports analyst Jon Rothstein. This is notable news for Michigan State because Spartans associate head coach Doug Wojcik was widely considered one of the leading candidates for the Midshipmen head coaching gig.
Wojcik played for Navy in the 80's where he was a team captain experienced a ton of success on the court. He was also an assistant coach for the Midshipmen in the 90's. So when the role became open last month, he was a clear cut favorite for the position.
Wojcik was named the Big Ten's Howard Moore Assistant Coach of the Year this season for his part in helping the Spartans to another Big Ten championship. So this is big news for the Spartans should it result in him returning for another season at Michigan State next year. He, of course, could land another job elsewhere but this was a spot to monitor and it appears he will not be taking that job.

MSU OC Brian Lindgren talks about WR Nick Marsh's versatility, 'smart' football knowledge

Michigan State wide receiver Nick Marsh had an impressive true freshman season last year, and it sounds like the Spartans have big plans for him this upcoming season as well. The Spartans opened up fall preseason camp earlier this week, and on Thursday, Michigan State offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren met with the media to talk more about the team. One of the notable things Lindgren said during his media availability was the plan to use Marsh in a number of different roles this season. Per a post from Emmett Matasovsky on social media platform X, Lindgren said Marsh has the ability and is open to moving around to the different wide receiver positions on the field. He also noted that he "likes being around" Marsh and considers him a "smart player." Check out the full quote on Marsh from Lindgren in the post below: During his freshman season, Marsh recorded 41 receptions for 649 yards and three touchdowns. He was the Spartans' top receiver and is expected to take on that same role this upcoming year. Michigan State kicks off the 2025 season on August 29 against Western Michigan at Spartan Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on FS1. Michigan State football offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren updates RB camp battle

Brian Lindgren: 'Too early to tell' if there will be a bell-cow RB or RB by committee. He wants to wait for too early to tell, and says there has been rotation for all Frazier and Tullis as guys who are further along. Michigan State football has opened training camp for what is the second season during the Jonathan Smith era in East Lansing. After an underwhelming year in 2024, the Spartans are looking to turn the tides in 2025. A big part of the Spartans success in 2025 will be the continued development of the roster, and the team hitting on several players among the 23 transfers brought in during the offseason. As camp moves along the Spartans coaching staff is going to have to parse their way through several different position battles at key positions in the lineup. One of those position battles is for the starting running back position, where the Spartans have around four different players vying for snaps and touches out of the backfield. On Thursday, after practice, offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren spoke to the media about his offense and specifically touched on the position battle at the position. According to Lindgren, it is too early to know whether or not one guy is propelling themselves ahead to be a bell-co back, or if the group will handle it by committee. The Spartans OC says more will be known after the scrimmages, but noted Makhi Frazier and Brandon Tullis are further ahead. It will be interesting to see how this particular battle plays itself out throughout camp. MSU football's marquee non-conference opponent picked to finish near bottom of league

THE 2025 ACC PRESEASON POLL 🏈🚨Thoughts? 🤔 One of the Spartans' marquee non-conference opponents has been pegged by the media to finish near the bottom of their league. Michigan State will play host to Boston College of the ACC in a nationally televised night game on September 6. This is a critical early season game for the Spartans as a win could catapult them into a fast start to the season, while a loss could suggest another losing season is on the way. Good news for the Spartans, though, is that the ACC media isn't particularly high on the Eagles. In the recently released ACC preseason media poll, Boston College landed as the No. 13 team out of 17 league members. That isn't all to different from the Spartans' preseason landing spot of No. 13 out of 18 teams in the Big Ten media poll, but at least is telling that Boston College should be a very beatable opponent for the Spartans this fall. Michigan State let one slip away at Boston College last fall, and will get the return trip from the Eagles this year. That week two matchup is slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NBC.
